I am 83 years old. Cannot do a lot of the things I used to do, but do the things I can. I get up every morning and thank God for the free gift of eternal life. Romans 6:23. Then I make coffee. I thank God for my wife of 64 years. Taking my Harley to the shop to day for new tires and a little maintenance I use to do my self. But my poor old back just does not like doing those things anymore. I still do most of the things like changing oil and changing spark plugs and fixing any electrical problems. But the heavy stuff is for the young guys to make a little money from me for their service. Fortunate to have a good shop a half mile from my house. Appreciate your wisdom and encouragement. We all need it every day. Tomorrow I will do this or that, Lord willing and the creek don't rise. God bless you for taking the time for insight in what you do the cowboy way. You have a way of putting people at ease but also not to give up and do nothing. Just find another horse to ride. I like it. I retired 19 years ago from being a trouble shooter for a refinery pipeline. I had 220 miles of pipeline and four pump stations to keep running. Worked around pump stations with 1400 pounds of pressure on gasoline and 2400 volt pump motors. Lots of driving and worked alone most of the time.

I owe a lot to my wife who has supported me in everything I have done. When I was 14, back in 1955, I had an old 1942 Harley "45" flat head. I was at a track meet 4 miles away, and asked a girl if she wanted to go for a ride. She hopped on behind me and we went for a little ride around town. I do not enjoy what I do and have felt for a long time that I'm not where I'm supposed to be. Ever since starting this job my mental and physical health have declined to the lowest point they've been in a long time. The whole time that I've been feeling this stress, depression, and anxiety, I've felt guilty. Most of the people I've confided in about my uncertainty, have told me that I should be grateful for the position I'm in, and this just increases the guilt. I’m listening to your message and asking myself the same questions; “what now”? I’ve had a good life, some might say a not-so-ordinary life. I’ve been successful in virtually everything I’ve attempted. College, US Air Force pilot training, flew in Vietnam for 2 tours of duty, started and built up a successful business that allows my wife and I to have all we want and need. But along the way, I lost two boys, one at 19 and one at 40. One remaining son and four granddaughters. They are the roses among the thorns of life. I’m not ready for the rocking chair yet, as Gus told Woodrow. I’m looking for new challenges, and hope to find one or more soon. I’m involved with my church, which means a lot to my wife and I. And don’t worry about where you might be at 77, the Good Lord will take care of you Dwayne. He has plans for you and me. I trust Him completely at age 80. He has saved my life on more than one occasion when the lead was flying. All the best to you and your new horse.

Wow -- super impactful. I am young but for several years the wind has been absent from my sails. I have no excitement for my future except when Jesus returns, perhaps very soon. I was sharing a prayer request earlier this week that I feel like I've "missed my calling" "missed the boat I was supposed to take to different harbors" and in response to my prayer request the advice given to me was: there's still life in you so obviously you haven't missed your calling. God still has a plan for you, and that was really comforting to me. Made me feel like less of a failure. ❤ Made me feel like God hadn't given up on me or wasn't up there rolling His eyes feeling like He has to just "deal with me." Instead, He loves me. He has a perfect plan for me. He works all things out for good. ❤

I wouldn’t advise putting your life on hold because you think Jesus is coming. There is a very long history of humans that did nothing but rant and rave in town squares about how the rapture was coming that died without ever seeing it. Whether the rapture comes is God’s business and God’s business alone, it does you no good sitting around making plans for it & creating stagnancy in your life.
@sparrowt40824 ай бұрын
@@avril99887766 @avril99887766 Agreed. I am saying there is nothing for me to look forward to naturally. As he gives an example, he got himself a new horse to enjoy instead of reminiscing on the years gone by, and I haven't really done that yet. But I don't have much hope in retirement in this world, lol, unless the world repents. Mind you I am not on some mountain waiting for Jesus to return, because not even Jesus knows the time. But I am watching, which is a good and instructed thing to do with the wisdom that He may not come while I am alive. He also instructs us to "redeem the times for the days are evil." So we are to be useful to God, and working in His good work when He returns, not looking at the clouds having sold our possessions. I just need another "horse" to look forward to. Something earthly to enjoy, the natural fruits of reward, of hope, of future. And this man has found it in a simple thing as owning a new horse, and I think that's a wonderful example and hope. ❤️ Thank you for your comment; lots of great conversations here. ❤️

"What if it (your new horse) goes wrong?" Get another horse. I turned 64 yesterday. My forever horse i got as a wealing when i was 50. I got her going pretty handy and my daughter decided she liked her better than her horse. Big deal, i can ride my old rope horse then tune my mare back up when my daughter is done with her. She took in a couple 3yr olds and ended up buying one of those so i got my mare back. When i took in a mule in to try out to hunt off of, same daughter slipped around and bought it for me. That was overwhelming and hard at the same time. I couldn't talk her out of it and realized i couldn't steal that blessing from her. I'm about to breed my 14 y.o. mare to raise me another mule to hunt off of since present mule is kinda small for me (I believe so anyway). I'll be around 68 when I start riding it but that's ok. A man needs goals, something to believe in and work toward.

