I think it's always a calming and pleasing sight and sound when the cattle gets fresh hay, similar to when a person puts cattle on a new or fresh ground of pasture. I liked the history you gave about how the dairies in your area worked, also the comparison of dairy cattle verses beef cattle. Thanks Pete, I enjoyed watching, I hope you have a beautiful day!

Love that you take the time to explain the different farming practices. Not everyone understands or knows. The transition of the farm before and after the snowfall was beautiful! Always enjoy your humor. Found the perfect truck for sale, a 1946 Chevy 3/4 ton pickup fully restored correctly. Absolutely beautiful. Wish I could buy it!!

Having watched the channel for a couple of years, it's very interesting to see how things have developed and are in continual development. Living in Japan I've found new videos come online around 10pm Japan time. So I get to watch before going to bed. Although I've heard before some explanations of why you do things, I'm sure many viewers haven't and will find it very interesting. Steaks look great, you have the cooking down to a fine art 😋

We fed around 800 head of cows but rarely fed hay. We would feed what we called cow cake. Its an alfalfa blend that's the size of a hotdog about 3 inches long. We would spread it out in the pasture. Winter and summer. They would just get a lot less during the summer. Lots of good memories.

I would love to see someone write a children's book about your farm and farming with all animal characters. These modern kids can learn about farming and our food chain with the connection to the land and the animals. I think my favorite character would either be Horton, Patty, or the group of nameless chickens in the chicken bus.

@dumpableaccountСағат бұрын
Good morning Pete. For bedding you might want to give wood chips a try, they’re structurally larger than just sawdust and you can often get truckloads for free or a nominal charge from local arborists. They save dump charges, you don’t need to pay for straw and the dump doesn’t fill up as fast. Seems like a win, win, win if the chips work for you.
@JustaFewAcresFarmСағат бұрын
Hi, we have a free source for wood chips. The problem, I think, is wood chips are green and wet, non-absorbent.
@joshuasherman9967Сағат бұрын
We used to use sawdst for a pack. It was better a little chippyer, but to get what you want, you would still want to mix hay in there. Ex, sawdast monday, hay thursday.

Fortified with excellent narration, camera cuts, humor and tempered with an experiential themed overview from a storytellers perspective. I think hay actually makes a better bedding than straw. The stalks of the straw are hollow and therefore break easily when used for bedding. Hay lasts much longer in my experience.

Locally a few cattlmen around here round bale corn fodder for feed especially if they are short on hay.AL B.

There... you just gave me more detail to your answer to my question last week about why not let the cows out to wander a field or two. Was this a coincidence? On the bedding material thing - I'm a bit west of you in the Genesee Valley. I'm seeing more and more farmers growing dry corn and saving the stalks in round bales. Never used to see that at all. Wonder if they're now recognizing the value of it for bedding in place of traditional straw.

Ok Ok Ok ~ That is it! I'm tellin ya. My very first Superheroes are Al and Gina, here in New Hampshire. 500 acres in our "North Country." Having run around all over this state supporting foster homes and special needs kids I know the area. You have no idea! And so there is Lumnah Acres. Off grid stuff, chickens, pigs, beef cattle and some sweet dogs. They even have their own line of coffee that they promote. Gina shows off some meals now and then. Daily posts. I think over 500k subscribers. Al is always building something or trying out something new. Gina gives the commentary. Just great. But I think. They have no idea. You and Hillary are so spot on with what you do. I have told them about your site point blank. I type: "Please go there." I will again do so today. Not gonna lie. ✨👍✨〰. By the way. I am raking leaves again today. I think I'm seeing double the amount of leaves this year. I don't get it. I do have my line up of snowblowers. None of them work (that well). You may know the 8hp Tecumseh engine and one that was a fbMP $50.00 purchase (this Sept) that I think was the victim of a gravel and salted driveway. Otherwise pristine. And so. Yea. Gonna make that farmers marked some day. Thank you so much for sharing all that you do! 〰✨🌿🌟🌿✨〰. New Hampshire.
