Junk Journal January Day 6: Embossed • Journal Challenge 2025 • lets make real Junk look pretty!

My mom grew up in the depression & there were a couple of tragedies in her life at that time, but she always remembered that time as being happy! Her mom also showed the kids how to make art out of trash! They used the little foil lids from the milk bottles! Years later my mom showed her children how to do that also! I had completely forgotten about that! Thanks for the memories!! I routinely use Amazon packaging for my journal covers. Most of my tags start off as the thicker junk mail pieces, which I back with the brown packing paper. I also like saving lettering & labels from kitchen stuff, sometimes they are used as ephemera, just a few decades later than all the TH tiny snippets! It’s really fun to discover what can be used, rather than tossed away! Thank you, for sharing your creativity with us ! Erica❤

You ask a good question about using junk in our junk journals-for me, a mix of junk and reuse and new stuff. Oh, and thanks for the embossing idea! No yogurt lids, but tin foil would also work…and THAT I have!

Thank you so so much, Yes for me it’s a mix of different Things too, just always happy to being able to create somthing Beautiful out of Things that would have been going to the trash otherwise. Tin Foil will absolutly work :)

This is great! I also don’t have any embossing tools so o tried to emboss vellum and paper using a white gel pen. Yours turned out amazing! Such a great idea!

Very pretty. You're right, it doesn't need anything else. I decided last year, as I am 83, only to use what I have in the apartment, and thus far I still find plenty to work with and it gives me more joy

Yes, you are right, if you do it your own idea of creativity, you won't need to hoard beautiful papers, stickers and constantly buying online for more. If you really are creative art person, even from a simple wraps of snacks you can make it into something beautiful. I tried less stuff buying online for my junk journal it's so exhausting and cost me a lot. Thanks for inspiration of your authenticity of making your own junk journal. 😊

I’m a bit behind on my days but I’ll get there lol I still homeschool one child of mine and today I was teaching her how to use a sewing machine.. I love how you thought outside the box with this and yes I am absolutely using my trash for junk journal January which I think it’s super awesome to do because I don’t have to buy nothing and I’m literally using what I have even if it’s the stuff I would be throwing away., it’s just a great way to use it.. anyway thanks for showing us what you are doing!!! 💜💜✌️
