I glad how they handled Brandon’s character in the show because in the comic he was winny dickhead but in show he’s just a kid trying to make his father proud and to me that’s a compelling arc and I’m excited for the future of his character especially in season 2.

I actually dissagree. I thought the winny Jaden Smith-esqueness really fit someone who's kind of just been handed the world on a silver platter. It makes the fact that he was able to be manipulated so easily really believable.

@langleymneely3 жыл бұрын
I was taken aback by how slow it was AND how abruptly it ended, though I still enjoyed it. I discovered that they are not calling it Season 1, Season 2, etc. The first 8eps are considered the first half of the season, or the way they call it: Volume 1. I am hoping this means we get the other half sooner rather than a year or more from now like traditional seasons. I too was pleasantly surprised by how Invincible put its twist/revelation right up front in the first episode. I really think Jupiters Legacy would have benefited from similarly putting the stories big turning point (no spoilers) at the end of Volume 1. I get that they want to have the status quo of certain characters stay on the series as long as they can but I am afraid the show won’t find enough of an audience in Volume 1 to justify getting to the twist/reveal in Volume 2. I actually think the actors are great, they are just hindered by the slow pace of the series and its writing. Matt Lanter as Skyfox and his son Hutch are particular stand outs IMO. I also enjoyed the fleshing out of the island and how the 6, and the world, got their powers. I am really curious if non book readers will take to the story so far with out the huge turning point to hook them in? The dual timeline story telling reminds me of The Godfather saga. Its the story of a family legacy over the course of 20th century America and its ups and downs. Its not on par with Godfather obviously but that’s how I have been describing it to potential watchers. Its The Godfather through a superhero lens. For me the best parts of the present day story arc take place years in the future, AFTER the turning point/reveal. Little Jason is the breath of fresh air that the entire story pivots around in a positive way. I would think you would want to get to that asap? I don’t personally need Jupiters Legacy to be a drawn out 7 season tv show. I think the story works best as a limited series event or miniseries that gets in, tells its story & gets out. In all I still enjoyed it but I agree it was a bit too uneven pacing wise. Cheers!
@twistedcastles36133 жыл бұрын
I think Jupiters legacy is hindered by the fact the comics arent done yet and the show is kind of slowing things down , I felt the comic moved way to fast. We barely knew the characters when the climax happened in the first Volume so it felt like pure shock value. I think slowing it down will make the action pay off. Maybe not a 7 season show but a solid 4/5 season show with seasons divided into 2 parts, so about 16 episodes a season. I agree with you they need to get to the big twist in season 2, if the show goes there soon I think it still has a chance to gain traction.

Narrative pacing is what stood out the most. There are 2 stories being told at the same time and could have been shuffled around to make the story tighter. The subtext had something going for it. Certain plot points were rushed. However, I liked this one and only season. It's sad because I think the show needed a 2nd season. There was alot to explore in this series.

I actually thought the past stuff was more interesting than the current day stuff. I got a lot more out of fleshing out the pre-powers days of Sheldon and the Union than having the current day goings on from the comics go at the glacial pace it did. I didn't particularly mind since it's clear they're going for a different way of getting the plot out but I'd be lying if I said I was entirely happy with how it was handled.
@superg50zero323 жыл бұрын
A couple of mistakes they did was the origin story of the six was just too long, it could of been told in 5 episodes. Which brings me to how short the season was, 12 episodes would've been good to get everything fleshed out. The wigs and makeup were kind of distracting but it didn't take me out of the story, I actually liked the costumes with the alien symbols on them. All in all I liked it but I didn't love it so hopefully they come back with a season 2 to make it better.

I've watched through your reviews for this series of comics and I am preferring the TV series because it is taking a different take on the overall plot. I think Millar is a really interesting writer but he tells stories like an over caffeinated kid. You are given a very interesting premise which is fleshed out in places but it's told like "then this happened and boom pow crash then this other guy flew in and blasted..." he also likes to throw shock value items in cause he can 'Wanted' being the worst example of this trait.

this show was fantastic, its a blend of super heroes and classic pulp adventure. It shows a world where Heroes are a byproduct of something and have no formal way of education for the next generation since the previous generation has no idea what to do. The writing and acting is absolutely top notch, everyone was crushing their roles and work so well off each other. This is one of those rare shows that expand on their source material adding to the already established interest. the Visuals are hit a miss, the adventure end look absolutely amazing, but the super hero fights are ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i have seen better. Overall this show gets a solid A- or 8/10 from me as i cant wait to see where this series goes if it gets more seasons, i just wish it dident come out so under the radar.

As a POC I notice lack of representation in comics, but sometimes it absolutely makes sense. For instance in a comic set in the 1920s - 1960s America. I just don't see how one could avoid the race issues and having a hero be called the N-word and how that would turn him/her into being somebody who just wouldn't be interested in being a hero, but would rather take on the civil rights movement. So if you race swap characters from the time, you need to address issues from the time. It's called worldbuilding.

Will you be doing your video of Jupiters Legacy: Requiem issues 1-6? I found it INCREDIBLY confusing; it was difficult to follow who was the child of who and the art style just made it a bit worse. BUT i found issue #6 was quite good and brought a lot of strands together.

I will. But I might wait until the entire series ends, I think they are going up to issue 12. I might change my mind tho and do the first half early.
@misomiso82282 жыл бұрын
@@dannymalt Yes think there will be 12 issues. I just reread it and it makes a lot more sense on the reread it, though it's still confusing. For example at the end of issue #5 it looks as though Chloe has been killed, but she hasn't as she's very tough to kill. I really liked the 'Barney' twist, but I also think that the family were introduced quite badly in the first issue so it's always confusing as to what is going on. Equally Millar clearly put up some flags so they could be completed at the end of the series - the basketball playing son of Brandon, mention of 'Jules' as Otto's cousin etc. The Enemy is also confusing. I think the 'King' is dead teleported into the black hole, but we don't really know what's going on with that third planet yet either!!!! Apologies long post. TLDR will look forward to you vid.
