BestInSlot well really it was not over hyped it just people got some very big exciting dreams and expections also yes this was a good start of the first true jp Game in a while and with years to come it will be way better (I, myself say keep everything that was in jpog and expand on it instead of picking somethings and adding others)

you dident really mention nublar in the review. for many of us the most time we will spend in the game will be creating our own parks and trying to make them functional and sustainable just like site B on JPOG. it is however a shame that jurassic world evolution has only given us a clone of site A so theres no real replayability.

This review is leaps and bounds better than that from IGN, and I'm not saying that because this one is more positive. This actually felt honest, whereas IGN seemed like they just wanted to make as much money as they could with exclusive promotional material for the game before dropping it in the dirt without looking back. After watching their review, I was just thinking "Really, there isn't ANYTHING else that's good about this game?" They just exaggerated the negative aspects of the game and rated it entirely on that, nothing else. You are one of the best gaming KZbinrs there are. Thank you for the honest and well-made review and please NEVER stop geeking out about dinosaurs!

I agree. there are things that needed to be tweaked, fixed and redone before release. But Universal being like EA on release dates, they wanted it out now. They wanted it out before JW:FK. But dont get me wrong, the game is so much fun the way it is now, it just has more potential then what how it was released.

I think the repetitive behavioural patterns, no sleep etc. are important points to consider. It sounds like I won't really be able to play a Site B in this game and just have them roam free, like I could in JPOG, without having them rampage around and die of hunger - and with no real herding they will be scattered allover the place. Also, that T-Rex skin looks fucking amazing.
@user-kp5st2to1f6 жыл бұрын
That may be the case, but also understand that one of the main selling points for buying a Jurassic Park (world) game would be for the interaction with the dinosaurs. And by the way, he never stated it wasn't his opinion, not every statement has to be clarified in that manner.

I have put 30+ hours into the game since release (my days off work fell on the same days) and I have to agree with this. The dinos (and guest) AI is meh, I have a harder time managing the herbivores then I do with the Carnivores. They scatter and then get agitated quickly so half my time is managing them from tranqing them to preventing them from busting out of their enclosure. They have no sleep cycle and you HAVE to have a feeder for them or they starve (really?). Even with that, which I could and hope they address, I still fucking love this game and its absolutely stunning. Example: Miasaur in a group of 4. 2 wonder off in seperate directions. They rampage. Bust out of enclousure. Kill guests. Tranquilize them. Put them back next to the other 2. Rinse and repeat. Got so fed up I ended up putting 2 of them in the Dienonycus enclosure and the other 2 in the T-Rex enclosure and watched the onslaught unfold.

Depends on what you are looking for. I think both the IGN reviewer and myself would have like to see more focus on park management style sim set in the JP universe. I was really hoping to get Zoo Tycoon level park management and it just feels like way to much focus on the dinos instead of a larger system. A shallow consequence system mix with the fact that this reviewer say in the for minute that you can basically 5 star complete the game in a long weekend just doesn't earn a full price buy from me. Hope it goes on steam sale in 6 months.

+Wagner Music At least for the Diplodocus, I recall BestInSlot saying that there are some Diplodocus species that are smaller. At least for me, although I have not yet seen how big the game’s Diplodocus is, I would not mind having a smaller species especially since we already got Brachiosaurus, Apatosaurus, Camarasaurus, and Memenchisaurus. As long as the Diplodocus seems to be a decent size and has all the trademark anatomical features, I would not mind the game killing two birds with one stone by giving us both a Diplodocus species and simultaneously a smaller Sauropod to contrast with all the big ones. Still does not get Spino and Giga off the hook though.
@FlyingFocs6 жыл бұрын
Wagner Music Giga also? That's moronic. I'm okay with Diplodocus though, because as I understood, she's more long than big. Like 90 feet, but only 12-20 tons.

Great review, from the footage we have seen, i can agree with everything but i am not worried at all and nobody should be! I played Planet Coaster since it was playable, a few years ago... It was a bare bone wonky game, the smoothing tool wasn’t there, barely anything... But a few years later, it has turned into probably the best Roller Coaster game! I think that Frontier will take this criticism and work on it just like Frontier did with Planet Coaster... No worry’s guys!

