JUNK Case Backhoe FIRE BURN Restoration Unbelievable!

This tractor was only 4 years old when it was in a pole shed fire. I bought it from a tractor salvage yard. These projects are treasures due to the savings. I logged over 1,200 trouble free hours doing a lot of landscaping work here. We looked at some more fire burned tractors after this for some side projects. The running used ones in that price range were quite rough and would of needed repairs shortly after anyway. It was in a tractor salvage yard. I did go look at it several times before purchase trying to check the engine out best as possible. So glad I did that now where many beneficial changes to the yard could be done now! Nice to get a comment on the video work! I always enjoyed doing video editing & shooting for many years prior to this YT thing. I have a bunch of video of good times had by many doing different fun things here. Lately I put some together for the people that were in them. They make great gifts & generate sweet grins & thank you's. :>)

That is a fantastic job you did resurrecting that backhoe from the grave. I saw a bobcat that caught on fire for sale and I was hesitant to buy it. It is not nearly as bad as your backhoe was. But now seeing what you did there makes me want to tackle it.

Thank you Mad Dog. Just beware - there were several machines I looked after doing this job. It was evident that those machines were set on fire where the engine went bad and someone wanted to collect the insurance money as if they were good running machines.

Hi That is amazing to see what you started and ended with! the video was the best 14 mins i've spent here in ages. I re built a fire damaged Case 1490 and 1690 tractors for guys in my shop , They weren't this bad but still a headache by the time they where right! so know exactly what you went through. I bet with parts prices these days you couldn't buy this and do it now. I used to buy and fix tractors to re sell, I quit 2 years ago, when the only guy gettin holidays and a new truck from my work was my parts guy. You did a beautiful job on that restore. Those burned vehicles can really be a headache, but you did it right by stripping the whole thing from the beginning. I usually try not to, and end up spending more time than if I had just done it right. Really nice work.

klmartin, Thank you for your comment. This was one job that I wondered if I could pull it off. I did have most of the tools to do this but did borrow a few. That torque multiplier was borrowed. When I was done I polished the lenz, tool and cleaned the case. Also gave that guy a $20. He asked if there was anything I wished to borrow! Had to borrow the cylinder hones too from another friend as we were always exchanging favors.

Yeah them were very nice machines! The ones around here look a bit rough too. Actually a friend who had a 580 c & wanted to store it here for a weekend. (working in this area & didn't have a trailer) He told me to go ahead and use it. That's what got me going to get one. And actually a customer told me about the one I bought. Here's the best part. It was supposed to be a 1986. I started ordering parts and nothing was correct. Come to find out it was a 1991. (bought in 95) Of course the hours were unknown but all the pivot pins had minimal wear. The scope is a Hameg. It don't get used as much now where the new scan tools have grafting. I'm set up to record waveform on a micro SD and then play it back on the desktop! That's the hot ticket for very intermittent issues. The current limited power supply has been quite beneficial too. My Ratelco died a while back and bought a Mastech. Finally looked at the old unit. It had a bad disc transistor but the whole unit had to be torn apart to get at that one! +Steve Raymond Thankx Steve. Actually a few people did ask - why get so fussy as you said. The part that made me feel the most comfortable was the story on how it was damaged fit the evidence. It was in a pole shed that started on fire. There was those rafter staple plates laying on the floor. Usually when people were burning for profit on a bad machine they do it at a job site or out in a field. The oil was down not quite a 1/2 qt and fairly clean. I could turn the engine over and felt good with that tool that goes in the bell housing hole for that purpose. The trans I had no idea but wasn't worried I guess. There is a dipstick for checking and was pretty clean oil. All in all sure is great when all did go so well!

+david peirce Hi David. Most work usually run around 16 - 1,800 RPM. The machine is limited to 2,500 max. It is nice to have an older machine in great cond. Sounds like a nice choice you have there! Went and looked at it twice where was aware that people were damaging machines with a bad engine and claiming for insurance profit. (seen a few that was quite evident) Heard they do oil samples now to keep the corrupt people at bay. When I first got this my dad stopped in. He asked 3 times if it will run. Finally told him not to worry - your not the one paying for it. ;>) Good luck on your project Dave, Jeff.

Thanks Winnie s. Ive always been interested in the automotive industry & building things. Years back people brought me things to fix at night. Then it turned into a business. I use to do more body work than mechanical/electrical until the 90's where fuel injection had become widely used in the automotive industry & need of servicing. Now I diagnose late model electronics in cars, repair them and perform mechanical services too.

I had a 580 super k that burned, it was the positive battery cable rubbing on the metal over the top of the bell housing. The frame is used as a fuel tank/ hydraulic tank and with heavy use the welds on the inside of the box frame crack resulting in fuel/hydraulic leaks needing frequent welding. The end result is an oily buildup on the subframe providing something flammable to burn. Cost me a fortune to fix but we put it back in operation.

Hello friend! Really enjoy when folks say where their from. I enjoy how this YT thing brings people together from all over the world. That was the girlfriend for many years. That's what I really like about YT, too. There are so many people in this world who have great ideas and really good ways to create videos to help others with something. And it is irrelevant where they are from. But filming it and put it on YT is a lot of work. Takes a lot of time to repair your stuff when you have to film it ...and then comes theediting.
