Well... smashed my nose on your channel Man. While is stupid to say how GREAT you are as a composer and musician... i wanna to say you how much you are inspiring me on how analyze any cinematic character (heroes... props... situations... atmospheres... emotions... everything is an "actor" in the movie language) and translate it in music. Dunno WHY you feel the need to share your hard work (hard on everything... not only compositing... but also on every cable must run... every piece of gear must sit... everything must have his place). The answer - imho - is "enthusiasm". Enthusiasm for your work. Enthusiasm for music. Enthusiasm for talk about music and music gear with not only the "pro" environment... but also with the worldwide "musical people". You can't imagine how i w'd love to spend days and days talking to you and questioning about the most little detail of your job. But i can't... so... I just wanna say thank you for all your work Man and for every infos you share with us! Happy now year 2019 Man! And tnx again from Italy (Sicily-Palermo) ;-)

Yep... Horner was a Great composer ;( Maybe... Sounds like 'cause melody based on pentatonic (5 notes default) ("Celtic scale") and half tone higher . It's a powerful weapon and giving a right mood. Whose fault that pentatonic is so narrow?! ;D But look at other important thing! How it's realized: initial tune is giving right mood and than it's flowing wider! Imho...;) Thank you, Tom. Brilliant as always! Happy New Year and Marry Christmas! Peace ;)

Just found your channel a couple of days ago. I started to write "cinematic" music (if you want to call it that way) this year and I'm really grateful to find videos like this one on KZbin. Thanks for sharing! Take care and a happy new year 2019 to you sir!

I noticed that on the "Katherine's theme" or "Miss Valentine" on the recording, in the beginning, when the theme is just start playing, there's another sound that seem to be captured in the recording: like there's a player who is turning his/her note sheet or something like that, but I'm pretty sure it's a page/sheet turning sound.
@ControlStealDelete6 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure that's just the audio from Tom's lapel mic, not part of the actual live recording.
@CatatanAimar6 жыл бұрын
@@ControlStealDelete I don't think so. I'm also listening to the recording I purchased from iTunes, and I'm hearing the same thing.

That Planets theme is from the Jupiter movement.

I was thinking the same - we adapted it to “world in union” Pluto is a very dissonant track.

The Planets by Holst does not have a movement called "Pluto". In 2000, Colin Matthews wrote a movement called "Pluto" to be added to the suite but it was definitely not Holst's music. You must be thinking of another movement. Maybe check the score?

I could be mistaken, but isn't that rather the Jupiter Theme from the Planets? I think the melody is used in "I vow to thee my country". I'm swiss so no guarantee but pretty sure it's Jupiter, not Pluto 😋😅
@ULSWC6 жыл бұрын
I thought the same thing! I went back and listened to Pluto but nothing in there matches Tom's descriptions. I think it's Jupiter too. Tom's melody actually did remind me of that part in Jupiter before I even watched this video here. EDIT: Tom corrects himself later in the video, it's indeed Jupiter

Hey Tom,thanks for your amazing and useful channel, I have 2 questions about film music and wish you answer: why Time signature changes so often in film music( even in the parts that seems there is no hitpoint) and second question: does film music has forms and parts like veres,chorus etc? If it has, where should I learn them? Thanks so much