@markcobuzzi8266 жыл бұрын
As far as perfecting the combat goes, I think these are all the things I would do if I had the skills, resources, and time (if one has time to read it all): 1.) Add a couple more regular attack animations for dinosaurs during fights when possible. For example, the T-Rex might also head-butt, the Spinosaurus might swipe at rivals with its huge claws, and Kentrosaurus might ram their shoulder spikes into an enemy too. 2.) Add a little more variety of finishing moves among different categories of large carnivores, plus maybe different moves for different opponents like you said. For instance the T-Rex could crush the throat of large carnivores, pin down a Ceratopsian’s head under its foot and aim for the neck, and clamp down on the skulls of stegosaurs and ankylosaurs alike. In constrast, Spinosaurus could snap the necks of other large carnivores like in JPIII and, while it may kill a Stegosaur in the same way as T-Rex, it will need to flip an Ankylosaurus-type dinosaur on its back first to attack the underside, since it lacks the bone-crushing jaws of T-Rex. 3.) Allow dinosaurs to form true herds/packs and allow the group-mates to join in and help. Like if you have a pair of T-Rex with a trio of Triceratops, and one of the T-Rex starts a fight with a Trike, then the second Rex and other two Trikes can join in the battle at once. The same animations will be used, but two of the random Trikes will also try to gang up on one of the two Rexes, since they have the numbers advantage. Those two Trikes will then mob that particular T-Rex at once, allowing its health to be depleted more frequently. This would especially be necessary if Raptors are to finally take on a T-Rex in a fight. It would also finally allow for Ceratosaurus to engage in fights with a T-Rex or Triceratops without the game having to make a single Ceratosaurus very overpowered for its smaller size. 4.) Allow the way dinosaurs chase each other with the intent to kill be a little more like JP:OG (whether it be a carnivore hunting or an angry herbivore pursuing a carnivore that is not leaving its territory fast enough). A T-Rex will chase a Hadrosaur and first reduce its health down with a few bites before then using a kill animation. Raptors will need to pounce on larger prey a few times as well, before one can kill it. Finally, I’d rather just have large carnivores sometimes chase down people or livestock in the same way as they would goats in JPOG, where the goat is still running even right before it gets seized by the jaws, shaken around, left to squirm in the jaws for a random amount of time, and then finally swallowed. They could still occasionally throw in those animations where the human falls down and stars at the carnivore, or the goat allows itself to be stealth killed by a carnivore, but those would be more rare. 5.) Have two additional stats that can be genetically customized, like maybe “fearlessness” and “intimidation”, which allows for more flexibility for which dinosaurs will be afraid of which. These stats will respectively determine the likelihood of backing down from a fight and fleeing (rather than fighting to the death), or scaring away the opponent(s) once it initiates a fight. If you do enough tampering, it should be possible to make something like a Hadrosaur crazy enough to try fighting back against a raptor pack (by stomping with its front feet or swinging its tail) or even a large carnivore like T-Rex (by head-butting or swinging its tail), rather than almost always fleeing on sight.

God, I hate when people use the “Do something better then”. It’s not my job to do so, it’s Frontier’s. I see no reason for JPOG, which was made around 2004, to be better than Jurassic World Evolution, yet it is! They had better A.I, better Combat, better sandbox, etc.

I saw a video where the guests ran directly towards a t-rex that had escaped. The t-rexes kept eating the guests with the same animation running over and over again. There didn't seem to be much penalty to what was happening. When that is the case, it is more about beauty, and not so much about depth. I prefer depth.
@MaddMattP906 жыл бұрын
you do get penalized for it. but not as severe and its effects dont last all that long. The herbivore rampages are more unique then the carnivore ones. And as it stands now, you will deal with herbivore break outs way more frequently. like on one island it was a 10:1 ratio herbivore rampages vs carnivore rampages. hopefully Frontier can tweak this and adjust things later on

Constructive criticism is the only type of feedback I like. If it doesn't put the former word in, then it's spartan-raged complaining to me (I might add spoiled, but that depends perspectively and I don't want to accuse anyone of it). Very satisfying for you to do just that Bestln, no bias or unfairness of the sort. Great video and review (especially that Spino sedation xD), I really hope you successfully spread the message that Frontier's an honest and genuine company that was simply pushed for time. They promised a great game people, and great things take time which Universal did not give enough of. We can't really bash them for things that weren't exactly in their control nor precisely fitting to their agenda. The Devs don't wish to scam us at all, not in the slightest.

