I really hope you get to hear his live (pre-recorded, but with a audience it sounds) performance at iheart radio. He did a 15 minute album release performing Seven, 3D an interview and ending with a BANG with Standing Next To You singing and hitting the notes even better than the recording and with a live band. You'd love it the Standing Next To You.

I don’t really enjoy pop but I enjoyed his album. I know ppl think it’s basic but this is literally the style of music he listens to so it’s exactly what I was expecting from him. I would like to hear rnb from him tho bc he has a great soulful voice imo. Also the songs may be basic but the effort he put into it definitely wasn’t. This non English speaking man just dropped a full English album so that’s a insane feat to me. We know jk knows how to write, produce, and be artistic. I think he just wanted to sing songs he liked and thus came golden. My favorites are definitely snty, hate you, and sgot

It’s his first album… made completely in a language that is not his native language lol the amount of vocal variations , sounds and techniques used on top of that was so much fun and super proud of him for tackling doing a full album in English. Think ppl really under appreciating that aspect of what he has done here. Pop loving jungkook who grew up listening to songs like a lot of these and it was his dream to make an album like this and it’s dripping with consistency from jungkook if you really know him…. I’m just so proud of him for doing what he wanted to do wether anybody else liked it or not 😂 he doesn’t care…. He’s going to stay true to himself and follow the compass that’s led him this far… it’s his first try at putting out an album… and honestly it’s a ten for me! Can’t wait to see what comes in the future !!!

I found “Closer to You” felt a bit like Faithless for me, which I like. “Standing Next to You” is astonishing - vocals are immaculate and I love the musical theatre vibe. I like that he’s playing with different vocal styles and colours. I like it more than I expected to (since pop is not my favourite, Indigo is more my speed) so there’s that!

Idk what he needs to do more to be more appreciated, he can sing any genre his vocals have improved a lot and is showing because he is killing it. His fav genre is pop and there's nothing wrong with it, he slayed with this album and honestly seeing other kpop songs you react to before, I can't understand how the scores are so low in some of these songs😅 but well I suppose everyone has different tastes... Anyway, appreciate your reaction👏🏻

I agree, that's why I praised his vocals so much lol. Pop is a WIDE genre and changes with the times. From Doja Cat, Dua Lipa to Justin Bieber, Khalid, Harry Styles and Bruno Mars, Jungkook deserves better than production that's uninspired and could be from 2016. This doesn't include "Standing next to you" & "Seven" which felt more current for me.

No one said anything bad about his vocals he devoured every song but a song having great vocals does not equal to it being good lol. Jk has huge potential and some of the songs were not enough to showcase that. And I love pop too but just bc sth is pop it doesn’t have to be basic or commercial.

I completely agree that JK has the vocal talent and is CAPABLE of doing R&B/Confessions era Usher! Knowing Scooter Braun had a hand in this album, the attempt at branding Jungkook and Golden as though he's 2015, Purpose Justin Bieber, puts him in that safe pop box, which is fine, but not necessarily the direction I personally was hoping for. Really enjoyed this commentary👌🏽🤍

Love the honest reaction. He has so many tools in his arsenal (vocally and stylistically) and I can't wait to see what he'll do in the future. He even said himself that he wants to try just about every genre in his solo work, but that he's starting with global pop, so hopefully we'll get more of the RnB soon. I did love the more ballad-y songs though, like "Hate You" and "Shot Glass of Tears", because it reminded me so much of young Jungkook who used to cover Maroon 5 and Justin Beiber and all. Hopefully you enjoyed those too, but yeah, thanks for the reaction!

He's experimenting he said about singing in English was difficult to get the Pronunciation right. He's doing what he like's trying things which is what this period for the members is all about doing what they like and trying new things exploring, meeting other people making contacts etc. They are having fun which I don't blame them before they enter the military. They've all been saying how much they'll have to add to the pot from what they've learnt when they return in 2025. Oh they only recently announced that they've already signed their 3rd contract that starts when they all come out in 2025. I'm glad they are having fun while doing what they want, how they want to and learning knew things, trying things out learning about promoting, designing their own album working on their own, choosing who to work with it's exciting and it just add's to their individual growth as artist and veterans of the industry seeing all the different sides of it as Business men.

