Junked Robin EC10 Two Stroke Engine Restoration [Part 1 of 2]

Those are unique vertical shaft engines. I don't think I have ever heard of the Robin name until a couple of years ago when I saw someone else restore one. I am used to seeing Honda, Briggs & Stratton, Kohler, and Predator engines. Looking forward to part 2 soon.

Yes that is correct, the newer motors are under Wisconsin-Robin if I am not mistaken.

The kind of painting that you did when you were painting the parts what do they call that? Can you explain it to me please? I’m 60 years old and I don’t know how I understand there’s a powdered that goes on it I just don’t know how it works.

Hi Chuck, I have the same gun. The “paint” comes as a very fine powder like talc that you add to a hopper on top of the orange coloured gun. Then you attach an alligator clip from the powder coating unit to the work. There is a foot pedal on the floor and when you push it down very high voltage, low amps is applied to the metal part you’re painting. This creates a static charge in the part that attracts the fine powder. It gets sprayed out of the gun at about 10psi and when you’re happy with the coating you bake it in an oven usually around 180c for between 10 and 20 minutes. Once it comes out of the oven and cools it’s done. Each powder has its own baking instructions. I just use an old domestic oven for my baking and an old large tool box with an extractor fan for a painting booth. Unlike paint the powders can’t be mixed as you end up with two colours in a speckled effect but it is extremely durable, think kids play equipment in the local park. There are no solvents, I just clean up with a vacuum cleaner and once it’s cooled it’s finished so there is no waiting for it to dry. I find it quicker, easier, more convenient and a lot more durable than spray painting. Cheers Stuart 🇦🇺