He said you need to feed them still, the herbivores... and if the comfort bar is so sensitive there's a high risk that they won't be happy either with no enclosure with a "controlled" environment + they don't really herd, and have a leader they follow, so most likely they will just scatter allover the island. So overall, JWE was another overly hyped up game that didn't really live up to the expectations. Now don't get me wrong, I don't think it was possible to not hype it up as it was something so many fans had wanted for years. I was afraid the game wouldn't be as great as they were trying to make it sound like. At least now in the beginning. Hopeful that they will make improve on those things in the near future. However, thank you very much for the wonderful review. I'm actually relieved about that. I am disappointed at how tolerable all the dinosaurs are with different species altogether though. Even herbivores like triceratops should be a lot more territorial with other large herbivores.

Idk, I put several Maiasaurs with a T-rex and they were all killed within 5 minutes. Accidently incubated a dilo into my herbivore enclosure and watched it take down ALL my gallimimus (4 of them), and most of my Edmontosaurus (3 of them) before i tranqed it and put it into its own enclosure becasue of the dead dinosaur symbol wasnt going away

When I heard about a new jurassic park tycoon game being released i was really hyped. Long story short - now, one day before realease all the hype is gone and frustration kicked in. This game had so much potential. If frontier listens to its customers it surely will develop into the JP game we all wanted - but at this point in time this game just seems to be a huge let down, which roots from the massive expectations. In conclusion I will buy it after the devs reworked some design choices and put in more depth and detail...

It's really nice to hear your comments. I've been considering asking for a refund based on what I saw and heard in the last few days(the raptors not hunting in a pack being the straw that broke the camel's back). But I don't think I will. I think 30 hours of gameplay without the fallen kingdom DLC and upcoming AI/animation patches(which I hope for but haven't been confirmed) and the evident love for Jurassic Park by the devs make me feel exactly what you said. Evolution will be a better game a year from now so I decided to keep the game and offer my support(perhaps even try my hand at modding it).
@nomadicgamer94666 жыл бұрын
I agree about the raptors. What's up with this odd trend of people saying raptors (no matter the species) doesn't hunt or interact in packs?
@Bloodthirstier6 жыл бұрын
I think like BestInSlot said the development cycle must have shortchanged them a lot. Things like pack hunting or dynamic fights etc must have been low on their list. It's clear that they wanted to make the dinosaurs and the game in general look beautiful before they went in depth with the AI. It doesn't seem bad, just simple
@nomadicgamer94666 жыл бұрын
Hmm. Well the reason I mentioned the raptors was because of other games like Saurian that have a raptor (Dakotaraptor) act like a loner which I don't understand. So I was a little puzzled by this game's handling of the raptors. Only having them in pairs instead of groups.
@Bloodthirstier6 жыл бұрын
Pack AI is hard to implement. Especially pack hunting. JPOG did it to some degree but that was 15 years ago with less impressive graphics. Now you need to animate detailed raptor models and people want to see more than just raptors hanging on an animal. Especially since pack dynamics tend to change. I think devs don't wanna to try it out because it's one of those things that it's either go big or go home and most people want to exclude it
@bennettfender15466 жыл бұрын
Nomadic Gamer actually what raptors hunted in packs and what ones were solitary is up to debate if you ask me pack hunting was unique to deinonychus in raptors but that's just me.
@kyle8576 жыл бұрын
A short development cycle is no excuse for odd decisions though. There should be a day night cycle. Dinosaurs should sleep. Dinosaurs should be able to get at least some energy from local fauna. There should be more terrain types than just jungle. There should be more vehicle rides. There should be much more park and building customization.I could go on.
@wylie28356 жыл бұрын
No there should not be. Otherwise all the islands feel the same. Dinos could easily sleep anyway, no idea what that means. No it shouldn't, these are jungle islands. Why? I can see wanting them, but there is nothing wrong with the amount they have, same with everything else.

All of this seems pretty obvious going in, but it's sad to hear it confirmed. I'm still excited because the novelty of crafting your own park and caring for your favorite dinosaurs is exciting, but there's a lot of disappointment behind what could otherwise be a phenomenal game. I get the impression that it will be modified and updated in the future to improve matters like A.I, story, and the like, but there's the possibility that it won't be improved and that's a bit scary. I'm also dreadfully disappointed in how small Nublar is, as we were kind of promised a huge sandbox and - from what I can tell - there are two or three islands throughout the 'story' that are significantly bigger. I liked the idea of Nublar being a sort of oasis to build your ideal, dream park while crafting the five other islands around their specific challenges and the like. This game doesn't deliver on a lot of fronts, but the novelty still makes it feel like a worthy investment.

