Thank you, Jerry! ❤ Let the haters be haters. China isn't perfect so is every other country. When China was poor, the haters looked down on it; now China is improving drastically economically and militarily, the haters hate it. There is absolutely nothing China or the Chinese government can do to please them or change their mind on China. Their opinions don't matter either. China or the Chinese government has more important things to work on.

They looked down on China when the country is under extreme poverty, thn when things change for good they blame the Chinese gov for not easing immigration/PR for the non-chinese to assimilate with local. What's worst? Some expat living in Shanghai demand the local government to change the school policy to have English as main medium teaching so that he can bring all his children to stay in China. Mate, this is so true. I'm an Aussie White Male and I visited China. I was absolutely pleasantly surprised at how advanced China is. Nothing like what we are told back home. People need to visit China. I also visited USA. I was sadly disappointed with USA ... the richest country in the World, and with the most neglected Citizens in the World. Too many Civic Infrastructures in need of repair or replacement and their Civic Services were way to expensive for the majority of citizens.

Well spoken Jerry. I can back everything you said up, living the last 19 years in China. Every friend, family member, business partner who visited me in China left with a much more positive image from China. I went back to Europe in spring for a visit. People asked me if what they heard or read about China was true. If I told them it was not true, they were puzzled. Even people I have know 40-50 years I could not always convince that they saw or read propaganda lies.

I consider myself to be open minded and intelligent. But it hasn't been easy for me to get a clear understanding of China. You see, for a very long time I was not interested in what was going on in Asia at all, having more than enough with trying to keep abreast with events in my part of the world South America. But some 8 years ago I started to suspect that my views on China were shallow and dated, and more influenced by western media than I liked. So I began to actively try to educate myself about China. It took me almost a year just to find a group of online sources that seemed reliable enough to follow more closely. Then I looked for books for a deeper understanding and was lucky enough to stumble upon Mahbubani and Martin Jacques early on. After a while I realized that the speed of change in China was so tremendous that some stories I read were totally dated just after a few years. My breakthrough in understanding only came when I started to follow closely the incredible feat of the 2020 last legs of the extreme poverty erradication program. Yes! It worked! It was nothing like the IMF/WB poverty alleviation projects I had seen fail again and again in Africa and south America over the years. Yes! It was working in China because it addresses all the intertwined causes of poverty at the same time. That was the moment when I truly understood the scale and functionality of the Chinese revival. I am too old and too poor to hope to visit China in my lifetime, but I am very happy to follow its development from afar. And your channel has been very useful for me. Thanks for your tireless efforts.

In the 80s, in comparison, I was impressed by the balanced Western media reports, the confidence and tolerance of the Western governments. It is a complete different West now. I think things have started to turn bad from the Reagan era. History will prove the Reagan economy is a short sighted policy. The rich gets richer and poor will remotely get a chance. The media and the politicians lie through their teeth. The traditional goods have gradually become the past.

Singapore isn't "way behind China". Their infrastructure is new. Singapore's main infrastructure is at least 30 or 40 years old. They also have 300 times more people than us, and that affects their output and their talents. They have some innovative ways that are ahead of us, and we have some systems ahead of them. It is not really fair to compare. But whatever it is... we should be proud of what China has achieved, and that they modelled themselves after Singapore.

They had to start somewhere. With something for a target, a benchmark and a guide. I am from Malaysia and I know how good is Singapore. In the earlier days, Mr. Deng Xiaoping's (who was the leader of China that time), visited Singapore who was under the leadership of Mr. Lee Kwan Yew. He had a vision that China should become as good and as democratic as Singapore or even better, no less. And now, China had reached their target on zero absolute poverty and I hope they will continue to keep up the good work. And we pray that the next China's leader after Xi Jinping will not be a nut head that will spoil the soup by being aggressive and violent. Long live China. Long live Singapore.

It's getting so sickening to keep hearing the typical quip against China... "Cheap and low quality products"... then they change their tones to (when you say there's good quality products) "Oh they steal and copy" ... and then they change their tones to (when you say there's good engineers and scientists there) to "Oh, but they don't have freedom"... no matter what good China does... it is always "oh but... they ..." Massive chemical and automotive factories here that are German - there won't be a 360, that's for sure and it also seems the government can't make the businesses see their way of thinking, business people obviously know better

You see.. there will always be racists and haters out there regardless the issue.. no matter what good you do, they will always see the bad in it. As per the Chinese proverb picking bones in an egg. But that is what the Chinese government appreciates, the moment you say they are not good enough, they would build or do something to improve it. The more you nitpick the better they become, until you have no complaints. They had become so good nowadays that other countries envy. For the some governments, in order not to let their own failure in comparison come into the spotlight, they had to point finger at another issue may it be true or not and make it as sensational as possible, such as the Xinjiang cotton farm human rights issue. Like every magic trick, you draw your audience 's attention elsewhere while you carry out your tricks. One of the oldest trick but still effective.

