I love the look of these photos, just imagine the editing you would have to do to get such amazing pics. The models also look good, as always.

i have my jupiter 8 and my zeiss sonnar 1.5 for years now and i love them. the sonnar is up for sale as its from 1942 and insanely rare but the jupiter 8 is just as good optically especially the ones pre 1957-58

The early Nikkor 105mm 2.5 was also a Sonnar configuration, and likewise has a just magical look to it. One of my favorite lenses.

I picked up the Jupiter-3, the f/1.5 version of this 50 mm decades ago. (LSM). Nice sharp lens I use on my M’s both film & digital. My only qualm is that the aperture ring rotates in the opposite direction to those on Leitz & Voightlander lenses

Matt, I really love how these photos look. I just joined your Patreon and I just bought a excellent condition Leica SL for the purpose of adapting vintage lenses. Would love to see a video about lenses that will give you the retro film look. That's totally what I'm going for now days. I feel like most modern lenses are too perfect and boring.

Couple things I found out in St Petersburg, Russia from a old gentlemen who worked 20 years on a camera factory back in soviet times and now doing repairs. The quality of lenses varies, sometimes a lot. One of my copy has weird left sided vignette, other two idk, just tested recently and I hope they fine. Cameras as well, you may found perfectly working or not working at all body. Body and lenses quality are down to the fact that soviet industry didn't have proper quality control whatsoever - in planned economy you had to fulfill the plan and everything else doesn't matter. So as Matt mentioned in other videos - if you wanna buy Kiev-4a camera, it's better to buy only film tested bodies. Idk if this equally applies to Jupiter-8 and Jupiter-8m. As for Carl Zeiss 50mm F/1.5, it's amazing lens, but several other people in vintage camera store told me that you'll need to calibrate your Kiev-4a rangefinder if you want accurate focusing with that lens. Idk if it's true, but those people told me that there's some differences in Jupiter-8 rangefinder calibration and Carl Zeiss. I'd much much prefer Carl Zeiss one, it's really hard to find in Russia, but considering that issue idk if it's really worth it, I have one perfectly functioning Kiev-4a with the lens, that I bought for $20 and so far I'm fine with it.
@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom11 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing and sorry for my late reply. As I know the Contax and Kiev cameras and lenses are 100% interchangeable so the Sonnar lens should be spot on on the Kiev 4a. Mine is. That said, as you correctly say, there is so much variation out there nothing is guaranteed!

Bravo. Another wonderful video/review. A computer will design a lens dependent upon the variables you feed it. Obviously color depth and accuracy are not enough as some makers have found. I, too, like the J8's, the early KMZ's seem the best. I have a '51 and a '57. The '57 is as good as any 50 I have. And you know I tend to Sonnar 50's, the old ones. They sing on an M9 and do fine on an M240, too, and well on the little Pixii APSC. They work on the X2D and cover the entire sensor. Your game is always improving. I see a surely great future for you in your profession of model photography. You are very good at it and can get along with the models well. The latter is very important no doubt. Cheers and get well soon.

Hi Matt. These locations are awesome. Did you ask permission to shoot? I assuming the bookshop was you just winging it till it got busy.... but the Vault inside the indigo...it looked like you'd booked time there as the models clothing was more revealing and also iy looked lik your lights were behind the bar and infront of the bar quite an obstruction if they were trading. Great session and great shots.

Thanks, yes the book shop we went early, asked, bought coffee and tried to grab some shots before too busy. The vault we booked out for the day so we had it mostly to ourselves.

Has anybody tried the M-mount Rangefinder coupled Shoten adapter for 50mm Pentax (PK/K-mount) lenses yet? Could have been interesting too try, especially for my K 50mm f1,2.. Adapter is about half the cost of the lens, but.. :) The lens is sort of affordable (V1), but maybe underrated?

I’ve not, one of my Patreon had the new M42 adapter and that worked fine.