I'm super skeptical about main-stream review sites that just ship out high scores for big name titles. If I'm being honest, I was debating even watching this one because I just figured you would ignore any flaws the game had because you're a sucker for this kind. I'm extremely happy about this review. I wanted to know exactly what I'd be buying for better or worse. We owe it to ourselves to be honest and critique what we can about the media we enjoy so much (how will we improve if we ignore our flaws?), and I'm glad I can say this review did just that. Thanks for taking the time to give your honest opinion, much respect.

Great review. Informative, fair, and being from the perspective of a JP and JPOG fan, carries a lot of weight for me. I have faith that the goodwill between the community and Frontier will yield continued updates and improvements, and the game will only get better with time. Following JW:E's development has been a really fun ride, as it's clearly so well-loved by fans and devs alike, and my hope is that there's enough here at release to keep the game alive as that relationship continues to grow. Well done, you've got my sub! Keep up the great work.

THIS is what I was looking for. An honest review fom someone who has spend proper time in the game. Thank you very much for this. Still sounds like a fun game with enough Jurassic feel to it to give it a try. I really hope you are also listening, Frontier, and elevate this game from "good" to "excellent" with this kind of feedback. Certainly things like multiple animations for the dinosaurs and integrating a system to help build buildings on uneven terrain should be priorities to be fixed. The first because it's all about the dinos and the second because terrain management should be easy with all the experience Frontier should have from past game.

Personally I don't mind the repeating animations because other great games like god of war monster hunter and witcher 3 do it as well but they are still great. I also don't mind the spinos size however I would like them to fix the gigas size and also ad in herding and sleeping ai. outside of that this is a great game. Excellent review bestinslot please keep being awesome :D
@markcobuzzi8266 жыл бұрын
As far as dinosaur behavior goes, so far, these are all the things which I feel would make the game perfect, if one has time to read it all: 1.) Herding/packing behavior 2.) Sleep 3.) Have chases play out like in JP:OG, where the carnivore (or the herbivore chasing a fleeing carnivore with the intent to kill) has to catch up to its fleeing target and whittle the health down with regular attacks. Once the target’s health is near the end, then the kill animation gets used. 4.) Allow multiple dinosaurs to participate in fights. For instance, if one of the two initial combatants has herd/pack mates, then they will join in the fight, attack using the same animations as the one-on-one battles, and try to gang up on outnumbered enemies if possible. When both combatants have multiple herd or pack members backing them up, then the skirmish could look like an old Total War game, whenever infantry units of different sizes attack each other. 5.) Have a dinosaur’s comfort be based on the exhibit and not just as arbitrary radius around it. Maybe the radius around it could just influence where in the enclosure it wants to wander towards at the moment. 6.) Give players the ability to adjust two more genetically customizable stats, maybe “intimidation” and “fearlessness”, which would determine the likelihood of fleeing from a fight, scaring away the opponent(s) before the fight becomes “to the death”, being more controllable, becoming the leader of a herd/pack, and being popular with guests. If you tamper with those stats enough, it should be possible to make something like an Edmontosaurus crazy enough to try attacking a T-Rex. 7.) A few more varied fight animations. With T-Rex for instance, its regular attack animations can also include a head-butt, etc. and the exact way it finishes off a Triceratops, versus Stegosaurus/Ankylosaurus, versus Spinosaurus could be different. 8.) Give hungry large carnivores (or unhappy large dinosaurs in general) the ability to attack ranger jeeps and gyrospheres.

Thank you for this wonderful review. It had allowed me to confirm my decision to wait on purchasing the game. In its current state, the game does not feel finished to me and I’m disappointed with a LOT of the design choices, too many to list out, really. I truly hope that Frontier will see this video. Because you said all there is to say. Game looks gorgeous but it has many weird decisions in it. Those decisions prevent this game from being one of the all time greatest instead it turns in to a good game. This game can be amazing, perfect. It has the potential to it and things we don't like are such small details that can be fixed easily by devs even in one patch. I'm still hyped (bit disappointed tho) and pre loading right now. But what you said in the video, I agree with every single one of them. And I agree with you on trusting Frontier too. Please keep being our voice, please keep your unbiased, honest approach.
