They discoverd a method to do it even faster by not tightening a few bolts and leaving a few tools behind the panels instead of cleaning those up.

@@nicolainielsen7700 Well, 737s include all variants, too - so why the distinction? Just because Airbus has a quirky naming scheme for the A320 family (in contrast to all other families)?
@nicolainielsen7700
@nicolainielsen7700 2 ай бұрын
@xBris As I said, it is pure semantics. I think that it's mostly a distinction in value proposition in this case, where Boeing aims to homogenise the 737 line-up, and Airbus aims to differentiate. I was just against OP posting the statistics in his comment without giving the proper context to people who might be unaware.

@@AllendeNL Oh yes. Better to find out now But this is not the kind of thing they except to find at this stage. It is not an easily rectifiable defect. This is a bit that keeps the engines on the wing. It’s not like the toilet door lock is a bit faulty or one of the overhead lockers doesn’t shut properly.
@colinpovey7923
@colinpovey7923 2 ай бұрын
@@Rasscasse It IS the kind of thing that they find in long-term testing. Several early 4-engine aircraft were found, after several thousand flight hours, to have problems that would not show up earlier. Lockheed Electra: Three aircraft were lost in fatal accidents between February 1959 and March 1960. After the third crash, the FAA limited the Electra's speed until the cause could be determined.[8] After an extensive investigation, two of the crashes (in September 1959 and March 1960) were found to be caused by an engine-mount problem. The mounting of the gearbox cracked, and the reduced rigidity enabled a phenomenon called "whirl mode flutter" (analogous to the precession of a child's Spinning Top as it slows down, an interaction of propellers with airflow) that affected the outboard engine nacelles. When the oscillation was transmitted to the wings and the flutter frequency decreased to a point where it was resonant with the outer wing panels (at the same frequency, or harmonically related ones), violent up-and-down oscillation increased until the wings would tear off. The first trans-Atlantic capable jet airliner, the DeHaviland Comet, suffered a different problem with stress, and again, one not found until the aircraft had been in service for a year or so. The main cause was believed to be that rivet holes had been punched into the fuselage Instead of being drilled) and that the passenger windows were too square, meaning the corners were too sharp. These conditions led, it turns out, to stress starting and concentrating at those points, and with enough stress, the fuselage would crack open and then come apart in mid-flight. This is why commercial aircraft today undergo thousands of hours of testing, to find problems like these before the aircraft is put into service. Like the 777X and engine pylons.

Time for a baseline reality check "Boeing raised its 737 production rate to 47 per month in Q3 2017 from 42 previously, and plans to increase it further to 52 during 2018.Jan 26, 2018". These planes all came directly off of the Renton final assembly line. Renton did not have a stockpile of partially built planes in parking lots spread over the west coast to pull from in those days. The question is how many planes are being delivered on schedule directly from the commercial final assembly line(s) in Renton. Now, ask yourself the next question: What is the production efficiency of todays actual rate (somewhere undrer the 38 per month FAA cap restriction) versus the actual once realized rate of 47 planes per month or even the higher once planned capacity rate of 52? 737 program once represented 60% of all commercial cash flow revenue. Bottom line, in those days, it paid the bills!

Overall, Boeing has a better safety record than Airbus. All the recent problems have occurred with the 737 MAX series. Earlier Boeing 737's, and other Boeing Aircraft, have fine safety records. Airbus has had some doozey failures, like when an A320 flew into a mountain at night, because the pilot put he aircraft into the wrong mode of autopilot, and the only indication was a comma on a screen, instead of a period. No joke. That resulted in everyone but one kid dying in the crash, and eventually, 42 changes to the A320.
