Beautiful tutorial. I, on the other hand, being a new player found this incredibly helpful since you don't particularly need the latest and greatest vessel to get started (it generally helps). But I found that joining a newbie-friendly corp really helps secure some safe areas you can remain protected or team up to find decent enough loot to pay your way to bigger and better things on your own. Great tutorial, thank you for the help

What's the point of Jove systems if you cannot enter?
@JuriusDoctor6 жыл бұрын
Devs used to use them for testing roll-outs and new mechanics and bug fixes in production. And they held/hold certain special events there. It's just that the only way to enter those systems is if a DM or Dev uses the move command on you.

So you need to be able to cloak (be omega) in order to Explore safely?
@ptdafool33724 жыл бұрын
I haven't scanned all the comments, so apologies if this is old news now, but I find a few things that immensely speed up scanning speed (very important as you don't want to be pinned down for too long scanning, particularly in j-space and nullspace). Use the mousewheel (bound by default) to change your scan area. Hotkey B by default scans. Using hotkeys and the mousewheel will speed things up a lot for you increasing your isk per hour, but more importantly letting you scan things down quickly and get moving again. Double-click changes perspective and allows you to move your probes back to centre asap. If you're in j-space (wormholes), 'V' is the default for d-scan. Keep spamming this when you're in j-space to see as best you can who is around. TLDR; hotkeys - use them - it'll save you time, and can be the difference between losing your ship or being able to bug out before you get scrammed (and likely killed shortly after). There's others I've not mentioned such as opening the map and probe-scanner (mentioned already in the vid). To get to know them you can often mouse-over and wait for the tooltip which shows the hotkey there (i think it shows what is currently bound if you're not sure, and it's different to default). Hope these tips are useful. Fly safe :)

Why decloak before warping in?
@JuriusDoctor5 жыл бұрын
Because there's nothing worse than warping in cloaked, bouncing off something and decloaking, and not having time to recloak when a Pilgrim or something else decloaks inside of lock range of you. If your cloak cycle is ready to go again, two things happen: 1. You have a higher chance of burning off in a direction away from collidables with an MWD pulse and recloaking; You're more likely to get impatient hunters to reveal themselves before your guard is down.

You recommend Covops and Cloaking V for the astero at 8:40 despite cloaking V being useless and the hull not getting a Covops bonus...
@JuriusDoctor5 жыл бұрын
Yes, because it's a great exploration ship. A Covert Ops cloak requires Cloaking IV, and you can go into warp with a Covert Ops cloak. Cloaking V reduces the targeting delay an additional 10% after cloaking, which is useful if you refit for combat; you can carry a mobile depot and a combat refit as needed.

So... Ive been a new player for a few months and have about 6.5mil skill points... after selling plex for isk - i figure id give exploration a shot as an alternative to ratting in a VNI... I guess this video is informative to a player that has more than gotten their feet wet but needing more to do solo. I cant yet compete with those that have more experience in pvp but bottom line you need isk to do nearly anything. I find you need to invest in plex if you want to expedite any training that can be a total grind. Thanks for an overview and hope my comments help newer players with some direction to obtaining that Aestro
@JuriusDoctor7 жыл бұрын
I'm not exactly sure what you're saying here, Eugene. It seems you're saying "Don't bother exploring, it's too hard, just spend real money on PLEX and sell it for ISK and skill inject." Which is, of course, not at all the point of this video, nor is it intended for an audience where that's the intent. Perhaps you can clarify what you mean?
@eugene18857 жыл бұрын
I think you entirely miss my point. And in reading others responses - I'm just relating to other new players commenting about how they cant necessarily start with the fit you present - and how I found that I had to progress in my own experience in expediting anything - or face the slow grind of skill training per your account. My point is simply relating to other new player experience where "exploring 101" is concerned - not everyone is going to be able to start out in an astero nor for you to get defensive and misinterpreting my comment...
@JuriusDoctor7 жыл бұрын
I'm not at all defensive. It's just that your first point wasn't clear. Thankfully you restated it. You can, and I have, explore in anything. Flying a ship which is bonused for it (e.g. Magnate, Herron, Probe, Anathema, Buzzard, Astero...) just makes more sense. If you're new and have shit skills and no ISK, you can explore in a Venture and use the money from your first two sites to buy a proper scanning ship. You're getting hung up on the ship I used and missing the point of the video.
@eugene18857 жыл бұрын
Jurius Doctor I thought my point was pretty clear to start... Your attitude and comments to players asking general questions don't endear you to anyone...
@JuriusDoctor7 жыл бұрын
Eugene that's fair enough. Quid pro quo, not everyone finds skills training a grind - as you put it in your first comment. I played this game for four years before talk of skill injectors was even a thing. There was no option to expedite the grind. Nor did I feel I needed to; for me, half the fun of exploring is seeing the stuff the art department has put in this game. There's a lot. Yes, it makes me money, but that's not why I do it. If you feel my using an Astero for this video is discouraging to new explorers, that's a fine point to make. But say that. Don't beat around the bush. I'd be happy to re record it with a T1 exploration ship, but I chose the Astero because it's a great ship and it's something explorers can look forward to flying. I think that, also, is valid.

