At TEDxTwenteU, Emile Nijssen talks about his ideas on creating technology to make the world a better place. He will also talk about Homey, which gained a lot of attention when the Kickstarter project for Homey got over 200.000 euros of funding in one month.
Emile Nijssen is a student of the University of Twente. His passion is to create useful technology. The ‘eetlijst-whatsapp’ tool and the ‘Raad de studie’ game are examples of his work. His latest creation is Homey, an innovative smart-home device that lets you control all kinds of smart devices in your house.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

THIS is a programmer, he had an idea, he solved a problem, he did something on his own, just because he can. This is the first REAL programmer I have seen on TED. Most of the time, they have speakers who come on stage, feed you some bullshit like "everyone should learn coding", or some other dumb shit like that. Most people who SHOULD learn coding, are already doing to, or are on that track already. IT jobs, and programming careers, are made by solving problems, by a desire to create, or just because it interests them. If you don't fall into one of these categories, if you don't have strong problem solving skills, then you don't belong in the field. I am glad to finally see a true programmer on here.
