Apparently, Gareth Edwards didn't want to start working on the VFX until they had the final frames and footage that they were actually going to use in the movie, so in the end, it didn't have to cost like $300M for it to look this beautiful. He had a clear vision of what he wanted to make and didn't waste people's time. We really need more of these 😅

It bewilders me how it seems some directors and producers these days have forgotten about being this efficient with effects heavy films like this, some simply rely too much on the "fix it in post" mentality that causes so many film budgets to balloon these days, at least we still have filmmakers like Denis Villeneuve and Gareth Edwards who know how to do it

I'm definitely seeing this in the theater, even if just for the fact it's an original film that's not a sequel/prequel/reboot/remake of an existing franchise, this is the sort of films I want to support and see more of
@XER606
@XER606 10 ай бұрын
@vegaspcnerd Because it's inspired by other works? Like how Lord of the Rings at the time it was written drew heavily from a bunch of other sources like mythologies and other fantasy writings such as Beowulf? The movie has familiar elements, because all films, books, and art in general does, it comes with the territory because genuine originality isn't coming up with the idea no one else has, because that's not actually possible, it's the way the specific artist tells that story that can make it unique, hell even the original Star Wars simply drew VERY heavily from Flash Gordon, King Arthur and Kurosawa movies This one I call original cause is not an IP movie, is not based on a franchise, it's not a sequel capitalizing on the pre-build audience of a source material, regardless of how familiar it might be, this is a risky film to make these days because studios just want IPs, and for that is that I'm supporting this film
@cuongle7990
@cuongle7990 10 ай бұрын
@vegaspcnerd Not original because a lot of the movie is based on historical events. Replace what's called robots and A.I with communist, insurgents, slaves, or barbarians and you'd have all the wars that the U.S started after WWII, what was done to the Indians, and what was done to Africans combined. When you see villages in the movie being bombed to bits and executions of helpless robots just imagined people in their place and you'd have a historical documentary. The most unoriginal thing in this movie is the U.S Army because it is being itself.
@XER606
@XER606 6 ай бұрын
@@cuongle7990 Wow, imagine that, a movie being inspired by real world events? Never heard of such an uninspired concept before, clearly movies never did that before, hey what about Godzilla being inspired by nuclear bombs or Star Wars itself having inspiration in WW2 and the Vietnam War, yeah totally not something hundreds of movies did even at the dawn of cinema

The one and only thing that I think movies do need back are ORIGINAL BLOCKBUSTERS. We obviously get a lot of original movies every single year, but we don't usually get a lot of original blockbusters. Obviously movies like Avatar, Super Mario Bros (by technicality of a movie not the IP), Barbie, Top Gun Maverick and Oppenheimer are setting that wave forward again. I hope The Creator does well I really do!
@matthewk4912

All of those movies (other than Oppenheimer) are either sequels or already part of a massive established franchise though. But I get and agree with your point. We need more movies like The Creator!
@OrionInSpace
@OrionInSpace 11 ай бұрын
@@matthewk4912 I mean I get that, fair point but since Top Gun and Avatar only had one movie I still feel that's fresh but I get it. The Mario while yes is a part of a big IP, the actual movie itself is new and original. Same thing with Barbie.

John you are a magnificent genius, Im a huge fan, this was a FANTASTIC video, REALLY great interview, that was so interesting. Thank you! I know this might be totally left field here, but John, would you ever consider writing a screenplay and just making a film? I imagine you'd have access to some kind of budget and access to so much talent. Im sure this might have been something that's crossed your mind at some point, or maybe it's wedged in there, but if you did make a movie, I'd 100% watch it. Please seriously consider it - I mean, look at what rackaracka did, there's literally no reason you couldnt do something much better (p.s. my favourite genres are horror, sci-fi horror ;)

CLASSIC. not perfect, and some parts I didnt like. but I LOVE THE MOVIE. The same way I loved watching the Blade Runner. I think certain things will happen as projected. Humans could fall in love with AI partners. Humans can even be cloned into robots so the memory, feelings continue..... The MOVIE is huge, huge, huge. Some parts I really love, and the ending was really nice. I wish the whole family survived though.... but one we have this heaven thing, we know a few would have to die. In this movie. Robots aren’t bad, but actually nicer, kinder and more human than humans. Humans can really love robots. Some humans suck in the movie esp those warmongers. Some Americans were like well, Americans (wont say more). US Army, portrayed as the bad brutal badass. Go see the movie. I really think it’s worth a watch. I'm glad I watched it. Makes my day. Thanks to the producer Director even though it may look a box office flop. so what.

This movie just hit different when you're from SEA. I heard Thai, Vietnamese, and Cambodian spoken, among others. Substituting the A.I/Robots with communist/insurgent then you have all the wars that the U.S have started after WWII combined, like in Vietnam and Afghanistan. Replace the U.S army, bombing foreign villages to bits and executing helpless robots, with people and you've got yourself a historical documentary. The movie is actually a lot more likeable and understandable with a historical perspective. For those who are confused with it's message and plotlines then I'm sorry but your history teachers failed you. Personal bias aside, this movie is flawed like all others. It doesn't flow very well in the middle parts. Probably because many scenes are cut during editing. I hope there will be a 3 hours director's cut but with its viewership it's not likely.

You can't have any kind of an unbiased "review" when you are literally having the creator there to interview at the same time. Human beings are influenced easily by this kind of thing. It's like having a product "review" while the creators of the product are sitting right there with you. It's more likely to be more of a product showcase than any kind of trustworthy opinion/viewing of a film. I'm not getting at you specifically but i think it is VERY important to point out this kind of conflict ASAP.
@ReelRejects
@ReelRejects 11 ай бұрын
This is a fair point in principle, however the creator wasn’t literally there to interview at the same time in this case - I saw the film at a regular press screening; no fancy bells and whistles, no director in attendance, no free snacks. Heck, aside from the rep who coordinated the screening, I didn’t really know or speak with anyone there. The review was recorded in our standard fashion (sans me being alone this time) & then the interview was recorded, as its own process, days later (via Zoom). The screening you see for a review is often the same one you’re seeing for context when participating in a junket interview - as it was in this case. I don’t think I’d want to participate in a review I had to record in the presence of (or with input from) the director, creators, or whoever it might be (or one during which I’d have to sit with them the whole time) - that absolutely sounds ethically questionable / awkward, and aimed toward fluff/marketing rather than honest appraisal. These being cut together in the same video, in this case, was mainly due to the fact that both components were likely to perform at their best when bundled together rather than as two separate videos, so I shot a few alternate intros in anticipation of that. Otherwise, my focus was collecting my thoughts and speaking honestly about the movie - then thinking about the interview after. Didn’t really have one in mind whilst formulating the other, as each becomes its own project (especially when you’re doing all the technical stuff, yourself, at the same time). And in light of all that, I think it’s a pretty fair, tempered assessment of the film overall. But again - it’s all just kinda taking me at my word on this, I guess. I appreciate you being thoughtful about it. And I agree on principle. That’s just not what was happening in this case.
