You have to take into consideration that there is imminent military threat, North Korea, that is literally a one hour drive from Seoul. Every few years they pull out attacks on South Korea, and we are still at war with them though there is no active battle. The North Korean forces outnumber the South by a huge margin (they serve for 10 yrs +) so making enlistment voluntary would be a luxury we can't afford unfortunately. I'm pretty liberal on most things - but putting my life and everyone in this country at risk because people don't want to serve their duties is not a matter of political stance imo.

Here in the US, lots of teen/early 20's celebrities date, and a few fans may be disappointed (and even quietly hope for them to break up), but mostly everybody has the attitude 'live and let live.' Why are idols not allowed to live their own lives? Just so that fans can fantasize that maybe some day they'll get to date the idol? Why do K-pop fans seem to think they should be able to control the lives of idols they don't really know? It just seems bizarre to me.

It's true that fans of American Artists don't seem to behave as agressive as K-pop fans when their celebrities date. I think the difference is that in America, that kind of behavior is not tolerated or encouraged by the society or the industry as a whole,and celebrities do speak up against weird or disrespectful fans sometimes because like "who are you to tell me what I can do with my life?" However, the K-pop industry fosters and encourages fans behavior of possessiveness over the Idol. K-pop fandoms do have more control over the Idols because the companies allow it and the Idols themselves don't say anything for fear of losing fans because they have the power to ruin their careers. I am no expert but that is what it seems to be like.

Facts!! Kpop companies, including bighit (I’m a BTS fan too but let’s be real for a sec), manipulate fans for profit. I think that’s one of the most toxic aspects of kpop. Delulu fans are a natural consequence of the fantasy perpetuated throughout kpop that ones bias is their boyfriend. I will repeat a sentiment I share with a friend of mine on Twitter " If you get that upset about your favorite idols dating or potentially dating, then it's not their music you are into". Artists do not belong to us. We do not own them, no matter how loyal of a fan we are, how much money and/or time we put into them and their music! I am aware that any dating scandal could severely impact an idols career, unlike here in the US, were who an artist dates doesn't generally impact their career. This wasn't a case of fans being "upset oppa was dating," this was an organized attack by a anti/troll community on a Korean forum (called DC Inside Gallery). This forum is notorious for attacking male celebrities in Korea and have done this exact same thing in the past. They illegally obtained the CCTV footage (suspected to have hacked the system which is, once again, illegal in Korea) and created the rumor about him dating the girl. When they saw that ARMYs weren't taking the bait, they then jumped on a comment that said the person in the video looked like rapper Hash Swan. They created numerous fake ARMY accounts and spammed his messages and DMs in an attempt to then smear the fandom. Hash Swan himself even released a statement afterwards that he realized it wasn't ARMYs that attacked him but these antis/trolls.

Here are some info on this performance I hope you may find helpful or for anyone that is interested. Seolhyun has been an active supporter of feminism by liking post and showing support through social media such as Instagram. Seolhyun has been criticized many times for her actions but she will not back down from her morals and beliefs. Yuna was recently criticized in the comments by many korean men after posting a photo of a book about feminism that Irene (Red Velvet) was infamously bashes for carrying/reading. This rendition and theme for the performance of Egotistic was mainly Jimin’s idea and she used a green microphone on stage that Seolhyun gave her as a present. That green mic is important to Jimin and she said she would use it for a important stage. In the end, she decided this gender-bending performance was very important to Jimin therefore she used the green mic for the first time ever. Fun facts include, AOA’s performance has been trending in Korea on KZbin and Twitter in Korea. It trended world wide on twitter and all around the world in many countries. Their performance’s audio was release for sale and they have been one of the only songs to chart on korean music sites and is the highest charting release. Although it has been over a week, the performance is still trending on KZbin in other countries.

I also think this was big for AOA as it is their comeback as 5 members going down from 7 to 6 to finally now 5 left in the team. They have shown their power to move on as 5 and showed the haters that thought they would be nothing without Choa and Mina. Well, not serving your military time is a really big deal in korea...he served little time then he promised he’d go back after his concerts, but he got American citizenship and didn’t go back. It was a VERY BIG deal in korea, it was dishonorable. I feel like he should be forgive now, and come to korea, but it is very hard for others to forgive him. He said that he wants his kids to see where he grew up, but people feel that he will just run back to america when its their time to serve...

It seems some fans go to extreme levels in regards to celebrities and their privacy and it just baffles me As a fan of any celebrity (be it sports, music, acting whatever) you have a right to purchase content, merchandise, concert tickets etc you have a choice to choose what you want to spend your money on and and that's it. I’m confused about the details on that as well. Once you are a full American citizen you can’t have dual citizenship, so he would’ve had to become an expat. (long process) and reclaim citizenship through one of his parents in South Korea but, that takes a long time in general (citizenship is very tedious in East Asian countries) and is not always a guarantee or even an option due to money. So, from a legal point... it’s very difficult to understand without specific Visa/Passport information but, that’s not always necessarily public information. In regards to gaining/buying citizenship or a Visa it’s almost unreasonably expensive. The majority of Americans (born here or otherwise) are not ALL rich, like some other countries claim, it’s just the currency exchange rate of the US Dollar is extremely high. My family is only barely above poverty level (if that) where I live, but if I moved or studied abroad the coast of a small house or apartment in the US could get me a two bedroom, full security apartment in or near a main city in South Korea with a few hundred dollars left over. David really hit the nail on the head when he made the “weird impressions” video on New York. My family would be homeless if we lived in that state. But I love the history behind it, so I’ll just be dreaming of NYC for the rest of my life. Lol 😂

Also, citizenship in the US can take years to obtain and there are a lot of restrictions once you start the process in regards to travel, work, financial records, etc. and if he was a minor when he came here with his parents, then it was probably even more difficult, especially in regards to allowing someone to revoke citizenship later on in life. There’s legal and (inter)national laws that must be followed.
