Such an underrated song. This should’ve been submitted for a grammy consideration. The piano is both Ryuchi Sakamoto’s and Yoongi’s instrument of choice, and how it’s weaved into the song truly elevates it. And then you add Woosung’s emotional delivery of his beautiful piece, chef’s kiss. This is in my top 3 of BTS’ solo releases.

Suga and Woosung have been friends for 4-5 years and Suga asked him to write and sing the hook for this song. I believe The Rose also sing about topics like this. After the "Everything will be okay" part, there's some lines that start with "Dream". This is taken from Suga's 2015 song "so far away" ft. Suran, another great one. I feel like when people have had difficulties in their lives, they respond in different ways. Some would see other people struggle and say, "Well I didn't have it easy either, you have to earn what you get." But others would say, "I don't want anyone else to struggle like I did. Let me help." Suga (and BTS as a whole) is clearly the latter. Members of TXT (BTS's junior group) have spoken about the guidance they receive from BTS members.

Disney has the story of how Suga spent time with Ryuichi Sakamoto and he helped write the piano music for this song.

Can I make a slight correction? Suga composed the song and asked if Mr Sakamoto would play the piano for the song. Suga told Mr Sakamoto he tried to composed it in the style of Mr Sakamoto who is such a inspiration to him. Suga told Mr Sakamoto that as a child, how watching the Last Emperor which Mr Sakamoto wrote and won an Oscar the musical score inspired Suga to make music.

D-Day was a great album but 'Snooze' is for sure my fave song on the album. It's so grand and beautiful. The lyrics hit hard. BTS has had a running theme about dreams from their debut until now and it's always great to see the dozens of ways they approach the topic and how their perspectives change about it over time. Woosung was a perfect choice for the vocals. There's so much drama and heart when he sings. Watching this makes me want to rewatch the Road to D-Day documentary. Ryuichi Sakamoto (may he rest) was a famous Japanese composer, piano player and actor. He's an icon in the field. You'll see him in the video where Yoongi is shaking his hand and bowing over and over. Yoongi looked up to him a lot so it meant a lot to him to get to meet him, spend time together and work on a song together even though Ryuichi was struggling with his health at the time. It was really touching to see them interact in the documentary. There was something gentle, warm and kind about Ryuichi in it. I've never seen him outside of it but he had the spirit of a patient mentor and supportive elder in the field.

The "Dream" chord sequence in Snooze was originally in the Agust D first mixtape in the song, So Far Away, featuring Suran. Suga proves he is a brilliant lyricist and producer. It is beyond beautiful. However, there is a re-recorded version featuring Jin and JK providing Suran's vocals. While both are beautiful, as an Army, I prefer the Jin and JK version!!!! Give it a listen.

Suga wrote this for the younger idols giving them direction and support. BTS had no one to help them when they were first starting out and Suga doesn't want them to feel as alone as they did. His heart is so pure. He really puts out truth and love and support to people. I just love him and his work.

I sincerely don’t consider BTS k pop. They are just a group of magnificent musicians and creators. I don’t like k pop at all to be honest. But BTS there on another level. And the rose are not k pop their a rock band. I believe the one singing with Suga was either born in the US or grew up there.

Yes, Woosung is an American. When I was reading about The Rose on wiki, the article mentions the other members completing their military service. No mention of Woosung enlisting, so I assume he doesn't hold a Korean citizenship.

Yoongi (Suga) has the ability to bring the absolute best out of people and picks great collaborations. He’s really such a strong writer and producer. Live on tour he was so emotional that he barely made it through the ending and the audience usually helps out at the end. In yeh final show he sobbed through the ending playing guitar. Sakamoto has been my favorite composer since I was a child seeing this collab as his last one fills fitting. And it introduced me to Woosung and The Rose such a great rock band.

Suga is such a great writer, composer, and producer. BTS has released 36 albums. I only found them about 16 months ago. Try as I might I have only scratched the surface. I fell in love with the RAP line first the meaningful, sometimes witty and playful lyrics had a substance that had been lacking in new work from the west recently. I also watched explanation videos as translations often do not do justice. As the meaning of a sentence can often be interpreted in multiple ways with just the use of one modifier. All of the interpretations being relevant. If I was younger and better at languages I would be learning Korean. As it is when you sing along to a song enough times you do learn snippets. It's beautiful and lends itself to the poetry, lyricism, and often stark honesty that BTS excels in.

