I've been at Estadio do Dragão once. The Porto's tour mesures how Deco is respected there. When he came to Brazil to play for Fluminense he was strugling against the injuries, but he helped us a lot in two Brazilian league titles, mostly in 2012, when he played as the old Deco. Fluminense fans loves Deco. Besides his beautiful game, he was a true winner. Two of our four Brazilian league titles has been won with Deco's help. Obrigado, Mago!

Deco was a masterclass player. Magic, simplicity, great ball control, fantastic dribbler. Growing up he was the player I looked up to, he played in Portugal a lot of time before Porto and, despite being a Sporting CP fan my whole life, I just couldn't resist admiring Deco. The subtlety he did everything, absolute class. He made it look like everyone else played checkers while he was playing chess. Only regret I have is, unfortunately, he did not win any major title with Portugal. We know as Portuguese how much the 2004 final still hurts, great team, beautiful atmosphere in the country and a whole golden generation of players that made a path for these youngsters now. My honest homage to Deco, one of the greatest that ever graced the field.

Deco was an absolute genius, one of the best midfielders I have ever seen live. His first touch magical, and he could do everything with the ball. Maybe lacked the physique and speed to be considered a top midfielder of his time, but he played in a golden age(Zidane, Figo, Beckham, Scholes, Viera and Co.)

It's was the Vietnam times back there... Specially for Souness he went to Benfica not to train but to make money transferring players like Minto/Dean and...Michel Thomas. It's was hard for a player that had not yet played for Benfica, that was playing in Alverca to return and play in those conditions. It was one of the thousand mistakes Benfica had made in that time, like sacking Mourinho like they did.

Great player, and I really loved watching him. His peak didn't last very long and he was inconsistent and struggled with injuries, but between 2003-2006 in particular he was absolutely brilliant to watch...technical, dynamic, creative, had a great shot from distance, and was a wonderful passer and playmaker. I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I still think he arguably deserved the Ballon d'Or in 2004 for what he did both with Porto and Portugal (I know that there were others who were deserving as well, so I'm not saying they also didn't deserve it...I feel somewhat about Sheva winning it though).

I think people have exaggerated the abilities of Lionel Messi and Christiano Ronaldo. What you have to also consider is that these two players are playing in an era where football is not that good anymore. That is the issue with our new generation. Messi and Ronaldo grew under intense competition and had players like Deco, Ronaldo 09, Luis Figo, Zinedine Zidane, David Beckham, Ronaldinho, Xavi etc to contest with. All these players were legends and had extra ordinary capabilities. Right now besides Messi and Ronaldo which player can you compare with either Deco or Luis Figo? Non. Which other player is more skilled than Ronaldinho, even with Messi and Ronaldo included? The answer is non.

I even argue that if he would have joined Bayern at that time, he would have won more.
