I had to do that with a career. I lost a job that I had come to really enjoy and it paid really well. It went away unexpectedly. I went broke in the process and learned to rely on God. His provision came from places I didn't expect. In the end I found another horse to ride. It's a good job and it fits me pretty well. In the process I got closer to God, to my family, and found a church family too. My wife found her own horse (career) that she loves along the way too. Our future isn't going to be hardship free but it's looking better every day.

I am 83 years old. Cannot do a lot of the things I used to do, but do the things I can. I get up every morning and thank God for the free gift of eternal life. Romans 6:23. Then I make coffee. I thank God for my wife of 64 years. Taking my Harley to the shop to day for new tires and a little maintenance I use to do my self. But my poor old back just does not like doing those things anymore. I still do most of the things like changing oil and changing spark plugs and fixing any electrical problems. But the heavy stuff is for the young guys to make a little money from me for their service. Fortunate to have a good shop a half mile from my house. Appreciate your wisdom and encouragement. We all need it every day. Tomorrow I will do this or that, Lord willing and the creek don't rise. God bless you for taking the time for insight in what you do the cowboy way. You have a way of putting people at ease but also not to give up and do nothing. Just find another horse to ride. I like it. I retired 19 years ago from being a trouble shooter for a refinery pipeline. I had 220 miles of pipeline and four pump stations to keep running. Worked around pump stations with 1400 pounds of pressure on gasoline and 2400 volt pump motors. Lots of driving and worked alone most of the time.

@@jeffdixon5430 Thanks guys. I just got done mowing my acre of yard this morning. I live a couple of miles from a small town of 7500. Just thankful I can still do the things I need to do, and I will keep on keeping on until I can't. The Lord said, occupy until I come. That is what we do. I owe a lot to my wife who has supported me in everything I have done. When I was 14, back in 1955, I had an old 1942 Harley "45" flat head. I was at a track meet 4 miles away, and asked a girl if she wanted to go for a ride. She hopped on behind me and we went for a little ride around town. She is the one I have been married to for 65 years on June first. Best earthly decision I have made my whole life.

I am currently 19 years old. I have a decent job, I work with good people, and all things considered I should enjoy it, but I don't. I do not enjoy what I do and have felt for a long time that I'm not where I'm supposed to be. Ever since starting this job my mental and physical health have declined to the lowest point they've been in a long time. The whole time that I've been feeling this stress, depression, and anxiety, I've felt guilty. Most of the people I've confided in about my uncertainty, have told me that I should be grateful for the position I'm in, and this just increases the guilt. Watching this video made me realize that no position in life is worth sacrificing yourself. I think it may just be time for me to find another horse to ride. Thank you Dewayne. God bless you.

Ya know Dwayne, I did just that this past April. After planning for half a year, I flew to Japan to study japanese and just change things up for a year. Ironically I found myself being more bored than ever, and losing that excitement I once had. I'm flying home at the end of the month for that reason and a whole lot of other ones. Can't say I don't regret this, at least financially, but now I know for certain what I gotta do and how I'm gonna do it. Always, thank you for your wisdom.

Hello Dewayne, I live in the bitterroot valley of Montana and I’ve been following you since you were over in the Palouse. You and I are kindred spirits I think. I’m also originally from Kentucky and in a few days I’ll be turning 67. I’m not much of an internet guy so I’ve been nervous about posting comments. After listening to you in this video I just wanted to introduce myself and let others know that you are 100% spot on. After being away from the cowboy world for quite awhile I was ready to get back to this life, and it’s exactly what you say. I purchased 3 horses in an online auction over in Oregon 2 1/2 years ago. Everyone I know thought I was crazy but it has been extremely rewarding. It’s taken a lot to get past accepting that I’m not 25 anymore,And yes I have fallen off and I sure don’t bounce like I used to, but it’s all been worth it. Thanks for everything y’all are doing, you’re making a difference for folks.

