Hello Chaz [ Everything Everywhere React with Chaz! ] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). Nightwish Shadow Unit from Estonia reporting in ! 6'1'' Dutch Valkyrie Goddess spotted ! Gabriel Bardac entered ! This is called Symphonic Metal !!! Floor her name is derived from the Roman Goddess of Spring, Flora. Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy. Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6). She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot. Plus, huge vocal nerd 😉. Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg, where she graduated in 2003. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016. From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon (Second singer of Nightwish after Tarja) as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour (And she had to learn the setlist in 48h). On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020. And the master of this magic is: Our Metal Mozart Tuomas Holopainen (founder, leader, keyboardist, songwriter and the main composer for Nightwish) Tuomas the keyboardist writes about 95% of Nightwish songs, music and lyrics. He also composes the music for the backing track they use. It is recorded in London with musicians from The London Philharmonics. Pip Williams helps with the orchestration. There are two London based choirs too on the backing track, the other one is a children's choir. And of course with a synth you can do a lot. This was recorded at the 2013 Wacken (pronounced Vahken) Open Air festival in Germany in front of an audience of 82,000 people (one of the largest heavy metal festivals in the world and one of the largest open-air festivals in Germany). When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: ‘Energize me’; Monolith of Doubt’ and Dreamflight’. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: ‘Misery’s no Crime’, ‘Wild card’ and ‘Disdain’. Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’ Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on KZbin. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa’ and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered KZbin in these years. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing Ghost Love Score at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish. Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of these and other presents she left on her channel. Also videos of her solotour she did with songs of her impressive career. Her latest endeavour is her stunning solo album ‘My Paragon. Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band Sabaton), daughters Freja (turns 7 years this march) and Lucy (born last october) ,a couple of horses, dogs and cats, she found this.

Yes Nightwish started in 1996 with their first singer, the very operatic Tarja Turunen who sang on the first five albums until her sacking in 2005. After a two year hiatus while the band recovered from undeserved hate and backlash, Tuomas Holopainen,the keyboardist and chief composer got it off his chest by writing the sixth album which was a departure from writing for an operatic singer and found a different style of singer, Anette Olzon who sang pop. There was a seventh album to accompany a film called Imaginaerum more suited to her voice but sadly she struggled to sing many of the earlier songs live and even had tuning issues with some of her own songs. In late 2012 she departed the band mid tour in the USA and they contacted Floor Jansen to ask for her to complete the tour. She flew from the Netherlands to the USA learning the setlist en route and in 48 hours was on stage. This concert is after ten months with the band and in front of 82,000 most of whom had never heard her sing with Nightwish and it took half of the first song, Dark Chest of Wonders, before nearly everyone was enamoured. She is known as The Valkyrie Goddess, standing at 183cms (6ft) tall and to all but the ardent earlier fans she is the most versatile, powerful, charismatic and empathic singer able to sing everything written for the band. Her voice is why so many new fans are switching on to Nightwish.

If you follow the "road map" Gabriel gave you you'll have a safe and pleasant journey, it's been tried and tested. When this was recorded Floor had been the replacement singer of Nightwish för just about 10 months. She did her first show in Seattle Wa on Oct 1st 2012 after the band fired Anette, their second singer. This was recorded Aug.3rd 2013. This song wasn't on the set list for the tour originally since Anette didn't have the vocal ability to perform it. But Floor had heard the song when her first band After Forever" toured with Nightwish when Tarja, their first singer, was still in the band, and she loved it. So Floor asked Tuomas (the guy behind the keyboards) if they could make it a part of the set list. And they did, it was song number 13 of a 15 song set. There's som minor variations in the backing between Floors and Tarjas version, mainly that the choir have been reduced in volume. There's a video on youtube from, I think, Argentina, recorded Dec15th 2012. And there's one of Tarja doing it too. If you want to know more about how Floor got in to the band I can recommend a documentary, also here on KZbin called "Please learn the setlist in 48 hours" BTW this was song 13 of a 15 song set.

Glad you decided to react to this band,This is with their 3rd singer Floor Jansen,a 6’1” Dutch vocal beast..They’re definitely a band that are better live,their studio stuff is good but it’s their live performances where they shine…they go from operatic though to rock,folk,Celtic and on to thrash and everything in between,hope you decide to dip your toe into some more..if you do then definitely use Gabriel’s list as it has the best quality videos performance and audio wise.👍

Everything about this concert was incredible. You won't find a bad song. Another wonderful concert from the same year was the Retrospect concert of the band Epica. They performed with a full orchestra and choir on stage with them. They are of the same genre as Nightwish, with a lead singer on par with Floor ( Floor actually guest sang during the concert), and death metal overtones in their music.

Excellent reaction! You won't see many cell phones at a Nightwish concert. The band always politely asks fans to put them away. Makes sense to me. How can you enjoy a concert you just paid a lot of $$ to see while looking through a tiny screen, especially a show of this magnitude. Might as well stay home. When I saw them, I had my phone out for about 2 minutes at the most, just to get a few pics and a 30 second video clip. Enjoy the journey!

Welcome to the wonderful diverse world of Nightwish. UK Oldies Division of Nightwish army here as a new subscriber. Hope you'll keep on watching and listening. Especially their live recordings. I saw them live at Wembley in November 2022 and it was the most amazing experience. To hear more from them, I suggest you follow Gabriel's list or pick and mix from it. I have followed Nightwish for some time now and have just about every Nightwish recording, live and studio and not a single track I don't like.

From my impression 2013 had at least two remarkable concerts: Nightwish headlining Wacken in August and Epicas Retrospect 10 Year Anniversary concert in March. Seemed to be a good year for Floor Jansen...

Hey Chaz, well better late than never, in the past 10 yrs more people have discovered this amazing band and singer Floor Jansen than the previous 10 ,hence they are the most reacted to band ever on YT and this performance of GLS is the most reacted to also as well as this concert which is not just one of the best from that time but I would argue ( having been to a great many Live shows with many of the greats)that this is the best Live concert I have ever witnessed and I was not even there ! Heavier songs from this 15 song headlining set : Romanticide,Song Of MySelf,Ghost River, the other amazing songs from this show are : StoryTime,EverDream,Amaranth,Bless The Child ,just to name a few.For me they are the best band and singer right now ,known worldwide but not so much in N.America sadly, be prepared your addiction is ahead ,cheers

The good news is that there is a looooooooooong list of Nightwish songs to listen (react?) to. Our General, Gabriel Bardac has given you a brief history and a list of their songs. Welcome to the "Rabbit Hole" that is Nightwish! The Valkyrie Queen, Floor Jansen, from the Netherlands, is a classicaly trained vocalist, with an amazing range and great control over the crowds ( as you could tell that the 82,000 people in attendance showed you! ) Yes, Floor Jansen is very tall...6' tall...maybe taller ...and gorgeous... as any Queen should be! I am 66 years old, and Nightwish is without a doubt the best band I have ever had the pleasure of listening to! I have not heard a single song of theirs that wasn't amazing! They are that good!