I appreciated your perspective. I personally really love the album. One thing i think people should keep in mind tho is that this project happened in a short period of time. I feel if he was given more time then it couldve been even better. It went from a mini album to a full album and he said he recorded 4 songs in 1 week. The title track was recorded on the spot in 4 hours. So with Golden being the beginning of his solo career it makes me excited to see what else he can bring to the table

Thank you for your honest reaction !! Love it !! He did so good with this album internationally and on the charts and it's just his beginning. I definitely think that this wasn't his peak as a solo artist, he's only 25/26, he's still young and i think he's just having fun experiencing his own Pop Star moment, something he always dreamed about. I think this album will help him grow as an artist in the future. I can see him doing RnB and songs that are more soulful for his next project when he comes back. Or something between rock and rnb, because i feel like we haven't really heard something like that from him before and i just know he would EAT that UP. To be honest, i'm glad he went with pop this time, because i keep wanting to hear more from him because I KNOOOW he can do it 100 times better, even tho this was soo good too. I think his next comeback will be wayy bigger than this one, more people will definitely be tuned in !! He brought lot of new fans in the world of kpop too. And when he does his next comeback i think he'll have more time to prepare and promote it properly, perform on award shows etc. I think he learned a lot from this album and we can see the change and there will be more growth here !!

my whole thing is i dont care who dont like it or who does. my issue is when people remove jungkooks choice/agency from his solo debut/album making when if he didnt like something it wouldnt see the light of day. everyone can hate the songs call them basic etc etc but at least understand that jk isnt a puppet and scooter had no impact on this album. jk has been covering all these basic pop stars and loves their music since debut. even in 2013 he said he wants to be like JB so this shouldnt surprise anyone that he made this type of project even if we dont like it. im tired of kpop stans treating grown men like children who have no say when bts tell us time and time again they have COMPLETE creative control. they would not sign a 3rd contract with a label if the label restricted them in any way especially creatively. this is just what jungkook wanted to do. im tired of people using "he has no say" as a excuse just straight up say you dont like it and move on. thank you for your honesty i wish the people pushing the scooter narrative would also be honest like you cause they using that as a cop out to give some reason to validate why they dont like it when they can just accept they didnt like jungkooks choice this time.

JK is a western pop-star trapped in a Korean man’s body. He has studied western pop and mastered it. He’s always expressed this desire to play with Pop R&B (he’s good with R&B but he also loves Pop) and sexual expression through the lens of a Western style (he was even trained in Western dance). He mixed his Korean influences(BIGBANG’s G-Dragon, Rain, etc.) with his western (MJ, Justin Bieber, Usher, Chris Brown). He’s the Golden child of HYBE (vocal, dance and his underrated rap) and he showed out. Yes his solo is far more extravagant than his other members but this is his unique lane.

On Suga's show Suchwita, Jungkook even said himself that he felt like he could have done better, if he had more time. Since he (and the remaining members) are is going into the military by the end of this year or beginning of next year., there was a lot of pressure on him to finish this project. He said he recorded all these songs very fast, and this song in particular Standing Next to You was handed to him the day after he recorded Seven. Then recorded it right away. I feel like that was a trend with most of the songs on this album. I agree with you about 3D though, something about it was just quite anticlimactic but not in a good way. Besides Seven and Standing Next to You, my favorite B-side is Shot Glass of Tears. It's so catchy. Yes and No, and Hate You are pretty good songs too but the rest aren't very memorable in my opinion. I was excited to learn Major Lazer and DJ Snake were on this album but I was a bit disappointed. I was thinking of the song by Justin Beiber and Shrillex- Where Are U Now. I was expecting something like that, a big DJ beat drop, and vibes throughout. I still love Jungkook so much, his vocals, dancing, and performance is incredible.

Always enjoy your insight! I like the album but did it floor me? No. Will I go to his concert if he goes on tour? Yes, and I’ll have a good time 😂 I want more songs like ‘My Time’ in future projects.

God yes thank you so much for being fair and REAL about it !! I'm tbh really disappointed with his album like he has an amazing voice his vocals are so good and he can sing but I feel like the album took away that shine and uniqueness of his.. it also felt all over the place "??" and don't get me started with the production cuz damn they could've done way better but oh well :/

I’m glad the title track is strong in its own way so there’s hope for a more solid mini album in the future. I do want him to keep this kinda style cos it does feel different.