Wow -- super impactful. I am young but for several years the wind has been absent from my sails. I have no excitement for my future except when Jesus returns, perhaps very soon. I was sharing a prayer request earlier this week that I feel like I've "missed my calling" "missed the boat I was supposed to take to different harbors" and in response to my prayer request the advice given to me was: there's still life in you so obviously you haven't missed your calling. God still has a plan for you, and that was really comforting to me. Made me feel like less of a failure. ❤ Made me feel like God hadn't given up on me or wasn't up there rolling His eyes feeling like He has to just "deal with me." Instead, He loves me. He has a perfect plan for me. He works all things out for good. ❤

I wouldn’t advise putting your life on hold because you think Jesus is coming. There is a very long history of humans that did nothing but rant and rave in town squares about how the rapture was coming that died without ever seeing it. Whether the rapture comes is God’s business and God’s business alone, it does you no good sitting around making plans for it & creating stagnancy in your life.

@@avril99887766 @avril99887766 Agreed. I am saying there is nothing for me to look forward to naturally. As he gives an example, he got himself a new horse to enjoy instead of reminiscing on the years gone by, and I haven't really done that yet. But I don't have much hope in retirement in this world, lol, unless the world repents. Mind you I am not on some mountain waiting for Jesus to return, because not even Jesus knows the time. But I am watching, which is a good and instructed thing to do with the wisdom that He may not come while I am alive. He also instructs us to "redeem the times for the days are evil." So we are to be useful to God, and working in His good work when He returns, not looking at the clouds having sold our possessions. I just need another "horse" to look forward to. Something earthly to enjoy, the natural fruits of reward, of hope, of future. And this man has found it in a simple thing as owning a new horse, and I think that's a wonderful example and hope. ❤️ Thank you for your comment; lots of great conversations here. ❤️

I’m listening to your message and asking myself the same questions; “what now”? I’ve had a good life, some might say a not-so-ordinary life. I’ve been successful in virtually everything I’ve attempted. College, US Air Force pilot training, flew in Vietnam for 2 tours of duty, started and built up a successful business that allows my wife and I to have all we want and need. But along the way, I lost two boys, one at 19 and one at 40. One remaining son and four granddaughters. They are the roses among the thorns of life. I’m not ready for the rocking chair yet, as Gus told Woodrow. I’m looking for new challenges, and hope to find one or more soon. I’m involved with my church, which means a lot to my wife and I. And don’t worry about where you might be at 77, the Good Lord will take care of you Dwayne. He has plans for you and me. I trust Him completely at age 80. He has saved my life on more than one occasion when the lead was flying. All the best to you and your new horse.

He’s been lame for half of it but I’m working hard to find the right farrier and vet to get us straight. Current vet and farrier said we can get him sound and they focused on his shoes and feet first and didn’t push injections so they seem to be the right people.

Mr. You aren’t BSn. Life can and does kick us in the belly at times. I’m 55. Just turned 55 at the beginning of this month. I’ve found in life that we get beat down several times, and I’ve seen people who just gave up, and others who “get another horse”. 🐎 Myself personally, I’ll never give up on myself or my family. I’ve had to start over 4 times in life. Completely. And at the age I’m at now, I think I’ve done pretty well for myself and my family. I find myself reminding my kids to never give up on themselves. They are getting into their 30s and are starting to experience life’s real ups and downs, but I’m there for them. Hey, anyways, I hope you made it back home safe and sound and with those 2 horses. Wow..I’ve listened to this cowboy for awhile now, off and on, and this morning this was the first video to pop up in my feed. It brought me to tears as I listened to his wisdom on this subject. I rode and showed horses for years and trained dogs along with that. They were both a passion. The last several years I’ve gotten strictly into dogs and as much as I love it I’ve found myself in the very predicament Dewayne speaks of. I’m a small woman but I don’t back down from many challenges and 6 years ago I rescued a tiny white puppy that my children and myself saw thrown out of a moving vehicle as we stood outside my daughters house. He was riddled with every parasite, internally and externally that a dog could have so I decided to vet him out and find a good home for him. That tiny, mangey puppy turned into a breathtaking 115 pound 1/2 American Pitbull Terrier and 1/2 Great Pyrenees (by DNA tests) that stole my heart. I blood trailed wounded game with him and he never let me down. In short, he changed my life when I found him and he also changed my life when I lost him 2 years ago. The hurt is still there in an almost unbearable way at times but listening to Dewayne today made me realize that the best legacy I can leave for Trooper is to “find another horse to ride.”