Wow..I’ve listened to this cowboy for awhile now, off and on, and this morning this was the first video to pop up in my feed. It brought me to tears as I listened to his wisdom on this subject. I rode and showed horses for years and trained dogs along with that. They were both a passion. The last several years I’ve gotten strictly into dogs and as much as I love it I’ve found myself in the very predicament Dewayne speaks of. I’m a small woman but I don’t back down from many challenges and 6 years ago I rescued a tiny white puppy that my children and myself saw thrown out of a moving vehicle as we stood outside my daughters house. He was riddled with every parasite, internally and externally that a dog could have so I decided to vet him out and find a good home for him. That tiny, mangey puppy turned into a breathtaking 115 pound 1/2 American Pitbull Terrier and 1/2 Great Pyrenees (by DNA tests) that stole my heart. I blood trailed wounded game with him and he never let me down. In short, he changed my life when I found him and he also changed my life when I lost him 2 years ago. The hurt is still there in an almost unbearable way at times but listening to Dewayne today made me realize that the best legacy I can leave for Trooper is to “find another horse to ride.”

So like You, maybe I will find my Horse to call my Own . After 50 years waiting, your message gave me that hope . Thank you Both you mean a lot to me . Laura 💜

P.S. Question? How old do you feel a Horse needs to be before riding?

My Brother told me about your KZbin podcast. Really appreciate your home spun common sense. I quite thankful of your Christian worldview, but gosh, I really love the horses.

Dewayne this hit me right upside the head, I've been with my company 7 years and have been unhappy the last 3 or so. Waiting for a change or some sort of other opportunity within the company only to be told time and time again that I'm too valuable in my current position. But my position is mentally draining and for some reason I stick around waiting for something to happen. This makes me feel like it could be time to move on and try something new. Thank you pal!

Man this video is so apt for me right now. My only horse had a bad paddock accident, broke his pelvis. I rehabbed him for a year and we tried riding but it's too difficult for him. We were supposed to have a good 15 years of riding, have put everything I had into him and we were finally at that sweet spot to really start doing things. So I've been trying to replace him and it's not easy. He's gaited and his gaits were amazing. The types of horses I'd want aren't common out here. So I can find them but transport is pricey, not to mention horse prices are so high this year. So I just keep looking and trying to save money, but I'm trying to be patient and go with what I really want. I even recently now have Fridays off, and I have been so bored and depressed cuz I have nothing to do with my extra time, I just want to ride. (I'm in Oregon and what I really want is a racking horse, they are mostly in Tennessee area).

Thank you ;) I am still above dirt ! All I need to do is find something to keep that dirt under my feet and have fun. Not much on horses they are like women. There is a place near Maybell, CO called Sand Wash Basin where wild horses run free thats about as close as I like to get to a horse but I do enjoy watching them. It's realy to bad they round them up and put them corals to be sold some one like you would make a good home for any of them poor souls. Again Thank You for video and sharing.

That was a great message Uncle Dewayne. Live a little, take some chances, do things that out life back into you. If not, then welcome to a dull boring life. We love you Uncle Dewayne. See you next Time.

Sometimes your messages help me with my life and sometimes they remind me that I did the right thing. Thank you, I was being too harsh on myself for things not happening in the timeframe I had planned (perks of being young I guess). This gave me a better perspective.

I don't know what my life was supposed to be. I do know the noise of this world is so crazy, I just don't know how to plug back into it. This life, so far as I know is the only one I get and I got no guarantee Jesus is going to know me on that final day. I pray He does. For now, I am nearly 54 years old and I have been living on the ragged edge of life nearly completely separated from the things of this world. Nobody knows you when you're not plugged into the world. I have not been excited about the future for over 15 years and that bright spot died. I need the only kind of rest that only God can provide. I would love to be around people who live simply in Christ and simply but honestly in their earthly needs. Thank you for the uplift. I have not been on a horse in years but I'll never forget how that feels. Majestic animals for sure.

I totally understand everything you're saying, I've been riding from 6 years old and I'm 60 . I lost my horse from age i got at 17 years old. He was a dark bay thourobred gelding, he was 17.2 and his name was Shane. Im considering another horse 🐎 but for now im leasing a paint horse a woman bought from the Amish. Hes 13 years old and very skittish. She leased him to a young girl before me, who had him English tack and jumping. I just want a quiet western trail horse. I don't know yet if he's a good fit, im taking it slow. I hope he works out , but we will see.

Ya know Dwayne, I did just that this past April. After planning for half a year, I flew to Japan to study japanese and just change things up for a year. Ironically I found myself being more bored than ever, and losing that excitement I once had. I'm flying home at the end of the month for that reason and a whole lot of other ones. Can't say I don't regret this, at least financially, but now I know for certain what I gotta do and how I'm gonna do it. Always, thank you for your wisdom.

How incredibly appropriate the timing of this video was. A bit over a month ago I took a risk on an internet horse (broodmare) I drove all the way over to eastern Oregon and bought her. Turned out amazing, she did have some health issues that needed to be worked through but that is behind us now and she is the sweetest, most gentle tempered girl I could have ever hoped for. Exactly the bone structure, conformation and temperament I am looking for in the colts that she will hopefully yield. Very excited about life in general with her in it. A side bonus was I had a colt that was starting to get pretty froggy but I can't put him in with my other horses because they would hurt him badly or worse but after the new horse got out of quarantine I turned her out with him and she may be sweet but she takes no disrespect either and that little guy's attitude has done a complete 180 with her in his pasture with him. Very pleased with the results of taking that risk.
