VFX specialists overstated Vhagar's size. Accurate estimations taking HotD as source give a 240-250 feet length estimation, so Balerion would've been 300+ feet I'd say (during the Conquest, he probably grew larger after that)

Nope, I don't think they did. On the contrary, they got their proportions wrong in several scenes. I took the scene where Aemond first claimed Vhagar. There is a scene where Vhagar is about to burn Aemond before the latter speaks in Valyrian asking Vhagar to obey. Vhagar takes a closer look at the boy and we can scale up the head from this scene to estimate a head size of 20-22 feet. Basis the head-body-tail proportions, the total length of a dragon, barring mutants like Caraxes, is around 14-16 times the length of their head. Keeping the lowest estimate of 20 feet for Vhagar's head, she is minimum 300 feet in length with a wing span of around 130-150 meters. No way is she just 240 feet.

Considering Vhagar's head is around 22 feet in length and the neck is around 2 heads in length (22×2 = 44 feet), the tail itself being minimum 4 heads in length (88 feet again) and the wings being 75 meters each (around 246 feet), I am estimating minimum 400+ feet from tip of Vhagar's snout to end of tail. Balerion would have been close to 550+ feet

​@@aswinastro I was looking precisely at the size of the dragons in GOT and HOTD, it is a little complicated to look for a specific figure since there are usually no official measurements, although everything indicates that in terms of length, Balerion does reach up to 550' feet. long, which is equivalent to 167.4 meters long. With Aemond's size alone on Vhagar, the size is already impressive. In the case of Balerion it is quite difficult to compare the size without having seen it on screen other than in some animations. Although I admit that I can get an idea with the impressive size, since in the Elden Ring game, you have 3 fairly large dragons around the map (1 in the DLC), [Greyoll - 182 meters long/597' feet long ], [Gransax - 328 meters long/1076' feet long], [DLC dragon - 392 meters long/1286' feet long]. I confess that it would be crazy to see dragons like that compared to those in GOT and HOTD, although I am perfectly happy with seeing Balerion in all his splendor on screen 😊

@@Fran-351 Thanks Fran, great info on the dragons in the Elden Ring game, I must admit I am not aware of the game, but I will check it out. As for Balerion, you are right, it would be awesome to see him come to life if they make another spin-off on Aegon's conquest or some other king that used Balerion. But my only fear is the budget. Apparently, the HoT team had to scale down Vhagar (Surprise Surprise) from the book's description because of practical issues with the VFX (No idea what the issue was). As per the book's description, Vhagar's mouth was so huge that you have a knight and his horse ride down her gullet, which basically means her mouth alone should have been over 10 feet. But I understand the budget issues and the scale issues that are a problem to the VFX team. They did a great job with Vhagar, but had to scale her down. I think they will do the same to Balerion. But one thing for sure, they better have a big damn budget because Aegon's conquest involved 3 very big dragons and I am presuming it is going to cost a bomb to bring them to life and do justice.
