video request: how you can tell a flute matches you and things to look out for when purchasing a new flute
@rosemarycrafting12027 жыл бұрын
honestly you really just have to try the flute first. but in these reviews she talks about that a little bit. But it is such a broad topic its hard to say in a video for thousands and thousands of people

I would be curious to see what Emmanuel Pahud would say about these detailed air stream/ball of air in the mouth descriptions that JAF gives for all these flutes. I mean sometimes its egg shaped and then its tortoise shaped and its reflecting of 3 mm on a corner of your 4th tooth on the top. lol. Emmanuel simply says project the air up to a point between your eyes.

Please compare the Powell Conservatory to the Burkart Professional (as these flutes are very comparable (Lilian Burkart worked at Powell for many years)). Maybe a big comparison between Powell, Burkart, Brannen and Haynes? This would be fun!!!

I own the Q2 and tried it for 10 days against the Amadeus. I love the Q2 MUCH more
@PooMonkeyMan3 жыл бұрын
The two are on different levels. The Amadeus line is the step-up series for flute players looking for a better instrument than their starter flute. The Q series is the equivalent of a “conservatory” line, where the instrument is more handmade and mimics handmade quality at a more affordable price (i.e - the poor student). Personally, it’ll have to depend on your needs and where you are in terms of flute progress. If you’re the diehard major, perhaps the Q series would be better. If you’ve outgrown your beginner flute and you’re not looking to become a professional, then the Amadeus line might be better for you and your wallet.

Joanna, it finally happened. My 9 year old sister has started playing the flute. As a percussionist/brass/string (ok, doesn't really count because it's a uke but whatever) player I don't know how to feel about having a woodwind player in the family ;). I used what I remembered from you teaching your mom how to play to help her, which was pretty funny.
@rekaanna218 жыл бұрын
I have been playing the flute for quite a long time, but I don't really understand/feel what you're talking about with changing the way of air spinning in the mouth. Maybe because I was not taught in America, my awareness differs from yours. Do you have a video where you explain this in detail?

the flute chooses the flautist. very very true.I got the Q2 last year.I was 13 and i am COMPLETELY IN LOVE. my tone has improved greatly because of the different embouchure required. i spent 4 hours in the store. i tried 11 flutes, and spent the last 2 hours deliberating over a muramatsu, a miyazawa and a haynes Q2. i eventually realised i'd been in love with the haynes from the beginning and just liked the others because i'd heard they were great brands but really the haynes was the right fit for me and upon further research i realised that haynes is also a fantastic brand with amazing quality, i just hadn't heard of them yet.

I have a second hand Yamaha 511 (silver) which I have had for more than 20 years. Am now loking at getting a new flute and am trying the Haynes Q2. I am just not sure if I would be making a step up or down. If I should do a full service on my Yamaha or buy the Haynes. Any suggestions? 🤔😊

@vintagehaynesflute7 жыл бұрын
Michael Hung handmade flutes are usually made for professionals or semipro players and as such the manufacturer takes much more care with the build process. That's why it costs more than a machine made flute

@vintagehaynesflute5 жыл бұрын
MysticFlutist I think (think?) that Haynes uses coin silver not sterling. I have a 1936 Haynes that says sterling on every day part of the tube. My newer ones (1958-1980) don’t have anything like that on them. When I asked a Haynes rep at NFA once they told me that they stopped using sterling after the war and went to coin silver. Try just using silver when ordering not sterling silver

Hey i know this is a little pricier than your other reviews but can you review an aurumite 9k/14k? I live in a 5 minute walk from powell and im only 14 saving all of my money for a aurumite headjoint for my signature. Thanks
@rosemarycrafting12027 жыл бұрын
From what ive been able to tell, Aurumite is just for looks, since its just plating the silver(or nickel i forget which) in the Aurumite. It is still probably pretty good just based off of brand but i dont think its worth it.
@arikiirikki90057 жыл бұрын
From my knowledge, Aurumite is 2 layers of gold and silver fused together. There's a lot more gold in the tube than if it were plated. I know that 14k aurumite is the gold is on the inside, and 9k is gold is on the outside. I Assume gold on the inside affects the sound more. But i could be wrong

Hello Justanotherflutist, I have been a Jazz Saxophonist and Flutist(not flautist - shout out to Trevor Wye) for a while now. As a flutist I have begun to try and learn classical repitore to become a more versatile musician but, I am a bit overwhelmed. Your videos have helped me so much in other areas of my playing and I would really appreciated if you could make a video on how to approach increasing the amount of classical repitore you know. Sincerely, Kevin King II p.s thanks for the review ;)

I think there's a difference between silver-plated nickel and nickel silver. Nickel silver is an alloy (that doesn't have silver in it), at least according to this website: www.silverandbrassmusic.com/silver-plate-nickel-plate--gold-plate.html#:~:text=Silver%20plate%20is%20a%20finish,thin%20layer%20of%20pure%20silver.&text=Nickel%20plate%20is%20similar%2C%20but,silver%20or%20sterling%20silver%20horns.
