I came home drunk at 15 or 16, not sure, and my Mom helped me to bed. I thought in the morning I was going to get hell, but she didn't say one word about it. I guess she figured that the hangover was probably bad enough. Some times parents know to let you go, and I don't smoke, may have a drink with friends, but very seldom and never do drugs. She was right in letting me do my thing, she knew it wasn't going to last, because she knew me. I totally respected her for that.

The first bit with “teens don’t think we didn’t do those things”, I agree, but rebuttal: a lot of the time, they sure don’t act like they did it! I mean, my folks have definitely drilled into my head not to do things, cause they tell me this: WHY not to do things. WHY not to get drunk and drive. Why not to smoke anything before 25, etcetera. We’re raised on logic, not having the fear of anyone put into us. Seriously, if you want someone to not do something, tell them why! Don’t just say not to, tell em why, and really why. That would make people not want to do it irresponsibly, at the minimum.

The "because I said so" never worked with me. And I dont expect it to work with my kid either. The point of parenthood is to prepare them for adulthood, not expect blind obedience. And giving a forthcoming reason teaches them to think about conseqences. "because you could die" is much better than "because I said so".

Here’s what I don’t get tho. I’m 16, and every kid younger and older always does the dumb crap their parents tell them not to do. No matter if the parents tell them why they shouldn’t do it, they do it anyway, and their stupid excuse is always “I’m just young and free” or “I’m just young and dumb”. Kids my age, or younger or older, always end up drunkards, having sex, surrounded by stupid people, all because they want to have fun. They end up ruining their lives in the end and blame practically everyone and everything but themselves. I’m sorry for the rant, but I don’t think blaming parents is the issue, I actually know many parents who are brutally honest with their kids. It’s just kids in my generation are retarded.

Smol Bean, then that’s not the parents’ fault. If they’re being dumb, and they were taught the possible consequences, it’s not because they’re young and dumb. Every generation has those people. I don’t think your generation is dumb (don’t use the r word, it’s fairly harsh and kinda offensive, my dude. Just a warning.), I think every generation has dumb people. It’s a people thing.

I’m not blaming the parents, I’m saying those kinds of parents could do better. If they want to use preventative measures to try and not have kids doing dangerous things, then tell them why. It’s not a sure fire way, but it is a way. If I just blamed the parents, it wouldn’t factor in other things, like how much information the kids have access to, their predetermined mindsets, where they live, etcetera. That’d be too simple.

Didn’t find out about it til I started dated a Filipino girl who’s aunt made some amazing dish that had other meats with peanut butter. It was actually really good.
