You could put some modeling clay on the radiator cap, and then close the engine cover. Then look at the compressed clay to see what clearance there is. Also, you could install some rubber flaps on the rear side of your alloy plate, where there are no fans. Ram air pressure will open them when diving fast. When going slow the fan suction will close the flaps. Happy New Year !

I love seeing your creative solutions to these problems. Last summer I installed a secondary puller fan in front of the radiator and AC condenser in my 2005 MINI Cooper to help the AC keep up with the Phoenix heat (I also installed a brand new compressor and condenser; it all works fine when the car is moving but struggles at idle because the system just wasn't designed for 120-degree heat). I may have been inspired by your videos... or maybe I was drunk... anyhow, it worked out as intended! 😂

When checking clearances like that between the radiator cap and hood try taking a piece of aluminum foil crumpled up some, place it on top of the radiator cap, SLOWLY close the hood, open the hood and you can see much the foil was crumpled up by the hood which lets you see how much clearance you have.

@3:06 I suggest using a 'nibbler' - they make it easy to form slots (drill each end and nibble in between). Also, so much less noisy than a dremel. Easy way to check blind clearances - tape a thickness or two of corrugated cardboard to the surface you don't want touched. It will cushion and show if contact is made. And if doctors knew what they were doing, they wouldn't need to Practice.
