More than likely the front brakes were swapped to a smaller diameter to fit the smaller diameter wheels which are required to run the offroad tires with taller sidewalls. Factory rears fit under the wheels so no need to swap those. Pretty typical with rally prep for subarus, evos etc

Would you do a video on what happened to John the Mongolian offroader i know the basic story but would love to know more about who made it and what happened, i am hoping that someone in Mongolia just stored it away rather than scrapped it. Think it would be nice to semi restore this car get it back and up and running it may be possible to clear coat some of the underside and other areas, keep the patina but prevent further corrosion, although i would probably want to restore it back to best condition but a bit torn with it being a bit of TV history.

Alumin(i)um going green means it's a compound with copper in it - that's the very strong type in which the copper forms chains (like polymers or glass fibres in resin) that make it much stronger. That would make it aircraft grade, IIRC. (Cold bending it into a shape however breaks the chains and the risk of metal fatigue returns into the Al). In this case, repeated sand-blasting off of the protective layer of AlO (al oxide) brings the copper to the surface to an extent it's green.

I'd be more interested in the Z71 Hammond had, it was the true contender, but I think they purposely made it look bad on the show. I know people that got those trucks and saw the show and said they staged alot of failures and breakdowns with the truck to make it look bad. I know a buddy of mines got a '97 Stepside Z71, and its got a 454 under the hood like hammonds, and it pretty fast. 0-60 in about 6 seconds which aint bad at all for that truck considering its a 4x4. Thats why a lot of us in the Z71 club are saying its staged, and would have beaten the Jeep and the Panda 4x4 by miles. Those trucks are tough as nails too, which is why most people have them in the country.

I'd give that car a full service; all new fluids, filters, spark plugs, etc. Scrub it inside and out, take the torn two rear straps off, (bag them up for history), rust proof it underneath, go through the brakes, fix the suspension, and enjoy.

My Maserati won't go more than 5. It blew it's engine and now it won't drive. My apologies to Joe Walsh, couldn't help it. Awesome that all 3 of these could be saved, they truly are Museum pieces for a cultural phenomenon that will not be soon matched.

I've been wishing for so long to know what happened to this car. It's probably the most memorable one out of the three for me. Partly because it was more tastefully modified and better looking than the other two, but mostly because it was undoubtedly the best sounding. I hope whoever buys it next does it some justice and get's it properly cleaned up.

The reason it was able to get into the country full of foreign sand etc will be because it was already registered in the UK. I've looked at importing a few cars from the USA into the UK and the British regulations do stipulate that the vehicle has to be clean of dirt, plant matter etc.

If this car was cleaned immediately after the desert, the salt might have done less damage. However, absolutely all the bushings, aluminum, steel, wiring, connectors, etc that are inaccessible will continue to corrode. To make things worse, this car has had sand/salt on the inside, as well as the outside.
