6:30 nice lesson, thanks! I thought that chromatic mediants were only between chords which roots are related via thirds, so you can go from Cm to Em, but I definetely heard that in my favourite score music there are things like Cm to C (shift from minor to major is very satisfying). Nice examples, I'd like this topic to be covered more!

@@minorseven2791 I was so hyped for it and planned to see it in the theater over christmas and on the day it came out I checked and not a single theater in my city (of over 2.5 million people) was showing it. So I don't know if that happened anywhere else but maybe the reason it underperformed was not because people didnt want to see it but because theaters didnt show it.

Really think something went wrong with the marketing. I was pretty excited for it read the books then it just never appeared and before i know it was out of cinemas and had flopped. still haven't seen it.

@@JackGreenAudio i saw it opening night in theaters with my friends and we all loved it a lot! i was stoked to see sequels. then i started seeing the reception and honestly i was confused. i thought it was a really fun movie!

Just saw Mortal Engines. The music with the visuals of London chasing the little city and charging the gate in the end was amazing. I sat through the complete credits to listen to the music. Really great job, Tom!

I did notice that harmonics were slightly less silky than the rest of the orchestra, only a few years later :P, FYI. I think the look on your face gave it away a bit, and that's one of the reasons I have given it extra attention 😄. Love your videos and hope to see more coming soon for Rebel Moon for example. Thanks in advance ;)

Love the Gaffer Tape! Enjoyed how you tied it all in. Kudos for sharing and explaining Mediant !! Contra forte bassoon wow. IS THE FOLLOWING MUSIC LAW: almost always seems a character's theme in some way reflects the gender of that character masculine/feminine . Is this true or just my perception? Please explain.

Goed bezig weer, Tom - kelere.

Hi Magic Junkie XL. I'm studing - almost frame by frame! - ALL your episodes (well... a better word is "lessons"...'coz they are!). May i ask you an episode where you explain what are the arguments that leads to the decision of writing a score for a scene (or part of a scene). It is only a movie director's decision?... or the composer is involved in that decision? or can to propose music ideas for this or that scene? And the other side is interesting too... i mean... the decision of not to put music in a scene and why! Collateral arguments can be... if the music composer is involved in the sound design of single sounds or (particular) "noises" that play a significant role in the scene. Tnx for sharing your art and BIG knowledge with us!

Remember, there's about 50 - 70 professional musicians who needs to be paid. Add technicians, mixers, gear rental, studio rent and you're quickly looking at 20-25K USD for one hour and that's probably on the cheap end of the spectrum. When you get to Toms level, you're probably looking 50 000+ an hour.
@DaveDexterMusic5 жыл бұрын
+Massivecarcrash There's bound to be orchestras that expensive, but I recorded for six hours recently with an 80 piece orchestra. Cost, ~£12,000 plus VAT, as musicians are cheaper where I went. That included everything except mastering. I do all my own orchestration and part prep so saved money there. More expensive studios/orchestras like Abbey Road and one of the London groups; ~£25k for three hours (I had a quote). As for "Tom's level", the level of the composer isn't really relevant. A studio, staff and orchestra costs what it costs. They're hired by knowns and unknowns alike. 50k an hour is insane.
@Massivecarcrash5 жыл бұрын
DaveDexterMusic I stand corrected. I’ve been wondering what it cost you to record a full orchestra, been following you since your debunking day and here we are on a junkie xl video. The media composition world sure is a small one 😌
