The trains chugging, the birds calling, the children chattering... the carpentry, shaving, scraping, sanding, cutting,, carving, clamping, all the noises and visuals combined, lacking only the scent of the wood, wax, and grime... there, you've gone and made me go all poetical, just watching a vid of you restoring something that most people wouldn't even have bothered with... Well, anyone would so love having one of your restored works of art. You are a master craftsman in restoration. Here in the UK you would love it, for we have been cheerfully throwing lovely period furniture in the trash since the last war. You can pick up such items for a song at the auctions because nobody values them. Your dedication and the time that you spend is priceless. I can guarantee that there is no-one to match what you do in our land, which is full of short cuts and modern rubbish- and this is what is valued here. The days of such pieces are long gone, but you make the past come back to life.

My Mum had one of those they were beautifully made pieces. My goodness what a lot of work. Everything taken apart, then reassembled, the scrapping and the sanding and the holes, my goodness what a lot of holes in that wood. It came out stunning well done it is back to being around for another hundred years. My Grand dad swore by the hand planers and the hundred year old saws. He even had a old iron bench clamp with the steel rod to tighten the screw. He made a few pieces of furniture in his time including a very dark wood almost black dressing table for my mum and then it was handed down to me then to my sisters before it got infested with wood worm and then dad took it to the back of the yard and we had a bonfire. I am glad you restored it too many pieces of furniture end up on a burn pile these days there is ways to bring things back to life or reinvent them into something else. I am also glad you saved the original makers marks on the back that was an especially nice touch. A grand job sir!

You did a beautiful job. I have one I restored my grandmother gave to me. It was totally black varnish. I stripped it in high school for FHA project. My grandfather built it in the 1930s. I love it. I am now 75 years old. You are great!

Amazing restoration, it is satisfying to see something that most people would of dumped, brought back to its former glory. Well done!

Thanks! I actually dug this out of a neighbor's trash so it had already been dumped! I am tempted to invite them over to see it...

Labour of Love ❤🩹 Incredible work, I'm sure the original maker would be very proud!

That would be incredible. I need to research the company some more to see when happened to it. It is from a local furniture maker back in the early to mid 1900s.

It’s amazing, you even restore and reuse the original hardware. Congrats on a splendid work. It was a joy watch your video.

Thank you very much! The hinges are cool and were in great shape under all of that paint. I was glad I could reuse them. Luckily I found a key that could be modified so that I could use the old lock too. I actually bought another vintage lock just in case I could not get the original to work. I'll have it for a future project.

Oh!! My jaw is on the floor & I can’t stop looking at this ‘Cinderella story!’ I really do hope you decide to keep it, you’ve turned its life around & I don’t know that anyone else would appreciate what it took to get it where it is today. Back to unabashedly staring 😃❤❤❤

Thank you for the very kind words! I am not certain what I will do with it yet. I found it in a neighbor's trash and could not resist picking it up but I've already got one of these in my home. It will be here until my wife makes me give it away!! 🙂

Until I watched this video, I never would have believed anyone could repair that damaged piece. Even better you mostly used the original wood. When you need to add patches, the repairs were seamless. I loved the final color choice. Repairing and reusing the original hardware was a chef’s kiss. I hope you were able to sell it. If not it will be a beautiful piece to pass down. Thanks for sharing.

Hi. Thanks for a kind and thoughtful message. I have not tried to sell it so right now it sits in my dining room. I love how it turned out. Not bad for a garbage pick find. 🍀

I like the gloves. Great to see someone taking care of their hands using sanders. Especially wire ones too. I'm loving this refurb as I inherited one similar from my mum.

Thanks!! So glad you are enjoying the process. I am not always good about wearing gloves or masks but the lead paint in this one made me a little more cautious.

You’re the best. Restoration is awesome. I especially appreciate that you use as much of the original piece as possible and make repairs using wood (love all the little dowels), not filler or bondo.

Thanks for the kind words! The next one will be a classic oak desk from the same time period. Found it at an estate sale and it's been outside for years so some work is required. Stay tuned!