I recently pulled a starved old mare out of the kill pen, and she’s turning out to be my perfect “ last horse.” Not only me, but I think my mare, Molly, also found another horse to ride. Best regards.

Sometimes your messages help me with my life and sometimes they remind me that I did the right thing. Thank you, I was being too harsh on myself for things not happening in the timeframe I had planned (perks of being young I guess). This gave me a better perspective.

Well... I had hoped that I wouldn't need this video, but today I finally came to terms with some heavy stuff. This video was the kick in the chest I needed to finally admit that something's gone wrong and I need to find another horse to ride. God bless you, Dewayne. God bless you, your family, and this channel. With tears in my eyes and from the bottom of my heart, I thank you for everything your words have helped me do and helped me to become.

Ohh My Brother YOU did it Again ! Your video a while back telling us that you lost Ray 🥲, The Lord spoke to me . He was preparing me to say goodbye to Willow . I did not want to even listen as your kind heart shared how We had given the Horse a good life . Be comforted in that . Anyway, Willow is gone from my care . I was never able to buy Her . The owner wanted more than I was able to. Pay. This new video you just posted has made me smile 😊 I once again hear God’s Voice . Through you He is encouraging me to keep moving forward with Horses. Funny enough, I actually just began to sit on top of Bear ! He turns 3 in June . We are going slow and He is doing fantastic. ( I gave Little Bear to my Husband ). So like You, maybe I will find my Horse to call my Own . After 50 years waiting, your message gave me that hope . Thank you Both you mean a lot to me . Laura 💜

How incredibly appropriate the timing of this video was. A bit over a month ago I took a risk on an internet horse (broodmare) I drove all the way over to eastern Oregon and bought her. Turned out amazing, she did have some health issues that needed to be worked through but that is behind us now and she is the sweetest, most gentle tempered girl I could have ever hoped for. Exactly the bone structure, conformation and temperament I am looking for in the colts that she will hopefully yield. Very excited about life in general with her in it. A side bonus was I had a colt that was starting to get pretty froggy but I can't put him in with my other horses because they would hurt him badly or worse but after the new horse got out of quarantine I turned her out with him and she may be sweet but she takes no disrespect either and that little guy's attitude has done a complete 180 with her in his pasture with him. Very pleased with the results of taking that risk.

68 trips around the sun here, got down health-wise for the last 2.5 years. Had a hankering to oil up my saddles to sell, ended up buying a spirited horse, kept my saddles then bought two more horses. The three of them keep me busy and entertained. I found another horse(s) to ride. I understand completely and I'm satisfied.

This is one of the few sports/professions/hobbies that you can improve upon with age/wisdom. I'm 67 and am a better horseman/rider than at 57 and just realized there is a possibility that my yearling colt I am raising out of my good Poco mare and Shiney Outlaw might out live me so I better do a damn good job on him so someone else will want and take good care of him should something happen to me. At this age I feel younger when I get a younger horse to train. Add some speed and agility, grease your wheels and get another horse. Ride on Dewayne I know the feeling well.

