There are so many underlying issues with this story. His mother keeps ruining events because he enables her. If their child has an accident, he won't be there either. He made a decision to call his mother and tell her, knowing what could happen because he benefits from their dynamic. He left his potentially labouring high and dry without a second thought. Plus, how on Earth would she know it was a heart attack and not anxiety if she hadn't been seen by a Dr? My lovely mother-in-law would literally have a heart attack and not tell us for days if I was in labour. My husband would call his Dad, a friend of my MILs and an ambulance if that happened. To be fair, and kind of the point Lauren made, most people would feel entrapped in a relationship like that with their mom. Obviously most people have a huge sense of care and obligation towards their parent, especially if this behavior from the MIL has persisted his entire life. He absolutely has a right to feel manipulated, because that is what’s happening, but unfortunately he’s still wrong because overall he’s being manipulated more so by his mom and not his wife. I think it’s fast and easy to call people gross when you’re only hearing the perspective of the person they wronged, but it doesn’t help people break down and analyze these intense family dynamics.

Salt, acid, fat, and heat are the four base components of cooking, sodium is an electrolyte, it’s what allows us to retain water. The danger with high sodium diets is that salt stiffens blood vessels, and this stiffening contributes to heart disease. This is a big problem in the US because of preservatives in food processing; if you’re cooking at home, using salt to taste is totally fine.

Story 3: Divorce him. I know there is a reoccurring joke on Reddit and on this podcast for how quickly we jump to divorce, but in this case, I 100% think that the OP needs to divorce the husband. I am married to a man, who is a recovering mothers boy. And let me tell you, if they love you, and want to get better for you, they will. I now know that my husband has my back 100%, and because he stood up for me, and started holding boundaries with his mom, my relationship actually got better with my mother-in-law. We have a great relationship now, and are very friendly with each other. The fact that her husband did not come running to her when he thought she was in labor, and now also knowing that her own mother passed away during childbirth….astounds me. I don’t know how you can come back from that. I don’t know how you can be OK being married to somebody who would choose their lying and attention seeking mother over your child and the mother of your child. I couldn’t imagine disrespecting myself and honestly disrespecting my child like that. Is he going to be there for your kid if Something Happens? Or is his mother going to continue to have fake emergency after fake emergency, and his kid will be put on the back burner? Again, I couldn’t imagine disrespecting myself and my child that much. Because if this situation wasn’t a wake up call, I am telling you he is never going to get better. I really hope that she does consider reaching out to divorce lawyers and seeing what her options are. Because if she doesn’t, she is in for a decades long miserable marriage.

I also think he doesn't want to be at the birth and is using his mom as an excuse because: A) he didn't have to call his mom before picking up his wife, B) there was no reason for him to ignore her calls when he was with his mom, and C) He was way too quick to say he wasn't going to be there. Labor can take well over a day, especially for first time births. For him to just say he'd be tied up for the duration was a total cop out.

Story 4: this is a lot more serious than OP realizes. I saw a few patients that had this specific delusion working in an inpatient psych ward. He doesn’t need an ultimatum, he needs anti-psychotics. One patient I remember clearly was even able to convince other patients that they should worship and pray to him. After a couple of weeks on antipsychotic meds, the delusions went away. He was a really pleasant person. I hope he’s doing okay now, this was a few years ago.
@soccersinger1019 ай бұрын
Honestly, it's safer to leave now before it escalates. Forget waiting for ultimatums. People who take themselves this seriously may see this as an opportunity for "punishment for rebelling." I couldn't even sleep next to this guy and feel safe.

My aunt was married to a man who had a psychosis issue. At one point he believed my aunt and cousin were devils and needed to die. He was hospitalized, received treatment, and was stable afterwards for decades. My aunt died of cancer and he remarried to a very "crunchy" woman who preferred oils over medical care. So he stopped his medication. He beheaded her a few months later. I couldn't understand my aunt staying with him after his initial psychotic break. Given the ultimate outcome with the second wife, I'd agree with the advice people have been posting that she needs to demand treatment and protect her family.

So for story 2, I get where you guys are coming from. I’m autistic and things like speaking, learning how to tie my own shoes, nail clipping etc. took me so long just to figure out in life. I actually had to go to OT for a little while because of it. And there were people like this, who essentially said I shouldn’t belong because I didn’t know how to do these things. So I understand the point you were trying to make. People may have different reasons for wanting to do things a certain way, or even have reasons to NEED to do things a certain way. We shouldn’t be villainizing them for doing these things because they aren’t able to do them. People like OP’s friend are why autistic people struggle so much with mental health and why they feel like they don’t fit it. And this leads to them wanting to….you get the gist. So I’m very glad I have the friends and family I do, because they are either are autistic, or they know what it’s like living or being around a person with it(because of me). So thanks for going into OT Morgan. It’s great to know that you were helping people that really needed it, and coming from someone who has being in a situation of needing to go, it’s so awesome and inspiring.

People who use this logic for excluding people should also think that every child with a tutor should just give up... However, I'm sure this reasoning only suits them when it's not their kid or some specific group they don't like. Ep. 3 44:43 shook me to my core. I recently broke up with my bf of 5 years mainly because he was so enmeshed with his mom and she interfered almost every aspect of our relationship. My ex would have break downs thinking he needed to choose me or his mom. He would be physically Ill all the time. She was also insanely manipulative and lying, most of my family was concerned for me. Story 3: I'm concerned for when the child actually arrives because how many times is he going to leave his child at like school because his mommy needs him. Or how many events is he going to miss out on because of his mother. This is a classic mommy's boy, he is always going to prioritize his mom even over his wife and child. I typically don't cheer for divorce for majority of these reddit stories however in this case I think a divorce may be warranted given how many times he is willing to throw his wife on the back burner for his mother's every need. I highly doubt the husband will set boundaries and will continue this behavior so divorce and full custody for the child 100%.

Salt is a flavor enhancer - balance is the goal. If someone like this guy doesn’t like salt all he had to do was ask her to set some aside for him unsalted or make a separate amount for him etc etc there’s so many ways to just ask for what you want rather than trying to force everyone to have it that way.

Why did story 3 tell husband she lied? She should have said it was a “false alarm” (an actually common thing). Make him feel like the a-hole he is
@catT52369 ай бұрын
Story 3: the husband is acting like ambulances don't exist. I know they're expensive in America but if you think someone is having a heart attack don't you call them an ambulance?! Especially as he wasn't even there, he had to drive over & THEN drive his mother to the hospital. My attention seeking aunt tried this sort of thing once, trying to get my mother to drive hours to "help her". My mother just told her to call herself an ambulance if she genuinely thought she was dying. Though my mother added it sounded like food poisoning because that's what it was, which not surprising from my aunt. She gave every single family member food poisoning at different (often multiple) times.

@@Draxxdemsklounst no, it was more that she'd improperly store food & let it go bad but use it anyway. If egg-mayo had been open in the fridge for a week she'd STILL put it in a sandwich.