Whenever I have tried to discuss our observations from our visits to China, people either try to change the conversation, or dismiss me as "but you only saw what they allowed you to see". Unless people visit China themselves, they are not easily convinced. Seeing a country with your own eyes is in my opinion, the best education. When you mentioned bridges to nowhere..."That phrase goes back to the US and in particular the great state of Alaska whose Senator in the US Congress at the time has a pork barrel line item era-marking 18 million dollars to the annual farm bill of that year for a bridge to be built. The Gravina Island Bridge, commonly referred to as the "Bridge to Nowhere", was a proposed bridge to replace the ferry that currently connects the town of Ketchikan, Alaska, United States, with Gravina Island, an island that contains the Ketchikan International Airport as well as 50 residents.I was smiling broadly when you mentioned it. It so happened that today coming back from a medical appointment I got engaged in a discussion with a taxi-driver who thought China was our enemy despite that we owe them Australia for not letting our economy collapse in the GFC 2008, ten years of bashing China has paid off. He never heard anyone defend China before. Interesting comment that I hear in the last 24 hours on a geopolitical channel - I have watched so many geopolitical programs in the last 24 hours that I can't place it exactly which one it was - but the remark was that all Anglo-Saxon countries are racist because their origins as countries are all racist based. I have to say it's true. But not it's just Anglo-Saxon but eurocentric, just emotions Moslems and watch the French smoulder in anger. The one thing that worries me is that the US as an official country would prefer a war with China than to live alongside this great country in peace. 5000 years of civilisation and I have never such resentment coming from people who hate that fact. @@jerrystakeonchina799 Just look at the currently 40,000 km of HSR in China, the naysayers look at it and say it was a failure and waste of money because the system taken as a whole is still bleeding money. I tell them that a government spending, constructing and subsidizing a transportation system to make life easier and more comfortable for the people is always a good thing and very commendable. The long range and intangible benefit is it drives the economical development of those areas serviced by that transport system also. I told them it is a lot better use of government funds than to use ramping up the defense budget and making wars around the globe. They really can't see that that is actually the job of the government, to make the lives of its citizens as comfortable as could be, and that the chinese government is actually a very good example of a government doing that, much better than the US government is doing for them now as a lot of them were americans. I told them the US government once built those freeways and bridges, and nobody expected for them nor even asked them to make a profit, why are they now demanding the chinese HSRs to be profitable before they will say it was a good idea to build them? They don't bother coming back to comment further.

Just got back from a month in China. (I meant to send you an email but forgot 😆 ) I noticed that a branch of KFC had a small fridge outside of the resturant where they put left over food , with a sign saying anyone who wanted it could take it. Contrast that with the extent western business go to to ensure no-one gets anything without paying full price... Andy from 'Reports on China' did a video about how China handles homelessness, well worth a watch.

The americans won't ever do that as it will lead to them getting sued, so it is better for them to throw away perfectly good food but may be unethical to sell instead of risking being sued. perhaps in the old days, some used to do it but one by one they disappeared, now noone will evere do that.

More often, a paradigm shift could be a painful experience. A lot of people would do whatever it would take to avoid facing the truth. After all, staying inside a cocoon was a more comfortable choice than eating a humble pie. Like what you said, those denial thoughts made people looked stupid. In contrast to "buying popularity", the western election system does open bribery aiming at their voters. At the end, those promised bribes were often forgotten or swept under the carpet. Hence, it resulted in the poor state of infrastructure in the west. Still, too many people decide to stay in their "comfort zone" by neglecting the China truth.

This is, so far, one of your best, Jerry. It is quite exhausting to defend China from poorly informed people. They have been fed false soundbites and do not know any better. The worst part about this is that the critical reporting, once the hallmark of our investigative free press, is no longer functioning. It has become one voice (left and right-leaning) to amplify how China is bad. It is rather sad and depressing. Kudos, Jerry.

Jerry, I'm sure you already know this but you're just too nice to say it. Never underestimate how great, the level of stupidity of the masses truly is!!! I have this reinforced into me literally every single day whenever I get online. Most recently being last night!! It really makes me wonder how our species has managed to survive for as long as it has!! My guess is that it's the competent two to five percent of the world population that has kept us afloat all this time! "The CCP is only doing this to buy popularity." I don't think they realise the irony of what they said. Isn't that what democracy in their own countries is all about? 😊

One of the most remarkable things about the rise of China from grinding poverty to relatively prosperous superpower is that it was ALL DONE BY THEIR OWN WORK. They did not have an empire to exploit. On the contrary, they became prosperous spite of the FACT that at the same time, many foreign businesses got rich on the work of Chinese workers! I think that is really extraordinary.

