This build is like a reminder of what guys were doing when i got into wheeling. Building with minimal money and fabricating everything they could. The fact you are doing all the old school stuff and keeping it leaf sprung is way cooler then the others IMO. Yeah sure tossing some coil overs in and big axles is cool but this is like an everyday guys build.

Congrats on the win to the UA ! I love how simple and well thunked out this rig is. The two thinks I like best are the leaf springs and the 4.3. I think the 4.3 is the most under rated engine for off roading. Having watched Jeremy Rose wheel his leaf sprung CJ8 I forgot how well they actually work off road.

Dude you’re killing it on the build! All the builds are cool, yes… but you played by all the rules, (def made me laugh when you didn’t happen to have a set of $3k 2.5” FOX IFP coilovers “laying around”) lol) hence followed a real budget, and used your skills as a fabricator and thinking outside the box to bring a build that is not only unique but absolutely proved something super capable can be built in a two car garage with minimal equipment and expense! You got my vote 👍🏻

I almost always use flux core wire. My welder can use either one, just have to swap a connection. The reason is every time I weld with gas, I always run out of welding gas after hours or on the weekend, and there is nowhere to get any gas except during normal weekday business hours. Problem with that is I go to work several hours before the welding supply opens, and get off work after they close. So I have learned to use the flux core wire and make it work well for me. Y'alls build is coming along awesome!! So many people do not appreciate the comfort of a good pair of overalls!!

I have been welding sheet metal with my big MIG with .030-.035 wire. Tack tack tack tack for days. My buddy had me come over to his shop to weld in a new floor and some body patch panels in his truck. He asked me to help him set up his little Lincoln MIG so we went with .020. WHOLLY CRAP You can damn near weld like you do on 1/8 plus plate! After 25 plus years of using my big welder for everything, I now want a little zapper box (gas not inner shield)for sheet metal only. So freaking easy and way faster!

Love the build! One thing that I'm sure you are aware of, but is worth pointing out. Flux core is a strong weld (with the right settings obviously) and can be used for structural supports. Since it works well in windy environments it is often used by farmers for repairing gates and fences. Again, you are clearly someone who knows this and was just saying what you said to keep from getting hate comments about welding your rig up with a low amp buzz box.
