How do you find motivation to compose such a deep music for a any film than might be "mediocre" or childish? Thank you very much. I love you work.

Hi Tom I noticed that there are a lot of edits and cross fades on the live recording. Is that because of conforming to picture?

Hans Zimmers Masterclass was a brief glimpse into the craft of film composing, but this series is an in depth course of instruction and it's frickin FREE!!!!!!!!!
@simonjohansson248
@simonjohansson248 3 жыл бұрын
I think Zimmers class was meant to be more on the philosophy, mindset and theory of film scoring in order to be applicable to all styles of film music. As much as I love Toms videos, they're very narrowly focused on big Hollywood action-adventure movie-esc scores.

Tom! Youre a constant inspiration and motivation to me. I totally admire all your videos. I am a musician playing guitar in an uprising rock band in Germany yet I love movie scores since my childhood (started with John Williams and Danny Elfman). I find it very difficult for me to dive in this art of music making because I usually dont have much time. Thanks to corona I have some time now. So I hope you will keep doing those videos in the future. Stay safe and happy and healthy.

Sampling a garbage truck, very creative! Reminds me a little of Einstürzende Neubauten’s approach to music vs noise, they use things like plastic pipes, old metal junk, etc to use for instruments. This track and the London Suite is my favourite off of Mortal Engines, you did a wonderful job with the music!

If you hear a sound in nature or in your daily life and decide to use it in a score, do you usually actually sample the audio of the real thing or do you try to remake it with synths (if possible of course)? Really loved the sound design in this track and how the strings play the same melody later in the track.

Hey Tom! Loving this series! Thank you so much for taking the time to explain the process to us mortals! :) Could you please talk a bit more about timing in your themes? How do you decide the tempo? Are you staying locked to one bpm/time signature throughout the track, or you're free to change the flow? Thanks and Happy Holidays!

Hey Tom! Great Episode! I have a question...when you do these themes/suites for particular characters, do you book an orchestra session just to record these suites separately from the rest of the score? Are any of these suites done in sync with the picture or are they free-flowing pieces of music? And when you get the live recordings of the orchestra, do you just edit those stems to match the scenes or do you record the pieces again with the orchestra with the piece exactly conformed to the picture?
