@@JupiterHikes Yes, I think they got a grant to find a route to continue that trail, the Larry Scott Trail. I heard that they found the route, but it hasn't been developed yet. I can't wait! Did you go in at the South end of Discovery Bay or further down hwy 101 at the Snow Creek road? Was it difficult to find the route into the Olympics? Thank you for your videos! They are superb!
@conortheirishguy43375 жыл бұрын
Nice video! I decided to ignore everyone's advice and stick to the route through the Bogachiel Rainforest. 20 miles of blow downs and overgrown trail, took me 14 hours. I met a ranger at the end who told me it hadn't been maintained in 12 years! The beach definitely made up for it

If I may offer a correction regarding tide times. One complete tidal cycle of high water to low tide and back to high tide again is a little over 12 hours; it flows out for around 6 hours and in for 6 hours ( not 24 hours as you intimated ). There are typically 2 high tides and 2 low tides in a 24 hour period. So if the safe time to hike at low water is at 1 am and you prefer not to hike in the dark, risking injury and missing the views, then you only need wait until around 1:30 pm for perfect conditions. ( The 12 hours is actually a simplification. 12.5 hours would be closer. High tide is around 1 hour later everyday ). Please check tide times everybody and stay safe. Too many folks get cut off by the rising tide.
@JupiterHikes5 жыл бұрын
Looking at the tide chart, you are correct there are two low tides in a 24 hour period, but one is significantly lower than the other and so many of these sections there was already a tight window of opportunity the 12hr tide wouldn't be enough and 24hrs would be how long we'd have to wait.

Did you notice the Marmota Olympus , in other words the Olympic Marmot different in color from the Cascades . I have done the coast back in the 70s From the Hoh river to 1st beach and also Rialto Beach to Shi Shi Beach . I have been here 62 years The Olympics are my favorite then the Goat Rocks then usually everybody's favorite the North Cascades . Yes Bring a Tide Book .

This might be a weird question, but where and how often do you get food from on a hike like this?
@JupiterHikes4 жыл бұрын
It depends on the trail! Most out there have resources online that'll give you an idea of how many miles between towns. On this hike specifically I was carrying upwards of 200miles of food at a time. Given your pace the amount of days can vary, or if you want to go into towns more frequently you could usually find some road to hitchhike off of. Depending on the trail it can be as frequent as every day or an entire week+ between stops

@JupiterHikes5 жыл бұрын
I liked the amount of cushion, and roomyness for my toes but had to size up a bunch to fit on the sides which wound up causing problems. Currently trying a new pair of new balances in the endless search! The timps were a product of what I could get in the moment that would be decent for the final stretch
