Just how GOOD was Jenson Button

I think Jenson would have performed even better in current era cars since the cars of today require even more smooth driving than the V10 and V8 eras. He was masterfully smooth behind the wheel

I don't think Button really gets the recognition he deserves, in large part because of the things you pointed out here, but for whatever reason, we race fans often forget that these are among the top drivers in the world. Button accomplished all of that while not only facing off against the likes of Hamilton and Alonso, but Vettel and other top drivers. And the quality of F1 machinery is often a crapshoot as well. The playing field is never even, so it's entirely possible for a great driver to be mired in mediocrity due to bad luck. This was a good video. I'd like to see you do one on Nico Hulkenberg eventually!

He gets WAY too much credit if you ask me. Dude got trounced by Ralf Schumacher (Ralf was super quick arguably the quickest in his day and Button was a rookie, but still), destroyed by Fisichella (and i mean destroyed like Pérez is being destroyed by Max this season), overall out-paced by an off-prime Villeneuve and Trulli (although he ou-scored them), failed to win a single race with the 2nd best car in 2004,.... And when he was teammate with Hamilton, he was viciously out-paced, especially in 2012, a massacre not shown by the driver's standings. He was a very smooth and mostly clean driver, with unmatched skill to judge conditions in changing weather, but he's not forgotten AT ALL, in fact, drivers that don't get or never got the credit they deserved are guys like Heidfeld, Reutemann,...

Would be crazy to imagine if he signed on with Merc in 2010 and had the privilege to drive with Schumacher for 3 years (potentially outperforming him (possibly getting a win or two)) then Button would drive with Hamilton from 2013 anyway fighting out for a championship for the rest of the decade. I am aware that McLaren had a title contending car in 2010-12 but it didn't paint a full picture of what could have been an iconic rivalry. If they both had 5 years in that Mercedes then both would walk away with multiple championships and both would have gone down as all-time greats.

Jenson Button was very Consistent in 2004 with BAR 9 Podium's. 3rd in the Championship behind the two Ferrari's.

He had more championships in him pre 2009 and definitely after 2009 but bad cars that were not reliable and a management team who obviously gave him awful team choice decisions over time. Merc or Renault would been mega for him.
