Great video! I've got 13 years experience with the L series and these are my takeaways. Standard right side grab handle........finally!! Love the hood slant forward. Glad they didn't move the loader handle to the fender like the LX. 👍The PTO button looks like it will be in the way....that should be on the dash. 👎 As you mentioned, brakes above the treadle are impossible to use simultaneously to help turn the tractor, but let's face it, using brakes independently to turn tight is a farmer row crop thing and will tear up lawns and pastures. It will be weird to use your left foot for braking since most everyone drives an automatic transmission in their car/truck. Rubber floor mats are awesome. Can the hood open without tilting the cow catcher forward? I didn't see vents in the hood like the L3901. Any upgrades to the toolbox? I'm not sold on that whole new bucket thing. All in all, price would drive my decision on a new L3901 vs L3902. I still think the L3800HST is the perfect tractor though. 💪

Thanks for sharing this Tim. I have been blowing the trumpet about the brake pedals and the hydrostatic rocker pedal being that close together and on the same side. I have the Kubota L2501 gear drive. The DT version. I am kind of alone out here as it seems everyone flocks to the hydrostatic version. I really love mine. The one thing that I really like is that the pro is not independent. When I brush hog, if I get into really heavy stuff, by stabbing the clutch, it kills the power to the pro and saves shearing pins. That has been a huge plus for me. My application is different from most but it really works very well for me. By doing this, Kubota I think has hit a home run. They can now satisfy both ends of the spectrum. Old gear jammers like me and the newer generation of those who enjoy the technological advances of time.

As a former BX owner & now a Deere 2032R owner all I can say I still love Kubota & seriously looked at the LX for my BX replacement but I cannot stand the treadle pedal. On the BX it wasn't to bad since the mechanism went below the floorboard but on all other Kubotas it's entirely above the floorboard. Deere picked up a sale because the twin touch pedals are so much more easier. I really wished Kubota offered a conversion kit. Even if I had to pay out of pocket they would have gotten a sale if they did.

@Steve Mac dealer support and location weighs heavily on my tractor purchases. In Delaware Atlantic Tractor (Deere) & Burke Equipment (Kubota) are the most prevalent with Messicks just up the road in PA. The BX setup wasn't that bad. With the treadle design partly under the floorboard it was manageable. With the rest you either ride your right foot on top of the treadle pedal which is highly uncomfortable or you gotta kick your heel out to an uncomfortable position & use your toes. The twin touch system which is just about standard on all other models is so much simpler & easier on your foot. God bless the Kubota owners who like it but it gives me leg cramps just thinking about it. Are you reading this Kubota? Please give guys like Tim, Steve, & myself options!

I went with a Kubota specifically because of the treadle peddle. I find it far more intuitive than the twin touch system. The Deere system operates the opposite of how you feel it should work.

I get the ‘opposite’ criticism. As in forward should be the right most pedal. I just can’t get the ‘more comfortable’ argument for the long treadle. Either move the entire leg, or hook the toe approach are both incredibly uncomfortable. Much more difficult than ‘rotate the heel’.

Beau gave some very important market data at 0:37 when mentioning the L series are the top selling compact tractors in the US across all brands. The way sales data is handled by the equipment manufacturer's association, a manufacturer like Kubota only knows their numbers and the market total. So to be able to say "top selling" means Kubota is over 50% market share in US compact tractor sales, which is impressive when you think about how competitive it is and how many brands there are.

The BX PTO is a manual lever wet clutch and is independent. The larger tractors still seemed to have a clutch involved for engagement of the PTO for several models it seems. Doing that meant you still had to manually operate a clutch pedal when engaging and disengaging the PTO is what it seemed to me like they were getting at in the Messick's video where the electric PTO would be prone to electrical switch/wiring failures maybe? I have no clue. I have no problems with the lever type engagement on my BX...and I'm sure those who have the button/knob PTO engagement probably say the same with their system...both engage a clutch in the transaxle from what I understand, one is just controlled by a lever the other is a switch....the only issue I see with the electric version is you have to go from of to on, there's no easy engagement like there is with the manual lever and/or the clutch...with those electric PTOs you have instant on, there's no easing into it like you can do with the manual engagement types...some implements that creates an issue with a shock load which will usually result in breaking shear pins if you aren't careful.

@wildbill23c2 жыл бұрын
Model numbers are very simple with Kubota. First 2 numbers are HP, last 2 are the series. Extremely simple. No head spinning required. As far as the manual PTO engagement there are a lot of tractors that have that, if you get one with a manual transmission it most likely has a manually engaged PTO as well. The thing many don't realize is having that electric PTO (it has nothing to do with LIVE or not) same exact thing as the Kubota BX manual lever, its engaging a clutch inside the transmission whether you are doing it with an electro-magnet or with a lever, its the same independent PTO design. You guys are thinking of the type of PTO found on like the old Ford N series tractors where everything got tied into the clutch which is a LIVE PTO, rather than independent. The yellow knob just does the same thing inside the transaxle, it engages the clutch pack for the PTO output. The thing with an electro-magnet engaging that PTO is you no longer have a smooth engagement, it goes from off to full on as soon as you flip that switch...some implements that creates shear pin breaking issues....both the lever and the electric engagement work fine, just gotta be careful with some of those electric engagement type PTOs as they aren't as forgiving for a smooth startup as the manually operated ones, and the ones that require you to manually use a clutch pedal to ease them into engagement. It has nothing to do with old technology...the concept is the same, just an electric engagement over a manually operated clutch, and you lose the ability to slowly and steadily engage it but if you have your throttle low enough when you hit the switch, supposedly it'll be fine, but I've heard of people still breaking shear pins on stuff like brush hogs, tillers, that type of stuff. I don't mind the manually engaged PTO on my BX, but the switch probably would be fine too as my implements have slip clutches rather than pins, so probably wouldn't be a huge deal either way in my case.

