You have perseverance and articulation that I wish I had. When confronted or intimidated, I become muddled. I'm Gen X, I was taught that little girls should be seen and not heard, and never talk back to elders. Oh and believe me, this didn't serve me well as an adult. I lost count of the amount of times that the G4S employee said the same things over and over again ...protesting that he wasn't going to argue with you, while actually arguing with you! Quite frankly, I would probably have come to a very early decision to ignore them all. No matter where the Job Centre is located in this country (with just a handful of exceptions), these minimum wage, ill-trained and ill-informed men in black, perform like a dreadful and nasty disease in society. Why is it left to people such as you, PTTP, to educate and exercise our rights, that some very distasteful people are trying to take away? No one, to date, has managed to stay longer than 3 minutes in the Derby Job Centre, housed in the City Council building, for even walking in with a camera. They are immediately pounced upon, man-handled and frog marched back from whence they came. It's really difficult to watch this and not feel disgusted, shame towards our public services and an alarming sense of injustice.

That is Very True. The job centre in Derby has the most Aggressive security team I've witnessed. Security guards have intervened in a conversation between a service user and job advisor where the service user was complaining to the staff member and security intervened, and frog marched the service user out. Derby security staff are aggressive and rude.

We all have a duty to behave in a cordial way, no matter where we go, this is how we remain decent human beings. Yes, policy is exactly the same throughout all our public services ... if only the staff followed that policy instead of being confrontational, aggressive and obnoxious.

I suspect (like many other jobs e.g. parking warden, waiters, bus drivers) it's not attractive to those with better qualifications - and so it's more likely to draw those from a poorer background (but willing and able to work) - that will feature more folk from ethnic minority backgrounds.

Fair question mate. First of all, the governing security body (SIA) gives security licenses away like it's nothing. They're easily obtainable and people don't need any experience nor qualifications to get one. Additionally, these are low paid/long working hours contracts, hence the average Brit won't apply and people from an ethnic background (British born or Non British born minorities) generally take these jobs. Lastly, Birmingham, London, Manchester, etc has a higher population of minorities so you'll see more security guards of an ethnic decent rather than in other parts of the country where you'll come across working class white security guards. Hope this answers your question somewhat.

You have been lied to, lead down the garden path, shoved under a stone and covered with sh1t, if the law protects those in that building, which it does, then in the same way that Just Stop Oil protesters can express a freedom and be arrested for it because they are breaking the law, do you think others who break the law whilst expressing a freedom should also be arrested? If you cannot follow the basic law that gives you a right to express a freedom, should you be able to express that freedom when it takes a right from everyone else? And that is EXACTLY what auditors are doing to your rights, removing them.

Job centres have tried to appear more open and approachable by having open plan layouts, but this is at the risk of data protection breaches. It was probably better to have staff behind bank style counters and have less security guards. Security guard to claiment ratio is about 5:1. Something is wrong with the system.
