Kids, kids, kids--- if you believe attending a college or university is a path to PR... dream on. It has worked (note: past tense) up to now, and I know some ppl who came here after whatever-you-call secondary school "back home" and got PR a few years ago. It is becoming close to impossible to live almost everywhere in Canada, unless you spend C$1000/month for a private bedroom ( and 12 month leases are the norm, not the exception). Aside from weather, cost of food, and the much-higher tuition you will pay, you will find nothing but C$15/hr jobs (limit 20 hr/week), unless you choose to work illegally for cash... and there are next to no $15/hr jobs that dont have long application lineups with 100s of ppl that look like you. Maybe you can be an influencer, immigration consultant, or game streamer and live off that… hahahahaha. More likely? Driving for Uber - - - pays not much more than your costs. Background before the big news: Canada has underfunded post-secondary for so long, that to survive, some schools have specifically targeted foreign students with special programs for their higher tuition. Uh oh! Big news: Local employers know which schools are diploma/certificate mills. Around here, resumes from 'grads' from Centennial and Conestoga are filtered out. Even Universities, like U of Cape Breton- created solely to milk foreign students for high tuitions. Employers have learned which are degree/dip/cert mills. Bonus tip: some especially unscrupulous operators have created 'schools' where close to 100% of the enrollees are foreign students: schoolandtravel.com/blacklisted-colleges-in-canada/ www.onmanorama.com/career-and-campus/top-news/2022/02/17/3-canadian-colleges-shut-bankruptcy-2000-indian-students-scammed.html --- and when you arrive, guess what? You definitely have to inform IRCC on this as they will have to update your study permit. The Study permit has to be valid for the whole duration of your studies and stay in Canada.

If possible you should apply for the study permit, using the LOA of the school and program you are actually going to. Yes you can change your school after having already started a different one, but you will be wasting money and time, its not recommended.

There are YT videos showing a loophole. They tell you to take a short-term course (a prerequisite for your program such as ESL). You don't need study permit since it is less than 6 months. Afterwards, apply to college for LOA and study permit. Do your own research and see if I am right.

I think it will affect the applicants who are waiting for sp approval and waiting for loa and about to apply for sp and loa. I think we should not worry on the loa verification if we know that we are dealing with legit agents of the schools, but hopefully we have the access to the tool as well as a student so you can verify it as well yourself.

As of now they have not announced anything specific on the PGWP changes. So at this point I would not worry too much if you are already in school. Overall though if you have the goal to get PR later, it always makes sense to look at occupations that are in demand.
