When you walk into the room. The 1st song I learned to play on a12 string. Years later I played it at an after show get together and was pleasantly surprised when my audience knew the song and sang along. Amazing! 🤩

I once heard it said that it one could master all the parts on "Maggot Brain" by Funkadelic, you've mastered guitar. Although, my pick would have to be Yes's Close to the Edge for this

Brown Eyed Girl, has sooo much more complexity in the guitar parts, than a LOT of players even realize!! Great lesson/ explanation Mark! Thanks!!

You nailed it. I've learned this song -------------- the real strum --- all the little parts in between the singing and the intro. This song is a classic learn ---- people have no clue. And its FAST not slow like you usually hear it so you better be ready for the changes.

Good question. My pick would be Blackbird. It’s easy on the ears, audience friendly and you could play it in a campfire, in the living room for your family, in your hometown pub for the locals or in a packed stadium for the fans.

That's a great pick. If my pick wasn't based on whole idea about picking up girls, I would have picked Blackbird myself. You know, the funny thing is, I believe I met my ex wife on a night in which I performed Blackbird at a club. LMAO. Thanks so much for your time. Have a great weekend and take care. Mark

That's so interesting that you picked Aqualung. A buddy of mine sent me a guy performing the song acoustic and I liked the arrangement so I worked it out yesterday. Definitely a fun one. Aqualung was the first CD I ever got so I know every song on there better than the band does. Cheap Day Return, Mother Goose, My God. Thanks so much for checking out the video Clint. I appreciate your time and comment. Have a great weekend and take care. Mark

Love Brown Eyed Girl. Great song. A true classic. Thanks for the in depth lesson. That was pretty cool Mark. My favorite go to for any occasion is Country Roads by John Denver. Have a great week my friend.

Hey Liam. I'm not sure if you've seen my campfire songs videos but Country Roads is the only one that made the top 5 in both videos (#1 in the first and #3 in the second). I can't argue with that pick at all. Thanks so much for your time and comment. I hope you have an awesome weekend. Mark

Hey Fred. It looks like most people don't agree with me that any song is going to get really old and the whole point was the picking methodology and not really the song for it's own sake. Have a great weekend. Mark

Good choice on the song, Mark. But my choice would be Maggie May by Rod Stewart on his Every Picture Tells a Story album. Just a catchy tune but not as uplifting a story as Brown Eyed Girl. Maybe you could do a lesson on Maggie May? Thanks for all your work on such entertaining videos.

That is a tough question with so many songs to chose from. Being a Rush fan several come to mind. And also being a big fan of Alex Lifeson's acoustic playing I would have to pick " Hope ". Although I would also have to say " Free Bird". Especially the slide playing that really makes the song what it is. Great video Mark!

great call, mark, but, being a man of many moods, there's no way i could boil it all down to one song haha! gee, off the top of my head, i might say 'mandocello', by cheap trick, or, their 'takin' me back'. 'the rain song', of course - or even jobim's 'wave' or 'aguas de marco'! 😊

'Don't Fear the Reaper', Blue Oyster Cult. 1976.Great riff, solid rhythm, intriguing lyrics, acoustic friendly, especially on a 12. This works everywhere, big gigs, small gigs, campfires, nursimg homes...even in church! I once got this from a grieving relative as an oddball request at a biker's funeral. True! LOL! I KILLED it. 😂😅. Hahahahaha!.😂 2nd pick would be 'Pretty Woman' Everybody loves Roy, and there's always some guy who's going to do the "cat's purr".

Great choice Mark. Yes everyone knows this song and it has a great riff . Which you can play in a couple different keys by changing the starting fret position. I think this was one of the first songs I could every play all the way through like 40 years ago . also yes going wireless is great no more tripping over chords. Just did that myself Mark in the last year. Your Rok Lok's are also great to use. Hope your selling many

If I could only play one song, it would be one that pleases me: perhaps "Amelia", or Hendrix' "Star Spangled Banner", or "Helter Skelter". I want to have fun with it. I am too old to care about what others think about what I play. That said, "Brown Eyed Girl" is fun to play, and a great song!
@8MinuteAxe

Hey Steven. Amelia, that's an interesting choice. After the Beatles and Steely Dan comes Joni in my list of all time favorites. And then there's a big gap to number 4 Led Zeppelin and I'm not sure who #5 is. I love every note of every song from Clouds through the Hissing of Summer Lawns. Although I like Hejira, I was never a huge fan although it has three great songs on it. Court and Spark is my favorite album of all time by any artist. It's perfect in almost every way. Thanks so much. Mark

Thanks so much for the kind words and I'm glad you found value in the lesson. I have a love hate relationship with the acoustasonic. On its own I feel that it's overpriced and doesn't do anything very well (it does't sound like an electric and it doesn't sound like an acoustic). That being said, it's great for solo "acoustic" sets. I can easily solo and play rhythm and lead at the same time. There is a HUGE glut of them on the used market. Even the ones that sold for 2000 new are selling for 850 tops. Most are in the low 700s. Have a great weekend. Mark

I'll have to disagree. Brown Eyed Girl has been overplayed for the last 40 years, both on the radio, and in bars. It's #6 on my Don't Ever Want To Hear This Bloody Song Again list. My pick would be Melissa by the Allman Brothers Band. 2nd choice: Rocky Mountain High.
@billdowney1487

While you are right about it overplayed -= playing for people is about what they like and the "feel" or "Vibe" going on and where your at ------- I can always read a "brown eyed girl" crowd ---- and that's the only time we do the song. But when done right and at the right speed................ it goes over great cuz its easy for the crowd to participate in the chorus and the la la la part. Just saying. A lot of musicians don't like playing it. The funny part ---- is most of the time --- their not doing the song right. They're just winging it.

Dude, shouldn't your signature song be a song that you wrote? What could be more personal? Isn't that meant to inspire us to write better songs? Also, there's a lot of truth in it, seeing how many one hit wonders DO end up playing one song for the rest of their lives. Let's just hope they like their own song!!
