A camshaft swap in the LS1 motor was such an easy and bang for the buck mod. Throw on Borla and an airbox and that engine was ridiculous.

Back in the day before 911 we had a sbe sbc make 550 at the tire on spray. It was the dyno record for a while and it was a ford place. They hated us.
@jaypisme2343 Жыл бұрын
Our buddy worked there and sold the dyno sheet to a kid for 20 dollars. We ran into a kid in town who wanted to race he handed me that sheet. I looked for a sec and said no way. I said sure we will race we have the car that made that power. He didn’t have a lot to say he was so embarrassed.

Ty for putting this video together, It’s almost identical to the combo I’m working on. Do you recall what the injector duty cycle was on the 80’s at this boost level on E?

Hey Rich, any plans for a "Diesel power" type testing (preferably boosted Gen VI 454)? Something with BIG mid-range and a max RPM of about 5/5500 to be used in a tow/haul application. Turbo choice would likely be key to quick boost response, without excessive backpressure.
@baby-sharkgto4902 Жыл бұрын
My combo is easily making well over 40 hp per lb of boost…. sort of… because that is not factoring in the parasitic loss of the supercharger. Something fun for everyone to think about and to consider when doing their own calculations 🤯

so your na motor makes 588 hp?

@@richardholdener1727 hi Richard! It is a 427 stroker LS with AFR 245 heads, cam is 243/259 .624/.624 116 +5. I never had the engine on an *engine* *dyno* per se but this combination is well documented to make 625-650+ NA power.

Thanks Rich for all your hard work. Do you have any data over the years to compare de-capped factory injectors with aftermarket injectors. Any opinions on this topic?
@richardholdener1727 Жыл бұрын
DECAPPED IS NOT GREAT-IT TAKES A LOT OF DECAPPING TO GET 8 THAT FLOW THE SAME-AND EVEN IF 100% DUTY IS THE SAME-THE SLOPES CAN BE DIFFERENT
So would changing the degree as to where it’s set in at help bring lower in torque numbers up? Not sure what the truck Norris cam is ground on but say it’s a 112 or 109 an you set it in on 104 degrees thanks

What about adding rocker ratio, for every .1:1 of rocker ratio gives about 2 degrees more of duration@ .050" plus the extra lift it provides. So if you go up about .3:1 that would be like a cam with 6 more degrees of duration and the extra lift from the ratio. Have you tested this with a factory cam with boost to see if there would be an increase?
@richardholdener1727 Жыл бұрын
rocker ratio tended to add power with rpm on the stock cam

I thought so too, but Richard has done a video explaining that valve timing at high rpm is still a minuscule amount of time, coupled with back pressure, there isn’t going to be a whole heap of boost blowing through an open exhaust valve. I too am interested in this effect as I’m going cheap on a turbo build by using my previous big cam (VCM710 with 110°lsa) from an N/A LS1. The cam is probably way too big as the turbo engine is an LR4 4.8, but I’m a sucker for punishment.
