When I was growing up in the sixties and seventies the catalogs like Allied Radio, Lafayette, Olson, Burstein and Applebee, and Heathkit were like my "wish books". This is kind of like a visual tour of the kind of stuff in those catalogs. It still moves me in some hard to verbalize way.

Linn have made some very famous speakers. Kan, Sara and Isobarik being their most notorious, (both the Sara and Isobarik at 82dB efficient, were particularly difficult loads to drive, requiring amplifiers with huge power and current output). They also made some really luxurious lifestyle speakers from bookshelf size up to very big floor standers; expensive, too. their flagship pair were over £20K!

Back in the 70's in the middle of the Amp/Receiver wars it was a glorious time. In Syracuse Ny we had Gordons Music, Superior Sound and a Play it Again Sam store. One of the best pieces of advice I ever got was buy a set of Klipschorns, "Their forever Buddy", done. After that I was adding receivers, reels to reels and power amps at will, especially used stuff that my friends were giving away cheap for the next best thing. I just kept adding equipment to my storage room alongside my collection of old radio's everyone was throwing out. Still have all of it, a basement full. Just set my daughter up with a Sherwood 9910, a B&O Linear Drive turntable and a set of KEF 104's. Sometimes I just put on some music and sit and look at the logo's. Sunn, Crown, McIntosh, Ampeg, Kenwood, Sansui, flooded with memories and sound.

The first thing I ever bought there was a pair of Peerless woofers, mids and tweeters for a high school speaker project in 1979. That may have been the year they opened, but not sure. I am still using a pair of GAS Son of Ampzilla power amps that I got there years ago. Also a Project turntable and Blue Point Special cartridge that I got new. So they also sell some new stuff too and also do repairs. It's a cool store like visiting a hi fi museum.

You’ve never seen Linn speakers before?! They have made speakers for almost as long as the LP12 and through the mid 70s to mid 80s had a very close working relationship with Naim… both brands diversified from around 1986 and went their separate ways. Linn have made some proper cult classics and have been majorly invested in separate active crossovers for their speakers, and over the past decade or so have been making world class DSP crossovers which integrate with their digital streaming preamplifiers. I have four pairs of Linn speakers in the house including active Kabers, Keilidhs, Ninkas and Katans. Look them up, they’re pretty decent!

I really enjoyed the style in which you used to make videos. This new format with bed music and voice over doesn't carry the same level of "what will he find next" excitement. I think it was this that kept me watching in the past. It was difficult to turn away because you never knew what would come into frame next. You could hear the genuine excitement in your voice via inflection when you'd come across something special and unique. Voice over narration can't capture that. Just the opinion of one viewer out in KZbin land. Thanks for the work you do.