@JuriusDoctor3 жыл бұрын
Mark, I'm going to assume that you're trying to ask, "Is there a tutorial in-game? Because you are clearly making this over-complicated. Why are you doing this? I have an idea." What I'm going to assume you actually mean to say is, "This looks too complicated and I think you're doing this on purpose to make it hard for new players, so that experienced players keep more of the money." If that is what you mean, and it looks like that, let me heartily say, "First, go fuck yourself. I care more about helping people learn to play this game than I care about your feelings. Second, why would I try to over-complicate EVE? It's complicated enough as it is. If you think this is over-complicated, you should have tried playing any time in the last fifteen years before things started getting explained. There was no instruction manuals when I started playing. It was literally, "Welcome to EVE. Here's a ship. Fuck you." I'm trying to make it easier for new players. So, again, go fuck yourself.

Jurius Doctor what kind of stuff can you kill with this like ik some sites in nil sec have guards
@JuriusDoctor6 жыл бұрын
The advantage of a CovOps cloak is the ability to warp cloaked and to choose your targets - but be wary of bait. The big thing is that when you're picking your targets, you want to choose ships which are ill-equipped to fight small frigates, and especially drone boats. Ships with smartbombs or which are primarily missile boats are bad targets for an Astero. So, don't go attacking Talwars, Corax, or cruisers in this fit. Basically anything which can easily kill a Tristan can kill an Astero.

Well, Aaron, it's not the access to the ships or modules which is important. It's the process of exploration, the hacking minigame, and so on. If you let me know whether you're an Alpha or an Omega clone, what race, and what specifically you're looking to try I can recommend a fit for your needs. All you need to do exploration is a ship (any ship, not necessarily one which is bonused for it - although you are recommended to use a ship which is), a core probe launcher, some core scanner probes, and a couple of analyzers; data and relic. At most it'll cost you 1M ISK to get into, and you can make that many times over each hour. Better yet, reach out to me in game, and I'll gladly do my best to help you out or point you at someone who can.

That was the intent; to add buffer without losing any base speed.
@DimitriBoyarski7 жыл бұрын
... In simpler terms one adds armor at expense of agility, the other adds agility at the expense of armor... So the combination is a bit pointless. Forget tank on exploring ship. Strap 4 warp core stabs and try not to get blobbed, better use rig slots for data/relic analyser boosters so that you're safer by hanging arround less. Also use cov ops ships. same bonuses for 3rd of the cost.
@JuriusDoctor7 жыл бұрын
That's fair enough, but I usually keep a mobile depot and a combat refit in this one (hence the buffer), so your point is kinda moot in my case. Yes, you can use CovOps ships, which are cheaper, if you're looking to just ninja explore and hack data and relic sites. But if you also want to be able to fight, you can use the Astero or Stratios and get very solid PVP going.
