Usually when I see a video is going to be almost an hour long, I think: "Well, I'll can watch it at 1.25 playback speed." But when it's an hour of Bjorn working on an heirloom juniper?: "Awesome! Crack open a beer and settle down for this at normal playback speed!" Great content covering what is essentially advanced level bonsai technique. This was great advertising for Bonsai U, because if this truly typical of its content, I'm signing up!

love the video Bjorn. Beautiful tree, and yeah Junipers are one of the best trees for boonsai just like pine's.

This has help dispel some of the past fears of Juniper as bonsai. The way you explain and show the process of design and styling is much clearer than some I've seen. Great tree as well.

Great video to watch before working on one of my larger junipers in coming weeks. I hope I will have enough patience for that detailed wiring and finally making some of my juniper bonsai to look the way they should! :D Thanx Bjorn you are a huge inspiration on my Bonsai journey.

Really nice work, dude! You're a really good teacher. When I started doing Bonsai, trees like this felt unattainable and probably still are. But I've learnt that these same techniques like tree movement, branch bending and placement, and pad development techniques can be implemented on Nursery bought Junipers and create a fairly nice Bonsai in a couple of years if you are deliberate and take your time setting everything. Only way you really learn is to go to the store and get a tree to work on though...I hope this inspires a lot of people

Can you make a video of a deciduous tree that is about the same age as this tree or requires about the same amount of work? I would like to see how it is done with very old deciduous trees. It would be a change from conifers or junipers.

Great work, awesome result and lots learnt! A question regarding the surface of the live veins, they have obviously been cleaned(scraped back) to reveal the orange/red newer layers but I see lots of creamy white reveals! The question is 'how far is too far and will what is apparent cream/white turn to red/orange healthy outer layer!?' Look forward to an explanation, thanks in advance!
@TejaJaensch4 ай бұрын
Awesome! Thanks mate! Regarding the clean up of the underside of the branch, once wire is on one might twist the branch to add movement and interest, so that would change the potential underside... ? Or you don't often rotate a branch on a tree with this level of refinement?

Ryan Neal is to me more philosophical biologist, Bjorn an aesthetic craftsman and much more accessible and natural imho..

@@jballenger9240 that was my initial thought., I then thought the inevitable conclusion would be 3 rounds of 3 minutes in the ring to see who would be the victor.

@@chriscarol4965 I agree with your assessment. I appreciate both of them for what they bring to Bonsai. I would just love to see them in the ring. I’d like Ryan to put up a valiant fight and for Bjorn to come out the eventual victor .Bjorn is the goat imho….. besides the Japanese masters of course 😅
