After watching the show, I posted this on my FB page: I watched the farewell episode of 'The Grand Tour' tonight and I am waxing nostalgic. The gag was to drive classic 70's cars across Zimbabwe. Richard Hammond was piloting a yellow Capri MK1. My first car was a yellow 1974 (Mercury) Capri 2.8 V6/4spd oh man. It looked very much like the car on the show, and looked exactly like the car in the sales brochure In the summer of '81 I gathered the money I made selling fireworks at my fathers stands. My Mother took me to buy the Capri from a Dr. Murphy. My Dad was off exploring Honduras or Mississippi or where ever. Dr. Murphy, a true gentleman of the times, was reluctant to sell a car to a woman without her husbands permission. He finally relented and $1400 later I owned my first car. I was only 15, so I couldn't drive it alone yet. Every scene in the show that the Capri appears in brought back floods of memories. Road trip capers, trips to tennis matches and bikes races with skateboards bouncing around the trunk. Illicit speed runs, roadside repairs, backseat debauchery, you name it. I never drove it across Zimbabwe, but I drove it across Oklahoma, same thing. The Grand Tour (and Top Gear before it) was a fantastic show. The last episode did not disappoint. I'm not cryin' you're cryin' Bon Chance Guys. p.s. I had a shooting buddy who used to transplant Ford V8's into Staaags.

Problem with replacing the trio is that people are not patient enough for new people to find their groove. They've been working together forever so the dynamic is there. The issue with the BBC was that they handled the farce wrongly. And didn't allow Clarkson ,may and Hammond one last chance to end the show their own way. And tried to use the same formula and tried to replace the trio immediately. Amazon has the support and blessings of whilham and the trio and allied them to end the show their way. Clarkson also advised them not to look at famous host but funny car people.

Exactly. While there is no replacing the trio, the BBC got flack not so much for trying to continue Top Gear/replace them, but for firing Clarkson (and thus the trio), and ending it hard that way. The Grand Tour ended completely naturally, and amicably. Still, it's unlikely they will find a group that will make people interested given the shoes to fill. Especially if they try and go woke first with it.

That description of the average 70s Capri owner really struck home! I had a 1972 3.0 GTXLR when I was 21, and I did all that! Racing another Capri towards a railway bridge that had room for about one and a half Capris to go through at once (they chickened out first!). Running a red light in excess of 100 mph with (unknown to me) an unmarked Police Escort following me. Demonstrating it's near unmatched ability to do donuts in gravel car parks. Hitting 125 on the M3 and seeing an SDI Rover a few inches off my rear bumper (thankfully that wasn't a Police car...). Spinning the rear wheels down a double-parked suburban street. Happy days...... And mine was the same colour as Richard's, with the same wheels!

James's STAG and Hammond's car must be restored, and if they both visit Clarkson's farm, that could be a amazing video!!!!!

That yellow Capri is more legendary than anything than anything new Top Gear has ever done

Mike, Izzy Hammond and former Stig would be a great team for the next Grand Tour!

Mike and Ben for sure. Not sure about Izzy. She's cool and all but she doesn't know enough about cars

I reckon keep Chris Harris too, he carried it for the BBC re-brand.

I don't think outside of maybe Izzy that any of them are entertaining enough.

Nobody can “take the place” of such iconic characters as them…I dare say that the project is doomed to failure.

Who would watch the new Grand Tour? I´m not willing. My heroes have finished... I just have a tear in my eye... But nothing is forever. THANK YOU "CHAPS" ❤

Asking who could replace the legendary 3 is like setting up the love of your life with someone else. But, I think Chris Harris deserves a platform. Apart from being known, he meets the criteria Jeremy proposed to Amazon.
@landonsparrow77553 ай бұрын
You can’t replace them. They will always be number one. I do think a show with Izzy, Mike and Caleb would be hilarious though

Chris Harris is a definite. You can't beat his enthusiasm and compared to when he 1st joined tg, he's mellowed to fit perfectly. tavarish, hoovie or edd. They have an amazing chemistry. Just not so comfortable with small euro spec cars and Mike.... Can't not say mike as he's become much more comfortable with the camera over time and he knows the boys and how the trio worked

Amazon should leave the grand tour well alone. It was absolutely brilliant to watch, I would be disappointed bitterly if Amazon tried to resurrected it with three new presenters. Amazon leave it alone!

Its a high time we get a museum of all these memorabilia. The posterity must get inspiration

Hoovie, Tavarish and Ed. they have already done it with CarTrek

still wouldn't have a similar feel though, I also don't believe any of them would sign on to have Amazon dictate their content.

The primary difference between the GT & GXL, apart from the slide only sunroof, is that the GXL is a little softer and more comfortable in the ride department. It was by far the most sensible MK1 Capri to take on a Grand Tour. Rather nice too.

So badly want a Capri. I am an early Gen Xer but fell in love with the Capri thanks to an uncle who had a Mk I that he barely drove and babied like you wouldnt believe. I think in 10 years of ownership it had 30k on it. It also helped that the Professionals were one of the most popular shows when I turned from child to teenager.
@drumzone53 ай бұрын
You, Izzy and Stig should definitely be the next hosts of Grand Tour...only makes sense right?!?
@julianlord269721 күн бұрын
It is a Mk 1 1/2, a mild facelift that saw a better dash, larger lights and the introduction of the Pinto engines. My favourite Capri and quite rare.

I think they should've used the Drivetribe channel to find new presenters, they'd be able to see how the audience reacted to the new presenters before putting them on the Grand Tour
@matgale12983 ай бұрын
I agree with what Clarckson said at his screening / Q&A. Don’t have named ‘celebrities’ do it. Have genuine people who genuinely love cars. That’s what worked when TopGear rebooted in 2002. And why it continued to work for 22 years. Post CHM top gear was about finding the personalities to host it, rather than it be a car show
@jameselam84073 ай бұрын
I think you should be involved in the next iteration of The Grand Tour...seems like a natural thing to do with your association to May and Hammond on DriveTribe.