I think the album suits him quite well.Pop has always been his favorite genre and while listening to the songs of the album I felt that he was trying to recreate the mood that some of the most famous pop singers had.Like,3d reminded me a lot of backstreet boys, standing close to you had a strong Michael Jackson flavour to it,yes or no reminded me first of Jesse McCartney in some verses and then I clearly heard Ed Sheeran hand in it.Hate you sounded exactly like a Shawn Mendes song, the words chosen and even the tone of the voice he used.Same thing with Too sad to dance,it sounded like it could be sung by Justin Bieber.Anyway, all big pop hot shots. And knowing he grew up listening to them it makes sense to me that these types of songs ended up on the album, especially cause he handpicked them himself.I'm not a fan of all the songs but I can appreciate the coherence. It's his first album and in his interview with Yoongi he said that he had little time to choose the songs and record them and he still has time to improve and experiment with other genres so I'm not going to be too hard on him.He just put himself and what he likes out there and it's quite fine for his first solo work.I'm really REALLY proud if him

Just want you to know that as a hardcore army, I appreciate your opinions! Personally love seven and standing next to you both, definitely understand the meh-ness about 3D (although will admit i still like it lol). One thing I know we both agree on is Jungkook can sing!! Very proud of him for recording an album in his non-english language. Can't have been easy. Always enjoy your honest reaction! :)

I agree with you!! I think Jungkook played it very safe. My faves were Standing Next To You and Seven just because of how smooth and catchy they were. Unfortunately, 3D was completely ruined for me by the Jack Harlow feature. Thank god, there's a version without him but my first listen/watch was tainted lmao. The rest of the album was fine. Like you said, many great vocal lines but just no standouts among the b-sides of the album. Great start to his solo career, I'm looking forward to what's next for him to try!

I agree with you on a ton of this. I feel like the style of music Jungkook has been interested in for a long time is not my style personally. I don’t like any of his BTS solo tracks like Begin or Euphoria. They just hit me as kind of musically unadventurous and samey-samey. Most of the tracks I’ve heard so far off Golden also aren’t for me, including Seven (weirdly, I like 3D but don’t know why). I do LOVE the title track. I was floored! So good. I also quite like some of his past collabs, like Too Much and Left & Right. I feel similarly about Jimin and V’s solo music too, though, in that I like some songs here and there but they’re largely not for me. I think it’s been really interesting to see their individual tastes in music sort of unfurl, regardless of whether they match up with my tastes.

Tbh... the songs are not bad. But that's to be expected if you have enough money to buy good songwriting and producing (choreographers as well), and have a talented performer like JK. But it's really not that special? Like this could be a 1D song or sung by Justin Bieber or Timberlake? If he wants to do more western pop (fair) i would have still wished for his work to feel somewhat artistic (i mean artistic direction by him) or personal, and not just something that seems bought and performed (standing next to you is the only one where i felt he tried to convey some of his own emotions in the performance). It really dimmed my excitement for his future works. He's so talented but tbh these songs are okay on the radio but i wouldn't seek them out from all the other good pop songs that exist already. I am really curious if he's staying on this route

I feel you on the review. I believe he wants to try all music styles and don't believe he had to much time to put more of stamp on the songs because of enlistment and he said he really wasn't going to a solo project. Not bad but can be greater

I only liked closer to you of this album (really viby) other than that the whole album seems to be a mixture of different iconic „borrowed“ sounds (especially the title track - big no go for me, a mashup of MJ, Weekend, Queen, Ed Sheeran, Justin Timberland and many others). Ok everybody does this but not to this extent. I wished he had chosen a style which is specific for him.. I can’t see this in this album..almost every song reminds me of another song. I am sure he can do better than going safe, generic and mainstream because he can really sing.

If you watch carefully and watch carefully and know the song's of BTS there are so many little homages to BTS songs and one of this colabs with Charlie Puth and of course hormage to MJ in some of his dance moves.

Jungkook is my bias, and I thought his vocals sounded absolutely AMAZING throughout the album, however I don’t see myself coming back to this album much, nothing really stood out to me. It felt a little boring to me. I just feel like he has so much more potential. I felt differently than most people when watching Standing Next To You, it felt like he’s singing it because he CAN, but it didn’t feel like HIS song to me. I agree that I think he killed the performance and felt very in it, but the sound still just doesn’t connect for me.
