I believe that the Commodore rank was phased out deering the 2270 and their duties were either split between Fleet Captain's and rear admirals or were just completely given over to the rear admirals.

Obviously the narrator doesn't fully understand naval officer ranks, upon which Starfleet based its rank system, considering his misidentifying Commode as the lowest flag rank. Commodore is not so much a rank as a salutation given to Captains in charge of fleets. Jonathan Archer, in the Romulan War novels, was referred to as Commodore when he was leading a fleet, much to his discomfort, but when he had yet to be promoted to Rear Admiral, Lower Half. Rear Admiral, Lower Half was the lowest flag rank, which is a one pip admiral, not Commodore. Following that was Rear Admiral, Upper Half, which was a two pip admiral. He got the rest right though.

What about vice-commodore, and Grand admiral. I also have heard at certain times one star admirals going by rear admiral lower half and two star admirals going by rear admiral upper half.

There is no "Grand Admiral", that's just in Star Wars Rear Admiral "lower half" and "upper half" are in the IRL military, but Starfleet retains the name "Commodore" for the one-star Admiral. There is no such thing as "Vice-Commodore"

@@k1productions87 Pavel Chekhov became a Grand Admiral. Larry Propp was a Vice-Commodore. The Rear Admiral lower half and Rear Admiral upper half weren’t used until the 25th century.

@@k1productions87 Propp is from Star Trek: Perry’s Planet from 1980. Chekov was mentioned as being Grand Admiral in Star Trek: Preserver in 2000. Rear Admiral lower half and Rear Admiral upper half are ranks in Star Trek Online.

@@BenSchuck-vg2pw those are not canon, they don't count. Also, STO totally messes up the context of upper half and lower half by not making either complete ranks. Each only getting 5 levels rather than a full 10. STO is also non canon, though strangely more canon than novels They don't exist in the ACTUAL franchise, only fan works

Starbase1 How about you go over the Starfleet Marine ranks. And yes Starfleet has Marines because even Starfleet requires ground pounders.

Aside from being essentially a simplified US Navy rank structure (with different promotion times, job specifics, elimination of warrant officer class etc because fictional universe)? ok…
