Great perspectives and reminders of how fortunate some of us are, even if we haven't reached a particular goal. Thanks!

Lots of good tips, just keep buying definitely the most thought provoking compared to the typical advice. Just earn more is maybe easier said than done but investing in yourself and starting now on sidehustles is the takeaway from that.

Great Episode! The small niche topic reminded me of the 1000 true fan rule for internet and social media now a days. If you can get 100$ per year in some for from 1000 true fans per year then you're upwards of 100k per year in income. It's a nice small medium to think of when starting out imo. Best of luck all!

I don't understand the 'borrow using your stocks as collateral' and live off the debt. The debt still has to be paid back, so how do you pay it off if (in the Elon Musk example), your stock pays no dividends, so you have no cash flow. I assume the debt has monthly payments like anything else, or no? I assume Musk is diversified to some extent, so does, in fact, have some sort of cash flow that doesn't require selling shares of an investment. In that case, why would take out debt, and not just spend the dividends? Lost opportunity of reinvesting the dividend? in the case of a Real estate portfolio, again, I assume the RE must be throwing off some income to pay the debt back? Or does the ultra-wealthy just refinance the debt, adding more collateral?

The "buying the dip" phrase is so over used at this point. Someone please correct me if i'm wrong! Buying the dip only makes sense if (1) You're starting a new position into a company or (2) The share price drops below you're average share price that you bought into the stock?

Ohhhhhh dear this is sloppy BTD analysis. Buying at low percentiles in a time window is buying the dip and significantly outperforms DCA in securities with high tail volatility. I will be glad to prove this live with data and Monte Carlo simulation.

That seems easy to say in retrospect but how do you do it in real time and ensure that you're not catching the knife?

Fancy words without much basis.

@@jfriesen39 You are…what has to be accounted for is that a minimum spacing between purchases has to be derived based on the Monte Carlo simulation for the security. You don’t just buy buy buy as it goes down.

And what is lost in the long-term view is the increase in number of stocks bought by using a dip (or, say, a 10% drop after earnings call). If you see it in number of stocks then additional compounding sets in. I like having more stocks for the buck.

Thank you for posting. Here’s why I didn’t appreciate it. Words are flying around wildly, but many of these topics are glossed over with generalizations. Additionally, certainly a young person shouldn’t do the same things as a retiree. No mention of that. These important topics must be “gone into” not just “asserted” with no careful analysis.

Wasn’t impressed with this book tbh. Is good for young kids and teenagers though
