While I was down for a couple of days sick with COVID, Joe was busy outside gettin' things done around the homestead. Prepping for winter-restocking firewood & finally clearing land for our greenhouse build! We're tackling the cedar siding on the exterior of our cabin addition & I'm making a super simple, healthy & natural laundry soap! Thanks for joining us for another video, cheers!

Hey everyone! Thanks for watching this week’s video. Several of you asked & I thought I mentioned it in the video but maybe I didn’t lol…for the homemade laundry soap, you’ll want to use 1/4-1/3 cup per load depending on your load size! Hope everyone has an awesome week!🫶🏻

I was wondering how much water you use to mix it up
@HomeFreeAlaska
@HomeFreeAlaska 6 ай бұрын
@@babewhowalks this recipe makes 1 gallon of laundry soap. So once you put your dry ingredients in, you’ll need enough hot water (about 1 gallon) to fill your 1 gallon container.😊

Hey Tina, I have to tell you, you have inspired me in SO many ways and I now want to move to Alaska! My hubby is also retired military (28 years in Army and La. National Guard). Thank you to you and Joe for your service. He's been retired for a couple of years now and we haven't decided still where we want to plant our roots. I love the cold and I HATE this hot, humid, sticky weather here in Louisiana. I binge watch your videos and the more I watch, the more I want to move there. We are going on an Alaskan cruise next week and I know it's just going to give me the wants even more! We will be stopping in Ketchikan on one of the days, so where is a good place to eat lunch? Keep up the good work! You're the best!!!

Just FYI: my son in law is extremely gluten intolerant. What was interesting is he and my daughter went to Greece. He could actually eat the bread there without feeling anything. Come to find out his intolerance is more to American grown grain where they use Round Up. I found Italian “00” flour locally and on Amazon for them and they now make their own bread and other baked goods with it. Just sharing. They don’t spray garbage on their grains in Europe.

Hello Tina, Joe and Parker, tractor work looks good Joe your new John Deer is a beauty and the operator is also pretty good. You have an endless amount of fire wood,nice. That’s nice Parker helping Dad with the wood splitter and now helping Mom with the milking, you’re a good little guy and always so thoughtful. That fresh milk looks delicious then what you make with it Tina!! Love the birds and the feeders, relaxing. Your raised bed gardens look fantastic. I wish the cedar siding would stay the colour it is when you first put it up but I guess you let it weather or seal or stain it. Joe is good at whatever he dose 👍👍. You have the perfect place to ride your bike there Mr Parker looks like fun. Making your own soap is good. I get the home made laundry soap from a place in BC Canada (TruEarth), it comes in sheets. Take care guys!! 👍👍❤️❤️🇨🇦

Hey Ron! Oh I sooooo agree with you on the stain color!!😝 It’s pretty but in my opinion it looks a too orange. Kind of bummed about it especially after I saw the natural color of the new siding…it is SO PRETTY! Ugh…what can ya do tho right? Def not restaining the whole cabin haha, so we’ll just roll with it!😊

My area of land wasn't used to garden or tilled before. I did the digging by a senior hand. lol I may not have gone deep enough. But I tried. 😊 I will use my plants that didn't bloom as veggies and bury them as a type of nutrition for next years garden. Carnivore reduced it down 95 %. I hope you can go back to eating what you would like. Or whatever is within reason for you. Thank you for putting yourselves out there. My grandfather lived to be 99 and he ate everything. He always said it is how much you eat and you must stay active. He would walk 2 miles to the pie shop have a slice of pie and cup of coffee Monday through Friday(weather permitting) then walk 2 miles back home. He did this from the time he was 80 until 6 months until he passed. So my point is you have to do what feels right for you.

I agree. My Nampa (Grandpa) just passed last year. He was 90 & ate whatever he wanted! But…we have to remember that the food they grew up eating most of their lives wasn’t the food we eat today. All of the GMO’s and toxins, chemicals, etc., wasn’t around until recent years. Our generation and our children will have it rough with health issues because of what they’re doing to our crops/food. It’s sad. People need to wake up & take control of their food sources.🫶🏻

The greenhouse spot is looking Aaaamazing! Great job Joe! 👏😃 You all have been working so hard on getting so many projects done, you should be very proud of how far your homestead has come over the last year! Can only imagine what the progress will look like in another year! 💕 I just got to say how much I freaking love that walk in pantry! The layout and all the organizational decor is just fabulous! 🌟 Austin and I were cracking up with the wood wasp situation. The first time I saw one about 4 years ago was when we were working on our chicken run and it landed on one of our boards...I screamed and nearly peed my pants! Those things are terrifying to look at! Even knowing that those things aren't stingers, doesn't make them look any less evil 🤣 ...no thank you lol!

Maybe in the future you could but a tiered garden bed on the slope next to your greenhouse build. You could put raised bed garden beds. Becky from Acre homestead did something like that and she gets a lot of food for her space.

Get it under Perma frost or as low as you can get it you also can put rain barrels in there and paint them black so when the south sun hits that and warms them up and at night, it’ll let off Radiant heat from the barrels I know it’s a little colder there, but I live in New Jersey and it’s really cold here in the winter time. We had that wet air and it chills you right to the bone use cinderblocks so the garden is under the frost. It’ll keep it warmer.

😂😂😂 Tina I feel you on the wood wasp! True story, a type of tree hornet got into our house and my husband went full on military on it as they can sting multiple times and it was going in for my husband and he broke my electric bug paddle. I laughed my butt off! I love you Girl and could listen to you for hours. Cyber hugs! 🤗🤗🤗🤗… 🦸‍♀️ super Tina 😘
