I'm an OLD car guy from Haltom City, Texas. I appreciate the way you use the correct term lb./ft. Instead of the dreaded ft./lb. I've gotten over the fact that most people call an engine a motor, but some things I can't let go. I started helping my two older brothers work on their 55 chevys when I was five years old. 1965. While I agree it looks good, one thing that is very important to me (and might make a good addition to your reviews) is how well you can see out for merging, parking etc. That large C-pillar and small back window probably make it impossible to see out of anywhere back of the 180 deg forward view. PS great job I really like your reviews.

@@steamer99 I'd call it an aid, not a toy. I"d agree, of course, that BSM doesn't substitute for actually glancing to the rear when changing lanes. Unfortunately, though, the Mazda3 isn't alone (or even the worst offender) in terms of designing vehicles without regard to actual visibility. I was considering a Camaro as a replacement for my GTI last year. It was like driving a bathtub with very high sides. Took only a few blocks of a test drive to convince me that I'd no more consider buying one than I'd consider driving while wearing blinders.
@stephenhendricks1035 жыл бұрын
Let me add one other point. Two years ago my wife, a VERY careful driver, far more careful than I if I'm honest about it, was driving our 2012 KIA Sorento a vehicle with excellent visibility for a midsize crossover. It was raining on a dark and stormy night as she was returning home on a four lane highway. She was in the left lane, looked over her right shoulder, put on her blinker and began to move to the "slow" lane. Before she could complete the maneuver she was sideswiped on the right by a driver in a new Mustang moving about 30 mph faster than she was traveling. Thankfully, damage was relatively minor but my wife was mortified. It was her first collision in many years. In fact, the other driver was supportive and even somewhat apologetic. Both vehicles were drive-able. The rain was heavy. The night was dark. And my wife and the other driver both went on their way and submitted insurance claims without assigning blame. It could have been much worse. The point is that BSM would probably have prevented the collision completely. Even though my wife didn't see the other car, the BSM system would have. When we replaced the 2012 KIA with another 2018 Sorento I was especially grateful that it includes BSM.

Enginewise it's the 2.0 Skyactive-G or the 2.0 Skyactiv-X (180HP) option only here. The 2.5 Isn't available in the Netherlands (or even europe probably). With you on so many points in this video! Mazda is renowned for their chassis and handling. This car makes a lot of sense as a hatch. AWD makes it capable, but it really needs two things. A turbo and a manual transmission. Plenty of people would cross shop for that. WRX buyers, STI and Evo owners who are getting older, Miata owners looking for a bigger car, lovers of the old MazdaSpeed3, and more. Seems like a fun car, needs a more fun version. Great review!

I could be wrong but I don't think Sport Mode does anything after you put transmission to manual setting. Sport Mode only changes one thing: the shift points when transmission is in automatic. Nice video, thanks.

Actually, sport mode affects throttle response as well as the shift points. So even in manual mode there's the one benefit.

Nice review, got rid of my 3, due to spinal problems, you banged your head, I was doing it getting in and out. With you on the set off, the auto in the 3 holds it back, got a VW dual clutch now, really gets going. The centre console, that's disappointing on new one, probably to do with drive train and other components in way. No space for a penguin in there, tight squeeze for a chick, think you'd be down to the egg score on that one.

Another great Video. You and your videos seriously make my day, week when I see them. It is a great looking hatch and I really like the color. I'm not sure why Mazda couldn't massage more HP and Torque from that motor even without a Turbo though. I had a 2011 Hyundai Sonata with a 2.4L Naturally aspirated engine that had 198 HP. With a 2.5L Turbo they should be able to match the numbers in the Honda Civic Type R.

Anyway... the review, the writing, the style, and the automotive knowledge and expertise, are up there with some of the best I've ever seen. In January of this year I purchased a leftover NEW 2018 Mazda 3 Touring 5 door with the 2.5 and the auto for an OTD price of $19K. Mazda changed the more sophisticated multi-link fully independent suspension to a torsion beam setup for 2019. They say its easier to achieve body motion control with this although it is cheaper and simpler.....Geez, I remember when the Mustang went from a rigid rear suspension to an independent one, everyone was waiting for this. Mazda styling is always ahead of the rest, and yes, it could use a turbo variation....I read somewhere that the 2.5 turbo could fit in here. BUT, the big news will be when the Skyactiv-X arrives here in the USA.

I have a Mazda3 AWD hatch. Even though it could do with more power, I blame emissions because the 2.5 Skyactiv is a gem of an engine at 13:1 CR on 87 octane, it's still a fun car to drive. A full catback exhaust and cold air intake can bump it to around 200hp from 186hp, according to Cork Sport dyno. VersaTuner has a tune to bring it up to 197WHP on 93oct if you can afford it at the pump. Exhaust seems very small and restrictive. Swap out the stock OE Toyo tires for some Pirelli P Zero AS UHP or some Conti DWS and it's a game changer. It's an affordable, practical, reliable driver's car.

Definitely should’ve gotten a manual car to drive hun.

I've had two Mazdas that were predecessors to the 3, an '89 323 and its successor, a '91 Protege. Both got significantly better mileage that advertised, low 30s around town and upper 30s on the highway. I don't understand why 30 years later the same cars are getting the same or worse mileage, and it's not just Mazda, Honda is that way too. The last Honda I had got way less MPGs than claimed no matter how much I babied it, sold it for a much more useful Ford Ranger that gets better mileage. With all the advancements in engine tech the MPGs are the same, it makes no sense. Regardless, thanks for the review. You are a hoot and a half and I look forward to all your videos.