I just found you through this... Thank you for your thoughtful reaction. To add a bit of Korean cultural context, it's expected in Korea that people who are senior in any profession will look out for their juniors, offering them advice and support, and the juniors will respect their experience and wisdom. It's really deeply ingrained in social interactions, both for professional experiences and age, to have that relationship. But idols have generally not been encouraged to share that sort of relationship with each other. Idols from different companies have been discouraged from getting to know each other in the past, and idols are kept too busy to build a lot of friendships. In addition, in the past, idols weren't necessarily seen as artists worthy of respect. And they were (and often still are) encouraged to compete with each other above all else. All of that has been changing, but there still hasn't been a ton of support for connections between seniors and juniors. But Suga sees that lack - they felt themselves when they had unprecedented success and no one to ask for advice - and has been building bridges. His talk show Suchwita has a lot of this - we get to see him with both seniors and juniors, and he talks about this need. So when he wrote Snooze as a letter directly to artists younger than him, he was doing something both extremely Korean - giving advice and reassurance from his place of experience - and quite defiant. You won't find a lot of other artists putting this message out so directly. That he created the song with two very different, very skilled musicians, as a heartfelt collaboration, only makes it better. I imagine plenty of idol trainees listen to this on hard days... I hope so anyway. That's who it's for.

This is probably my favorite song and collab that Yoongi (Suga/Agust D) did. I had never heard of The Rose group before but this guys voice is haunting and the lyrics make me tear up every time too. BTS members went through a Lot to get where they are now, so it is really admirable that Yoongi is willing to help other artists try to achieve their own dreams now. That said, he's now in the military for awhile and I hope he is doing OK himself. We, ARMY, need to be there for him and the rest of BTS when they return!

When BTS broke records and shot to the top of global stardom, they were the first Korean artist to do so. It was completely uncharted territory, and BTS has often talked about how scary that rise was, because they had no other artists to talk to for advice. They were literally paving a way for Korean artists in the West. Yoongi wrote this song for the younger Korean artists coming up behind them, so they can learn from him and not have to fear international success. Kpop trainees work insanely hard, sacrificing sleep and pushing their bodies to the limit. Yoongi is giving them permission to rest when they need to.

Ruichi Sakamoto is a Japanes composer who probably will be most famous of these three in 80 years in the future. Even as we lost him he is forever immortal. Documentary of Suga meeting him and telling him how he has influenced him.. And then like a dust in the wind, he was gone. from that trip to Japan we have tiny pearl where Suga mixes his solo song Seesaw and Ruichi Sakamoto's one of the most known (in West) movie scores : Yoongi's or Suga's "Piano Cover Sakamoto Ryuichi's Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence and Seesaw"

Since you really enjoyed this heartbreakingly beautiful hip-hop rap collaboration with Suga as Agust D, featuring Ryuichi Sakamoto (Oscar award winning composer/Suga mentor) and WooSung (The Rose), then here's a recommendation of a previous Agust D collaboration from his first Agust D mixtape. On one note, the "Dream" chords/sequence in Snooze (which shows the late Sakamoto working on the piano composition with Suga for Snooze) was originally in this recommended song - So Far Away (originally featuring Suran on the mixtape). However, So Far Away was re-recorded featuring Jin and JK in place of Suran's vocals. While both are beautiful, as an Army I lean toward the Jin and JK version. Jin and JK vocals are beyond brilliant. The color coded English subtitled video is worth listening and your reaction!

I really like this song, it is one of my favorites. I saw Suga's documentary on making the album, the piano is being played by one of Suga's idols,Ryuichi Sakamoto. You get to see the reference that he has for him. Sadly, he has passed away since then. Suga was so lucky to meet him. I am not big on rap, but BTS and Suga's raps hit different. It may be because their raps are usually very deep and mixing vocal with it had me listening to it more and it grew on me. I was a little afraid I won't enjoy the album, I was so wrong, I have ended up really loving it. Thanks for reating