Personally, I like having a clutch and a very simple mechanical design. Sounds like their corporate has thought things through. As a tractor owner of the 2501 I am glad they left that model alone! Buyers who are willing to pay for emissions and for more power will quite likely want more features, buyers like me who refuse to own Diesel engines with complex and expensive emissions systems quite likely will be more drawn to a more simple and affordable mechanical design overall. The two times I’ve used my steering break I used my other foot or my right heel and toes it’s awkward but worth it to have a clutch and still have steering breaks in my opinion. If I understood correctly the dt model still uses the clutch for the pto and kills it when you push in the clutch that’s a problem in my thinking. Competition leads to innovation. If competitors get together competition declines. Consumers benefit from more competitors not fewer. In any case just say the managers, the engineers, the production staff, the designers from Kubota and John Deere got together to just say improve the John Deere 3e series, how would this work? Would Kubota as part of the deal agree not to sell standard L series tractors anymore? Would Kubota start selling their own version of the improved 3e? A very similar system was tried with car manufacturing in Australia in the mid to late 1980s to mid 1990s. At the time General Motors, Ford, Toyota, Nissan and Mitsubishi were the main car manufacturers in Australia. The government forced them to come together and work together. The end result was Holden started selling Toyota’s and vice versa. Ford sold Nissan’s and vice versa and so forth. It did not work in that the Ford sold by Nissan was never as popular as the Ford sold by Ford. After around 10 years they all gave up and no one was terribly upset by that. 20 years later car manufacturing ceased in Australia.

@@oklahomachris6298 aren't manufacturers doing this already? If we compare a tractor sold in 2022 to 2002 there will be some improvements and most probably the 20 year old tractor was not a complete piece of garbage when it was sold to a customer. So improvements over time are marginal. I think the greatest issue with tractors is their general design. They are built on solid frames with little to no suspension. As a result they cannot handle bumps and dips very well. Some companies like Antonio Carraro have built tractors to handle rough ground but most tractors are built like they will only operate on perfectly smooth and level ground. No one would buy a car with wheels mounted on solid axles and no suspension. It would be interesting if a company like Kubota built a hillside tractor, one that is designed to operate safely on steep and rough terrain.

900 lbs in bucket! 🤣 I know of a few 1025R's that can lift more than that!
@aarondillon38802 жыл бұрын
That is at the maximum lift height of 94 inches. Breakout on these loaders is over 1850 pounds 500 mm out from the pivot, and capacity is 1175 lbs 500 mm out from the pivot at 1500 mm, or just shy of five feet. So don’t be confused by the 900 lbs, a 1025 is well over a foot shorter than that anyway.

A few other things they should have improved besides loader capacity. Fuel filling on the hood still!? Is it 1980? Loader control not fender mounted? Don’t know any other tractor brands still doing loader mounted controls. Arm rest and grill guard are an option on a 30k tractor? Come on now. That and extendable link arms should be standard on a tractor this expensive. Kubota is basically the Toyota of the tractor world. Dead reliable, but 20 years behind on technology. Toyota did finally update the tundra after 15 years 😂

You don’t use the steering pedals, unless you have to right feet!!!
@nfisheremti2 жыл бұрын
the split brake is pretty much useless (i have an L3800). going forward it's possible to use it by putting your heel on the treadle pedal, and moving your toes for left and right, but the angle is so high, it's far from comfortable. backwards you'd need some clown shoes. i've tried stabbing the brake with my hand, but now my head is below the dash, and it's pretty hard to do. if you need to use the bucket control at the same time..... i've added my own modified cruise control, that works forward and backwards (it just uses a stiff hand lever attached to the treadle linkage. now i use my left hand instead of the pedal, and then my right foot works the split break while my right hand uses the bucket control. since i mostly use the spit brake to steer when i'm using maximum down pressure on the bucket (front wheels off the ground- ice breaking, tough digging), i don't need another hand for the steering wheel. it's a pain in the butt though. i only use my clutch for starting, PTO engage, and to make range select work a little smoother.

No, you are correct. 900 lbs is the capacity at the maximum lift height of 94 inches, but that is also 500 mm or 19.5 inches forward of the pivot pin, which is where all loaders should be rated. Very few people actually need a capacity of that amount, at that height. Where these loaders will be used far more often, at say 5 feet off the ground, you can easily carry around 1200 lbs at bucket center and over 1800 lbs just off the ground. So don’t be deceived by max height bucket center ratings.

Sometimes it's best to admit you're wrong or change to something that is "user friendly" rather than pushing your product. i.e. I see others commenting on the "new and improved" PTO and it seems that is not what people wanted. I am with others, use a punch list of complaints and issues the real users have and stay away from Management "this is what you need" concept.

Car dealerships near us are still bare bones, though Dodge dealer got some stuff recently and it is already disappearing fast. I thought this was interesting regarding the Deere dealership as they had been getting sporadic shipments in and they would disappear quick. I spoke to their used equipment manager one night this late fall and she said that she could not keep up with their used portion of the website, and when they were at a fall farm show, almost all of what they brought was sold on site. She claimed they usually haul over 75 percent of that stuff back to the dealership after the show. Not this year. When I went to the Kioti dealer for an alarm, I got to speak with the owner. He seemed to have the problem Messick’s mentioned. No loaders for teactors