"What if it (your new horse) goes wrong?" Get another horse. I turned 64 yesterday. My forever horse i got as a wealing when i was 50. I got her going pretty handy and my daughter decided she liked her better than her horse. Big deal, i can ride my old rope horse then tune my mare back up when my daughter is done with her. She took in a couple 3yr olds and ended up buying one of those so i got my mare back. When i took in a mule in to try out to hunt off of, same daughter slipped around and bought it for me. That was overwhelming and hard at the same time. I couldn't talk her out of it and realized i couldn't steal that blessing from her. I'm about to breed my 14 y.o. mare to raise me another mule to hunt off of since present mule is kinda small for me (I believe so anyway). I'll be around 68 when I start riding it but that's ok. A man needs goals, something to believe in and work toward.

Dewayne - I have been with you for a while and you’ve had a couple videos that pushed me to take a chance. I’m 56 and I’ve played in very safe up to this point. But as you said one time “they don’t have cool stories to tell”. For years I’ve wanted to be my own boss and it’s time! I will not die with the regret of not trying. So, I will embark on building my campground in an area I love! Your stories run very parallel to my life and this is the time for me to get out of my comfort zone and “find a new horse to ride”! Thank you. One of these days I hope to meet you. Take care and I hope momma and the family is blessed.

The last time I was excited by the future? Probably 15 years ago. For reference, I'll be 50 this year. Sometimes you finally get your fill of having the rug yanked out from beneath you. So you go through the motions, but mostly you wake up pissed off that you woke up. I've misplaced my give-a-damn. Its nice to see other people enjoying life and I wouldn't want to take that away from them, but I don't think its for me. Good-looking horses. Have fun.

Thank You for the timing and topic of this video. I’m very sorry for your loss of Ray. I remember the first video that you mentioned Ray and further clarified “like a ray of sunshine”. That is the exact phrase my Mom would remind me why she named me that. This entire video shed new light on a situation. While it could never compare to the loss of any living being, I know that it is time to retire my 02’ Mustang to the junk yard. I bought this Mustang as my first car. A neighbor down the road was selling it for $1500 o.b.o. I knew from the mileage posted, the price and already having a cracked windshield to fix that this purchase would be a gamble to carry me through just a few years. I lived in the country where transportation to the nearest business was a few miles, any car would be a luxury. I had saved enough money walking to work at the Coffee Shop for a few years and the thought of driving a Mustang really sparked my excitement. I could not actually be the one to test drive it as I had not yet acquired my license. My older sister was the one to really get the feel for the car as we rode it around and I sat passenger. By ignorance or eagerness nothing was detouring me from the purchase of this car. Despite the fact the angle of the passenger seat was lop sided and the transmission radiated a sound comparable to what many future passengers would say “taking off in a rocket ship” Definitely not in a good way. Which was probably why it never caught up to speed quite like a Mustang should which gave reason to it’s admirable nickname “Slow-stang” As you said in your video sometimes it can be the memories that hold us back from finding a new horse to ride. Last night at the time of this video’s posting I had just finished taking all the possessions out of the Mustang, readying it for them to take it off to the junk yard. Like unsaddling your horse for the last time. It has 241968.5 miles of destinations that it carried the owner’s before me. In the 38k miles over 7 years it took me the memories I cherish the most are: The first date with my husband was picking him up to visit my family for church in the rolling foothills of California. The memory of my uncle being so proud to see me purchase my first car. He wasn’t sure how many more years he would be around as he was terminally ill. He gifted me a Chilton Handbook of its make and model and insisted to upgrade anything cosmetic “to make my ride my style” While this may be an upgrade that could turn up an eyebrow, I really wanted to upgrade the headlights to the Halo lenses. It also really improved visibility driving through the country at night. The last memory I will always cherish is taking my best friend for a ride. Although her car was much better suited for a comfortable ride ei. my driving. I believe that she was just fond of Mustangs as her Dad owned a classic Mustang that would have been inherited by her, the first born, but for the time being it sat under a tarp. What we thought to be a good time was driving out to the far back roads to catch a glimpse of it. And a real beauty it was. This video gave me encouragement to invest into a new horse so to say. Be it a new career or even a path in life. My Mustang carried me many miles of learning what it meant to be an adult but now it’s time to find a new way to keep moving forward.