That's a very true point and what could also have happened, as has happened in the USA, is that the wealth could have been sequestered away by a small number of elites, instead, it was invested in the country and the poeple for lasting wealth building - I sincerely hope China continues along the same path and see no reason why they wouldn't

Unfortunately those who are anti-China have already cast their stone and will not change because it undercuts their beliefs, no matter what facts and information counter their beliefs. Some of these are biases formed by racist views, political views, and personal values. The inability to face reality is their problem alone because eventually reality hits them square in the face. Those who are living in China have a better window to view the reality of China, good and bad. Most of these values come from experiences so living in a country is the best way to face the reality of a country. Obviously you are enjoying your 'China environment' and see what is happening at the ground level. Keep up the good work in exposing what China really is. It helps a better understanding of China as its influence spreads across the globe.

I love this post and like others, admire your patience greatly. There are so many people I could think of forwarding this to in the US (where I have my residence; am currently elsewhere). However, given the anti-China climate in the US and the people's overall disgust with US's domestic politics, most of them are turned off on politics, either domestic or foreign. Unfortunately, they still read their mass media and will readily accept ridiculous claims and disinformation about their opposition party while vehemently defend every piece of disinformation about their own party. The democrats will defend themselves against every piece of negative information about them while the republicans would do the same with respect to defending themselves against every piece of negative information about them. Yet, both sides would readily accept that their media is telling them the truth with regards to every piece of negative information about China, even when there is nothing but negative news about China. One would think that it is common sense that floods, scorching hot weather, landslides, collapsing roof(s) do not just happen to people in China. Essentially, the phenomena that has occurred is that too many in the US readily accepts as true every piece of negative information about parties, countries, and ethnic groups they have been primed to disdain, and defend against every piece of negative information concerning the political party they belong. It is as if their minds are closed shut against anything political that does not already conform with their belief. It is a scarry situation.

Seeing is believing. The truth always prevails. However, most American and many British politicians are hell bent against China for no good reason. They just want to deflect attention away from their own failure, so they use China as a scapegoat. I have visited China. Many of my friends and relatives have visited China. Their experience of China's rapid advancement is a testament to the true positive scale of development. China is a developing country. It is always developing. In contrast, mainland Chinese who visit Europe or the US will find the infrastructure of those countries second or third rate.

Well spoken. I travelled to Beijing recently and visited BUCT. That university uses facial recognition to enter buildings, etc. When I returned and told my friends and they say that is creepy to face scan and knows where your entered. Well I said it is no difference when I need to swipe my card to enter buildings at university in NZ and they know who and when enters the buildings too. So you see the stereotyping by those who are already biased mentally.

I guess everyone is entitled to have his/her preference, but it should be based on educated information with objective mind, fact-based. A lot of times, it takes putting ourselves away from our usual perspectives and examine from different angles. From very early childhood I understand that being different is just being different, not necessarily good or bad in lots of cases. Then I learn ancient history should be read with caution as they were written and edited by the dynasty replacing them. Chinese has a very wise idiom - “No book at all is far better than to trust a book entirely!” and Confucius said “To study without thinking is deceptive. To think without studying is dangerous.”

Jerry, I admire your patience with those people, if I were u I would kill myself in sheer anger (guess it has something to do with age). It’s not easy for you to face all these haters and be consistent and persistent on what u r doing today. A lite side of the story for you, that might cheer you up. In 1992, I was working as a cleaner in one of the “hotels” in Wildwood, New Jersey, and of course being a Chinese in those days, we were always being viewed as just another Chinese guy doing chicken fried rice for everyone in the West. Discrimination was so common that I just took it as it was the universal truth. Then I met a white guy, my manager, a North Caroline person, who had great respect on Chairman Mao (of which I have no idea why, I personally dislike Mao’s policy especially later on in his life), but this White American protected me from abuses from others and I thank him for that. I did ask him one time, why were u so nice to me, and he said becoz I reminded him of Mao’s philiosphy. Well, that was the very first time, I was respected by a white guy in the United States - after that visit to the US which lasted 3 months, I concluded one thing, not all White People in US are out there to beat us up, to take advantage out of us, and to step on us, there are GOOD people in the US even though he was just a head of the cleaner unit. There are still hopes, just focus your energy on the ones who could be saved. And. Ignore those (the haters) who do not deserve your time and effort. In the path of evolution, survival the fittest. Those idiots will eventually be casted aside by nature of human history. So don’t get upset by those idiots.
