Kevin Hearn narrates: “At one of our last shows, we were performing Lou’s heartbreakingly personal song “Junior Dad.” We had turned it into a spoken word piece and Lou recited the lyrics while we played an atmospheric drone underneath. It was a beautiful night in Dresden, Germany. A few blocks away, a big fireworks show began right in the middle of the song. I was worried that it would distract Lou and annoy him. Instead, while gesturing towards them, Lou improvised a poem about the fireworks: State of grace, Stars that never last forever, Stars that burn out, and disappear, The cheapest imitation of God, The cheapest imitation of God, A make believe sun, State of grace. Then he returned to “Junior Dad” as the audience cheered and the band built up and rocked out with Lou ’til the end of the song. It was just amazing. We all looked at each other, knowing this was truly special. Many of the band and crew had“. Thanks for this

Many don’t realize, Lou is the master of CRESCENDO! Listen. Be patient. By time the song plays out you’ll have a different perspective on the beginning.

Dresden. Where thousands of bombs fell. Where Kurt Vonnegutt jr. conceived his book. Where Lou performed his Epitaph.

Could this be the most powerful Lou Reed video of all time ? The lyrics, the atmosphere, the random fireworks, the improvising, the way it breaks your heart to see him perform for one of the last times ... Miss you Lou ... Forever my rolemodel and mentor

I like how he was doing Tai Chi to this, as his performance with Metallica would always make me want to do Tai Chi whenever I play it. And I hardly ever do Tai Chi.

Lou Reed wouldn't actually say what this song is actually about, "interprete what you want" apparently... Don't forget Lou had two dads, (father's) His actual father, And Andy warhol, On the album 'songs for drella' Lou made with John Cale, a musical biography of Andy Warhol, A line in the song, 'it wasn't me', I'm no father to you all. Basically one of Andy's groupies, Edie Sedgwick, had died of a drug overdose. And this was Andy's response to this.
