Joe another top tip for the sticky interior buttons on the sports & l405 vogues if you have any more in the further, Neutrogena makeup wipes. Everyone recommends it on the Range Rover forums. Cheap as chips on Amazon and leaves the buttons perfect! Some tar and goo removers will strip the buttons of the labels. Used it for Vogues/Disco 4’s etc.

I am South African, 78, and was in the luggage manufacturing business. To remove stubborn stains without removing the colour from the seats, leather, vinyl and plastic, we used a highly flammable Shell product called MEK. Methyl Ethyl Ketone. Bloody miraculous stuff. I also used MEK to keep the interior of my many Alfas spotless without fear of removing colour from the upholstery. Remember MEK.
@bmostert5 ай бұрын
Do not use MEK on interiors! I use it every day at work, it’s fine on PP or PE plastics but it melts PVC, ABS, vinyl. If you want a safe solvent for all materials use Isopropyl alcohol.
@davidporter27705 ай бұрын
@@bmostert I am a motor car enthusiast and have owned many Alfas. Whenever I had a stubborn stain on the upholstery, I used MEK. And no colour was removed. For that sticky soft-touch material, the cheapest and easiest stuff to remove it is methylated spirit (£3 a bottle), a rag and some elbow grease. It will usually leave the plastic underneath glossy but not sticky any more. We see it a lot with electronics from that era, that otherwise work fine if not for that. It’s so annoying they continue to do this…

I love old Range Rovers. Don't know about the L322s onward but the P38s are great cars if you don't use them as a daily driver or don't put much mileage in due to somewhat thirsty nature. Easy to work on, parts are dirt cheap and readily available. Even the dreaded BECM is pretty simple to fault find and fix by anyone with a little electronic knowledge and fairly basic test equipment. As long as you keep up with servicing and maintenance they'll go on forever (well for a couple of years anyway but then you can strip it for spares, scrap the shell, and get another one for pocket money and eventually it's free motoring.)

These cars have had problems with spontaneously catching fire. Has it had the recall? Also the crankshafts split in half and the oil pump tends to fail. On a cold start the oil pressure should go to max in around 2 seconds. Any longer and any clattering you have the faulty oil pump design. The first 40K Km you should be ok. After that toss a coin.

@shifty2775 ай бұрын
Maybe more than one lower arm like the S-line Audi suspensions - Main dealers can price suspension arms at probably 3 times the cost you can get the same arm with the original Manufacturer from a motor factors like GSF, ECP etc. If each arm say (4 in total) is £120 each at the motor factors - Land Rover charge for example £300 each. Prob £200 per hour labour at main stealer for 4 hours labour and that can make up the cost. This is all just an example. Ask for more detailed breakdown on the costs. If they don't want to do this take your custom elsewhere.

Thank you Sir, that was an entertaining watch, and list of components, all of which are completely useless to a Classic Defender owner, driver and fixer lol. But I wouldn't want to throw 1/2 a ton of dirty deer fencing equipment, or logs in the back of such a pristine palace. These are luxury motors with more fail points than Liz Truss, so the seat module didn't shut down properly says it all !! The new Defender is a very capable vehicle with it's stylistic nod to the past, but like a new John Deer tractor, you are disallowed to repair them yourselves. Which for a Farmer is very bad news, and for an adventurer in the wilderness or remote location a total disaster,; because you just can not fix a new Defender anywhere in the world. But you can fix or get fixed the far more rugged classic Defender, anywhere and by almost anyone! That's the real difference. Self reliance is a part of our British identity, and good on you Joe for rising to the challenge and keeping some of the more fragile Ranges going and harking a living at the same time. Your a true Brit 👍 Classic ruggedness is not what most folk want from a Rangie these days. It's a luxury cruzer and all the bells and whistles to pamper ones self esteem; and a motor that requires a satanic quantity of oil that the owner must never touch, for fear of being burned, in the fires if consumer hell lol. 6.66 Litres, you just can't make that up lol Thanks Joe 😂

The build quality was crap from constantly blowing brake light bulbs to the boot release failing, one of the twin horns failing (it sounded like a really shit Korean car when I honked the horn). The paintwork was softer than warm butter and would scratch if I dared look at it. It wore out tyres at around 8k miles. It was brilliant for towing but for day to day use it was better, and cheaper, to fly. JLR are over rated and I will never, ever buy anything from them again. Oh and I forgot to mention that one service cost me over £800 (it was valeted but for that money I would expect a season ticker to a premier league football club). Why anyone would part with their hard earned cash on one of their shit cars is beyond me.
