I relate to this video on so many levels. Soon as you walked around the back I was shouting, grab the tail lights! GRAB THE TAIL LIGHTS! Great video, and no that's why why I don't crawl under junkyard cars. Last trip to my local yard, there were 8 Saabs and all the goodies plus the parts I needed were snagged / already gone. Your vid reminds me I too need to do a junkyard video on my channel...A sub for a sub?

I’m on day 3 of Saab 9-3 ownership. I am learning this key and ignition is a big deal
@p-riff5 жыл бұрын
Joes Golden Garage not the biggest thing to worry about. I have 190k on my 04 9-3, original key, ism(ignition switch) and CIM. Just always have a spare key. As long as you have a spare key, someone with a tech 2 can program you new keys. If you lose both of them, that’s when it’ll be expensive. If the ignition switch goes bad, it can easily be replaced for cheap and programmed, and the CIM is known for going bad by Jump Starting the car improperly. That’s what I was told by a good friend who’s a Saab Tech. I’m no expert! My advice is finding someone with a tech 2 near you who knows about the cars and you’ll be all good!
@JoesGoldenGarage5 жыл бұрын
P-RIFF thx for the advice. So if I only got 1 key with the car it would be a smart idea to get another one made? How and who should I get to do that for me? Any of these online sites? Thx again
@p-riff5 жыл бұрын
Joes Golden Garage yes, you can buy the entire key online, then get it programmed to your car if you find someone with a tech 2. The cheaper option for me was to go to the junkyard like he did and I found a few keys that were beat up like that, then I bought a pair of key shells on eBay for 20$ and transferred the little green mother boards from the junkyard keys, into the new shells, got the blank keys etched to be able to open the door, and got them programmed so I have 2 spares. The guy charged me 50$ to get them programmed and only paid $10 for the junkyard keys. So in total about $80 for two spares. But you can buy the entire key on eeuro parts and get it programmed if you want a more expensive, yet easier route. The biggest thing is to find someone with a tech 2. I’m not sure where you are located, but check google, the forums, and check craigslist for someone who is near you with a tech 2. I’m sure there is! But don’t be too worried! Just keep your key safe and ENJOY THE CAR!

P-RIFF ok cool. Thx for the very helpful info. Unfortunately the closest junkyard saab 9-3 to me is this one in this video in Columbus Ohio. I am in Georgia ha ha. If I order the key from europarts I still have to get it programmed by somebody with a tech 2. I have never heard this term tech 2 before. Lol. I guess that is saab speak. I will call around to some of my local places and see if I can get some help. Thanks again for your help

Joes Golden Garage yea a tech 2 is the Saab diagnostic scan tool. Good luck with everything!

Funny here in Brisbane Australia wrecker charge double as much for parts from wrecker from in-state including postage. I not talking about Saab's but common Australian cars. I said to them a few times, mate I can buy new cheaper with warranty. Answer go buy them.

I'm certainly no Saab expert, so I appreciate the recommendation! I've slowly been learning more about which parts to get though. As of recently, I've been lucky in that my junkyard has been offering a new Saab for parts once every month. So, more opportunities to snag parts in the future!
@brandondorsey50645 жыл бұрын
I've found 2 9-3s in the boneyard that were the 2.8l. I've got both of ecu. One had a Krona strut tower bar and steel braided brake lines. The other had a k&n airfilter, and a set of better looking wheels than the 5 spoke. Everyone one hits the yard within 60 miles I go to check it out lol

Whats crazy is I get there quick, but someone always beats me and tears up the center console to rip out the ISM. They'll even take the key which renders the left CIM useless! I like to think I atleast respectfully remove parts.

Do the ice block tail lights off 93's fit 2006 93's or if there is any difference in the shape of the tail lights. They look a whole lot better than what's on my car. If I can ever get a set I'd love to swap them out. I think in the discretion 2007 and newer

Don't know whether the U.S is the same as the UK. ....but.....if a car is in a junkyard (breakers yard) it normally has a cod issued (Certificate of destruction) Which removes it from the national vehicle database....consequently It is not allowed back outside the confines of the junkyard. In theory.....but we all know it happens.... Great video. ...enjoyed it.
