#ICYMI, here’s what you need to know about the upcoming Jurong Region Line (#JRL)! 💡
Once completed, travelling to and from home and work or school in the west will take around half the time of what you’re used to now 😉 Don’t we all love a more connected Singapore? 🤝💙🚅

Sincerely hope JRL gets extended to Haw Par Villa or beyond to bring direct access to the CBD and provide an alternative route to the city for western SG residents

Oh, but it does get extended from Jurong all the way to Haw Par Villa. In fact, they just started soil investigating.

Honestly, the Jurong Region Line has several achievements: 1. Economies of scale: in the Bahar Junction arrangement, this is the first of its kind in the world. It really saves a lot of valuable land, as otherwise there would have to be elevated service tracks running between JW1 Gek Poh and JW5 Jurong West. Long-distance travelers would not mind doing cross-platform transfer or transferring via a walkway, like in Raffles Place (EWL to NSL) and in Orchard (TEL to NSL) (if I'm not wrong, the JRL one is same-level one, so it's even more convenient than the TEL-NSL transfer at Orchard). Nonetheless, for the sake of short-distance travelers, I sincerely hope that the local bus routes 181 and 243G are retained even after the Jurong Region Line opens for passenger service. 2. Cost effectiveness: elevated costs less than underground, regardless of whether is it the construction phase or the operating and maintenance phase. Furthermore, the JRL stations will have solar panels. The JRL system has the potential to ownself recover the costs of operations. This is on top of the fact that the JRL would stimulate the residential, industrial and commercial developments along the JRL route. Therefore, the Jurong Region Line is a highly cost effective project. 3. Honestly, as compared to the Kaohsiung Metro and the Taichung MRT, the Jurong Region Line is no doubt a MRT system. This is the first new elevated MRT line since the NSEWL, and the first one to use the new generation elevated MRT line design (like the New Taipei Circular Line in Taiwan, and the Klang Valley MRT in Kuala Lumpur). Also, if you notice, the return on investment of the Jurong Region Line looks quite immediate, as the areas along the Jurong Region Line are already mostly developed, including the upcoming Tengah town. Therefore, although the Jurong Region Line may initially be just a copy of the Docklands Light Railway in the United Kingdom, The Singapore government has adapted the system in Singapore really well, such that it is more like bringing the system into Singapore and helping to promote the developments and improve the public transport connectivity in the western part of Singapore. Therefore, who cares if the Jurong Region Line is an afterthought or not. The Jurong Region Line is a project that will greatly improve the public transportation in the western part of Singapore, and promote the developments in the western part of Singapore. That is why the LTA even decided to go ahead with this project in the first place. I live in Jurong West Street 81, near to Tawas and Gek Poh stations. I look forward to the opening of the Jurong Region Line in 2027.

Why when it comes to Jurong citizens must save cost by building above ground? While all other lines get to enjoy underground? Jurong citizens pay less tax issit?

I don't get why this wasn't built as just an LRT line or even a Tramway or Bus Rapid Transit network. would have made more sense for the layout of multiple branches and would have allowed more flexibility, especially if it was BRT, because local bus routes would also be able to use it. LRT would have been better suited for Bahar Junction arrangement, but then again, a Tram would of carried more people than an LRT vehicle and wouldn't suck as much.

The design of the metro should not be limited to the line and the stations, but must also take into consideration the surrounding urban environments. These areas are quite car-centric with many extra-wide roads (6+ lanes), but that will no longer be the case with the arrival of this new solid rail-base transport system. So now the urban design of those areas should change, to create more pedestrian-friendly infrastructure: remove some lanes from the road to widen the footpath/pavements and build PROTECTED bike lanes. Like in the Netherlands, which excels in urban design. And if we consider that many bus lines will actually stop operating, being replaced by the elevated metro, then it becomes clear that Jurong area doesn't need that many lanes. There are only a handful of Singaporeans who actually own a car so it's not fair that they get all that space. So I hope LTA will implement these measures: *build wider footpaths & more bike lanes to promote cycling and walking*

NSEWL: Fully automated, mix (elevated and underground) of different stations but not driverless and served as 'six-car' trains NEL (1st) and CRL (5th): Fully Underground, operate as 'six-car' trains CCL (2nd): Fully Underground, the only MRT line to be operated by SMRT and the first to be served by 'three-car' trains DTL (3rd): Fully Underground (and currently the longest), the second MRT line to be operated by SBS Transit and the first to be served by 'three-car' trains TEL (4th): Fully Underground, the first MRT Line to be served by 'four-car' trains (based on the Malaysia MRT Kajang Line) JRL: Fully elevated and driverless MRT Line (the first for our network), second to be served by 'four-car' trains (based on the Malaysia MRT Putrajaya Line) Looking forward to the reality of JRL soon! @@thetrainotaku CRL have several 'disadvantage' to our network compared to JRL, firstly: I wonder how the heck Clementi station would be built to connect with the EWL, secondly: Why is Pasir Ris station gonna be 'extremely' deeper than Bencoolen (even DTL not 'deep' enough for our underground stations or what) or TEL Marina Bay stations, thirdly: I'm worried about the 'nature reserve' section from Bright Hill to King Albert Park and 4th: I wonder why CRL is now a 'high capacity' line compared to TEL or JRL

I just love the no-nonsense approach that the LTA has taken to build this line: building it fully elevated, without any overcomplicated (and thus expensive) tunnels deep below ground. This will also be one of the most accessible line of the system, having really short walking times to reach the platforms. In the rest of the world people are getting increasingly dumber and pushing for transit projects to be built underground, pumping up the costs massively. There's no joy to descend tens of meters below ground to take a metro in a fully dark tunnel and re-escalate other tens of meters. And it's OKAY for these very useful transit projects to take up land, to be visible, and we should celebrate them! why should we fight to bury them deep underground?? Just for the sake of some "noise"? (which becomes negligible after the installation of sound barriers btw) And don't even get me started on "visual pollution"!😒🙄 Looking forward to the completion of this line!!😁😁❤️

Plus, the Rotem CJ151 moves at about 70km/h which is much slower and therefore quieter than the models in most rail likes that go at 80km/h. Sleep soundly.
