In Part 2 I leave Charleville in Queensland heading for Camooweal which is the last town in Queensland before the Queensland Northern Territory Border. Some of what I considered to be the best scenery was between Cloncurry and Mount Isa where the hills were. Although there was some water around as I moved through Queensland, it wasn’t as wet as what it was along the Barkly after entering the Northern Territory as you will see later in Part 3.
Part 2 is the second installment of a 5 part series of videos that shows the detour I had to take in February 2022 to transport freight in a triple Road Train from Adelaide in South Australia to Darwin in the Northern Territory.
The Government had granted triple Road Trains supplementary access for 28 days to the Northern Territory via Burra in South Australia through New South Wales coming out at the bottom of Queensland. This was only ever a double Road Train route, triple Road Trains were not normally allowed on these roads.
I have taken my camera gear along with me on this seven and a half day road trip in a triple Road Train to film as much of the floods and journey that I thought might be of some interest to anyone. At the time of leaving Adelaide in South Australia, it was still raining along some of the roads that I would travel on causing road closures along the way. As I moved from State to State, I could only hope that these temporary road closures would not cause me to sit stationary waiting for areas to dry out so that I could continue.

Hi Mick, I live in Copenhagen Denmark and have been down under 5 time and love to follow your trips. I would like to see a video with a full acceleration from 0 - 100 km/h showing the speed and gear you are in and just listening to the motor accelerate and shifting gears. That video could get quite some attention.

Bloody nice job again Mick.Still can't get over this beautiful country of ours, even more so after the big wet.Gotta have a break from the hustle and bustle and get out there to breathe, sooner or later. But your it for now mate, much appreciated. Don't bash yourself up too much over getting it wrong mate. It's not like you go through these places on a regular basis.I understand the frustration because you just can't turn around most times. And those traffic light's...most car's don't pull up in those situations, let alone a road-train.Your doing a great job for us mate.Without you guys and gals out there delivering,we're screwed. Great initiative from the powers to be to open up the country to allow this to happen but in hignsight they could of at least organised towns that have heavy vehicle bypasses,to set up signs directing the increased volume of road train traffic through, during this period. Great to see your mate Mark pass by heading south too. That was pretty cool. Can't wait for the next instalment.Stay safe out there mate.Great work!👍🇦🇺

Thank you for those kind comments Faron, it certainly is a beautiful country we call home. Some NSW towns did have hand painted signs for the Darwin bound trucks on some corners which did help, should I have been off route and received a fine I was willing to cop that on the chin as I did the best I could with the knowledge I had on the day.It would have been part of the experience and something to talk about in years to come.

Greener than when I was up there. I found the detour through Cloncurry on the way to Townsville but I turned right instead of left on the way back and had to do a U turn in a paddock to get going the right way. I agree the bypasses need to better posted especially if you are not a regular. Also lots of cattle on the roadside between Isa and Cloncurry when I was there Christmas 2017.

G’day Mick. Nice to see you trying it from our end😄 I do Brisbane to Darwin 2up. The truckies atlas is a good place to start for bypass maps. Then just google road train maps for whatever state you’re in and you’ll find something there. Look for the specific state transport mob. Queensland has a satellite view now with all the routes marked. You just zoom in where you want.I also use google earth and look for all the rubber on the road from where the tri’s have been dragging around corners. Barcaldine is pronounced Bar-call-din. The toilets at the rest areas don’t just attract the flys either. Come tourist season it can get a bit full of caravans especially on weekends. Oh. And the way you hit the culverts at Ayreshire Hills. If you were 2 up I reckon whoever would have been in the bunk would have been peeling themselves off the ceiling of the bunk!😄I take them at about 75.

@@justcruisinwithmicksally837 Thanks for taking the time to reply mate. That was a hell of a detour. I used to do all that route and bypass finding stuff doing east coast work. They give you an address and it’s find your own way. I used to check for b-double routes, then google earth to check for site access or a place to bust up if I couldn’t get in with a double. I’ve just rolled it over to road trains. Same principles apply mate. Believe me. You can see in a heartbeat on a satellite pic if a corner has been used by heavy vehicles. Hope I see you up there one day mate.

Well now, that sure gave me some memories, yeh looks like there is a newer road in Winton that leads to the BP , in Cloncurry I remember turning right just over the Railway crossing to go on the bypass, Mt Isa was good to see, I lived there for 3.6 years escorting Oversize all over Australia so that was of great interest to me, then Camooweal , I was surprised to see the the servo as leaving the town is now PUMA, it was Shell for years , Sara Storer was a waitress there before she took up singing, and the bridge , I carted a load of form work and scaffold from Brisbane when construction began , Thanks Mick, looking forward to some more memories across the Barkley , Barkley Homestead and 3 Ways and then up the track.

Great video Mick. Aways a nice trip apart from about ten years ago when I blew a tyre 30 minutes outside of Kynuna and another 150km to go before Cloncurry but they didn't have the size. Was a bit concerned driving another distance to Mt Isa without a spare, but at least there was mobile cover the whole way and thankfully got another there. The 'wet' season, when its overcast is better than the build-up with sun beating down. Looking forward to your next episode. Cheers.

Followed along on google maps (virtual tourist), so looked for the Cloncurry Heavy Vehicles Bypass. Multiple street views available along the Andrew Daniels Drive turnoff. May 2008 shows 2 lane and no bypass. Dec 2014 showed the Andrew Daniels Bypass road construction. November 2018 and October 2022 show the wye at the bypass and green sign on the left. Yes, appears easy to miss the Cloncurry bypass road immediately east of town. Google doesn't provide an updated street view on Andrew Daniels Drive. Businesses seen on google aerial along the north end are not seen on 2008 street views.

What you saw with the Qantas aircraft was actually the Qantas Founder's Museum - a big museum dedicated to Qantas from their early days to today! The aircraft you saw there was a Boeing 747-400 - I happen to have a collection of keyrings/luggage tags made from the skins of two ex-Qantas 747-400's, one from OJN ("City of Dubbo") and three from OJP ("City of Albury")
