Today we're in upstate New York visiting the new Six Flags park, Darien Lake! We're going to find out how fast their dispatches are by visiting each of their coasters and timing them to figure out how fast that line will move. How did they do? Time to find out!

I would say for a mostly one-train park, it's running pretty smoothly, for the most part. And it's improved in the last 2 years since Six Flags reacquired the park. Also, they forgot to include the Boomerang coaster. Maybe it wasn't running that day.

Hey I know this has nothing to do with the video buuut.. I was thinking that it would be cool to see a parody of twisted timbers. I mean when I thought of this you could make fun of how: -It has a trick track double up (Like with storm chaser) -used 2 words from 2 roller coasters to make the name -they messed up the brake run (Where it turns to the right a bit) -have Josh from kings dominion Be in the parody -has a loud lifthill -you can also use scenes from the InvadR where the plans for a new roller coaster got stolen, or from the steal veangence where Josh goes into the room And is like "Can I have one too?" These are just my thoughts but I think it'd be kinda cool

Darien Lake is legit not that bad. Yes, I am bias because its my home park, but if you go on a mid week day, the park is perfectly fine,. Is there room for improvement? yes. I am not so jaded that i cant see my own home parks flaws. But for the attendance it gets and how not busy it usually is, its a decent park. What darien lake needs six flags to do is not keep adding something new every year, what it needs to do with darien lake is buy new trains.

Always wanted to know, will you disqualify a video for this if you see it's the rider's who are causing delays? For example, people who can't read the rules, or listen to dispatch? I had almost a 5 minute dispatch on Ride of Steel because they had to pop the restraints twice.

Dispatch times honestly depends on the type of ride. Anything with a seatbelt that the ride operator has to check takes a longer time. Also riders can be a factor to long Dispatch times as well

These must’ve been all star ops that day. Last time we went we tracked Motocoaster at over 4 minutes, Ride of Steel almost 3 minutes, and Viper over 3 minutes. We counted from the time the train parks to the time it rolls out of the station.

I was a ride op for at Six Flags Over Georgia for 3 months and I used to do Georgia Scorcher, Twisted Cyclone and Dahlonega Mine Train and Scorcher's dispatch times really varied since its a stand up and since the restraint heights need to be adjusted and people were always asking for unnecessary adjustments lol

1 It's off season, so lines aren't long anyway. 2 Running one train only wears out 1 train, keeping maintenance costs down. 3 Six Flags is happiest when people are in line. It cuts down on path crowds, and people tend to behave better in line.

With at least 7 coasters in the park, the wait times are relatively short. Some rides, like the viper, you only have to wait for a couple of cycles before it's your turn. Why run two trains when the overall wait time is less than ten minutes? I can remember, as a kid in the early nineties, the viper was only one of two roller coasters in the park, the other being the predator, and both rides had an hour long wait, or more. In those days, it made sense that these rides operated with two trains.

I have worked at this park for the past 4 summers. I'm actually surprised that Ride of Steel was that fast, because the restraints need to go down enough for the train to dispatch...and almost every time I've been up there, we've had to kick someone off every other cycle. It got to the point where I can tell if I'm going to have to kick someone off when they walk up to the ride. Mind Eraser is a weird one. It's the coaster I've probably worked on the longest, although I've spent a lot more time at Tantrum and Ride of Steel. Dispatching for that one is weird, since we usually have to wait a while for people to gather their shoes and complain about their new headaches. Also, we do have a lot of people jumping over fences there, so we do have to watch for that. Mostly, this just made me miss the people I worked with all summer. We might not have gotten along all the time, but working at this park turns you into family.

As a mechanic at this park I can say the one train operation is because trains are rotated. When one comes off for repairs and such the other takes its place

Why though 2 trains would cut wait times in half and you’d have less upset guest I struggled to get on ride of steel I had 2 visits and couldn’t get on both those visits because the line stretched out to underneath predator.

My home park. The place tends to be less crowded during the week unless it is a holiday or a concert day. I do remember that they run one train ops even back when Ride of Steel and Mind Eraser (like 2001-02) were relatively new so it is probably a money issue. Also Predator needs to be RMC'd badly.

Mind Eraser is great to wait in line for, cause usually the line is really slow on account of the ride not being swell, and you know that the ride is gonna hurt so you get excited and nervous😁

Another thing to consider is that none of their coasters require you to put your items in lockers prior to getting in line. So a lot of the long dispatches are due to guest being slow in putting all there items to the side, and guest not following loose article rules, etc. will slow operations down. You can’t necessarily blame the ride operators for this! However maybe the park should start requiring lockers to speed up lines since they have only one train for most coasters

They do not require you to get a locker. They have bins on the ride platforms for all of their roller coasters.

Stupid comment. You do realize this is the first season Six Flags ran Darien Lake, and the park was very mismanaged and neglected by the previous operators. They had to do a ton of infrastructure work to prepare for this season and it is much better run already compared to how it used to be.

This park has 3 Old Skool rides, Auuugh (Boomerang, Mind Eraser, Viper). SF won't be in a hurry to change anything, Auuuugh. Welcome to being stuck in the step child zone. Last known attendance figure was 1.275 million, that's below 1.5 million which is the cutoff of the step child level. The water park is land locked. So many things wrong with this park.

That’s a really ridiculous comment. This is their first season running the park, and you don’t know about all of the infrastructure work that had to be done to get the park ready for this season...a lot of money went into the place. And the park was severely neglected by previous operators and now it’s left to Six Flags to clean up the mess. The park is being run much more professionally, but things don’t happen overnight.

Mark Volpe I am aware. Was simply because of time restraints. When I would’ve normally timed their dispatch, it was a walk on and so I didn’t even wait a single rotation, I just got on immediately, rode it, and left.

10+ minutes for Ride of Steel is not unusual. I timed 8 cycles over 52 minutes while waiting in line on June 5. Cycles ranging from 4 minimum to 12 maximum. Naturally these calculations include the ride time, which is almost exactly 2 minutes. Theoretical throughput (assuming trains were leaving at capacity, which they weren't) of 294 riders/hr. Embarrassing. On top of that, it wasn't even riding well. Rough and stuttered and struggled to peak the first airtime hill. Also measured a throughput of 219 for Predator immediately before timing RoS. 7 cycles over 46 minutes, theoretical 219 riders/hr. Embarrassing.
