The bit about "dirtying up" the triceratops puppet was one of my favorite aspects of this scene in the film, as it made the dinosaur "real." Too often creatures in movies look too perfect and polished, whereas real animals in real life are often covered in dirt and scars and everything else. This attention to detail helped make the triceratops among the most believable dino characters in the JP films, and I hope that kind of striving for authenticity is continued in JP4.

Jurassic Park was the first movie I remember seeing as a child and I can just remember the awe I was in seeing this massive creatures come to life on screen and now 20 years later seeing how these amazing dinosaurs were made is inspiring. It's almost as if I'm experiencing the movie in a new perspective. You guys over at Stan Winston are honestly my heroes, I greatly want to thank you for making my childhood so memorable and simply incredible. You guys really do some fantastic work.

This could never be done in CGI. The effects in Jurassic Park were amazing back then and are amazing even today. The CGI and practical effects/puppets were used just in the right places so that the movie was to look as good as it can look. This is the problem of today's movies: CGI is used in almost everything but it should be used only if it is the best looking choice!

They did use a CGI triceratops for The Lost World: Jurassic Park of the scene when the herbivorous dinosaurs escape and trashed the camp after Sarah and Nick freed them.

Totally agree. CGI can be just as time-consuming and intricate, and I respect both methods, but there's something really special and unique and REAL about using puppets and animatronics. They both can be viewed as artful, but actually creating something with your hands just seems...better?

Triceratops is my favorite dinosaur too. I've been wanting to make my own Triceratops character for years.  But here's my favorite dino characters that are Triceratops besides this one: Woog (We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story), Trixie (Toy Story 3), Tricera (Fossil Fighters franchise), and Bakuryuu Triceratops (Bakruyuu Sentai Abaranger)

I was 12 when this movie came out. I remember it so vividly. The steps up the the cinema had velociraptor (I think) footprints stuck to them. I don't remember ever being more excited to see a movie.

To think this is an artists interpretation of a how Triceratops would look and then to think it was done so perfectly that there hasn't been a note worthy one done since. They had one chance to make these dinosaurs as terrifyingly realistic as possible and they nailed it !

Hey leslie13536, Some were disassembled and some made their way to museums around the world. However, all of them featured delicate foam latex skin which, unfortunately, deteriorates over time, leaving only the mechanical structure intact. -Matt

I really struggle to call them puppets, animatronics, models or toys. The people controlling the movements are actors. They have makeup artists rubbing dirt on them. They are real *characters* in these movies. That's the biggest compliment I can give you. That they felt like, still feel like and ARE characters that acted in a movie. And they nailed their parts. Really impressive work.

Do you actually know I never even knew how detailed the Triceratops actually was? And I blame you people for smudging it with mud XD I also really love the colors your artist used on her. The blue really suits the animal, and explains to a certain extent why the unreleased TLW Triceratops toy was supposed to be blue.

I always thought the triceratops looked the most fake, it's foot was just dangling there, it didn't really move it's head, even when people were approaching, it just seemed really really fake, like if it was dying, it may've looked more real, but just for a tummy ache, wayyy over the top of the crippling of it.

BritchesBumble57. Remember this is a DINOSAUR not an animal from now. If you want realistic quality the dirt would be on her because she had been living their her whole life. And a Triceratops stomach could expand if you look it up
